Serious Question for SHOUTcasters
This has been something on my mind for a while but I'm not even sure that if I had enough positive feedback that I would even do it or have the patience to do the research for it but I'm going to ask to see if it causes me additional motivation.
If I made my own SHOUTcast DSP for Winamp, would anybody use it? It wouldn't have AAC support (for licensing reasons) but it might have Opus Codec support. It would have MP3 support. It would have live mixing support if possible with soundcard selectabililty. It would be skinned. It would have a better resampler. It wouldn't have SSL support. I would also like to know if there are any features I'm not thinking of that you all would want |

This is currently in the works. I'm streaming with it right now (privately.) It has bugs and is incomplete but if anybody wants to try it out privately hit me up in a PM. It doesn't crash after 3 days of continuous use like the official SHOUTcast DSP does (MSVCR90.dll crashes) which is the real reason why I'm working on this, got tired of it. Interestingly my experience with making this is a bit reversed on my expectations on what would be the most difficult aspects to code.

I wish I saw this much earlier, but yes. I use the DSP which is great... until it crashes. Which is all too often. IF sometjhing is still available, or in the works, I am definitely interested.

I have not forgotten about this project, it's just on hold while I focus my efforts on a custom automation project for well-filled tank on a business associated property.
At the moment, the only thing keeping me from publishing a work-in-progress version is thinking of a snazzy name for it that hasn't already been taken, extremely frustrating. |

Just an update.
I'm still stuck on creating a new name. I thought of so many while I was in the shower but they're already all taken. ![]() I did get LEGAL AAC codec support working but it's only AAC LC (no Main or HE+) and only for Windows 7 or later. I contacted the Fraunhofer IIS for direction and to tell me how much it would cost to license AAC, they wouldn't even give me a price, they just told me to use the built-in AAC provider from the OS. It only supports bitrates 96k - 192k. As of I right now I exclusively source my streams using this project. I don't know when I will be able to publish a public WIP. |

I don't know yet what a DSP is. I haven't used that part of wAmp. Can you briefly explain about that, and SHOUTcast? Or where can I read a 101 on such things? (I like to learn more about what seems to be 90% that I've not seen yet, of a program I've been using since 1997.)
But. My main question should be... have you thought of a fitting name yet!? ![]() |

Ladies and Gentlemen we have a contender. A bit long but maybe I can work it shorter.
Trying to remember a quote by George Carlin about simple solutions being hard to find. |

I just realized I've been working on this plugin off-and-on for almost a year now.
[EDIT /] I just had another look at the Date/Time stamp on my project files, so actually a little over a year. |
