Got an entire BOX full of books to read from my friend (so many, there was overflow, which went into an Olive Garden bag), plus 6 new books from Books-a-Million bargain bin section (buy two get one free as well). I'll make a complete list of the stuff I got at work tonight.

Also, on book

Wake up. Check e-mail/news/weather/couple other sites for half an hour or so. Go to work (and read) for about 8 hours. Get home, browse the net/watch TV/play video games for a bit. Go to bed.

Rinse, repeat.

I need to start reading again...I have a copy of Stephen King's "Christine" that I started years ago, but never got around to finishing, and I just recently bought a copy of George Orwell's "1984" and haven't started it yet...

But before all that, I really want to get a copy of Daniel Keyes' "Flowers for Algernon"...It's been on my "want to read" list for years now; Found it at the local Boarder's, just need to buy it...

"I just want to lie in my own crusty filth, eating rancid egg sandwiches, until some unfortunate paramedic has to blow down my door to find my bloated and pasty corpse wedged between the nightstand and mattress stained with Bengay and Robitussin DM." - Greg Gutfeld on sex and seniors

Haven't read much in the last few days, but here's my current update:

007 Why We Suck by Denis Leary
008 Under The Dome by Stephen king
009 Atlantis, Book 01: Opening Atlantis by Harry Turtledove
010 Atlantis, Book 02: The United States of Atlantis by Harry Turtledove

"Dome" was my first King book, and I quite liked it. Eventually, I need to read "IT", as it's my favorite King movie. The Dome tie-in to IT is interesting, and I hope he does more books that deal with Pennywise and whatever alien race (s?)he is.
Spoiler: Personally, I think the aliens in Dome are of the same race that Pennywise is. But who knows but King.

Leary's book would've been better as an audio book.

I read a lot, but most of the books I read are 1000 page technical ones, so my 'book count' doesn't go up very fast.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

if you like sci-fi you should see about adding these to your list:

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/01/15/cr...om-the-novels/

they're based off of doom, but surprisingly really good, PC gamer agrees with me too

That's impressive. I used to read a lot, but I spend so much time on the computer that I've really lost the desire. My goal has been to read one book a month. Did well this fall but have not been reading this month at all.

Maybe. I already want to get His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, the Ember series by Jeanne DuPrau, and the Inspector Ian Rutledge series by Caroline and Charles Todd. Having only $40 in the bank isn't helping.

The only video game books I've enjoyed are the Halo related novels. Probably because it's about the only video game series I like.

yeah understandable for sure, for video game books they're a pleasant surprise though, don't feel forced or tacked on like a lot of them do.

oh and don't read too much of that PC gamer article if you want to read them, he spoils quite a bit.

016 Nightside, Book 04: Hex and the City by Simon R. Green

I missed adding a book to the list, so I added it above in underline and corrected the count. Here are more I've read:

019 The Kane Chronicles, Book 01: The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan
020 Nightside, Book 05: Paths Not Taken by Simon R. Green
021 Nightside, Book 06: Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth by Simon R. Green
022 Nightside, Book 07: Hell To Pay by Simon R. Green

And is it just me, or does the new text editing area suck?

I don't trust anything wysiwyg like to format my stuff correctly.
I've got mine set as the basic editor in the options. (Here - at the bottom; three to choose from)

The color selection didn't used to be a drop-down box, it showed a swatch of colors and once you chose one, all you had to do was click it again to apply the color. Now you have to select the color from a drop-down box each time you want to apply a color.

Possibly. Would've been further ahead than what I am now if not for spending more than a week in my vehicle at work at one point. Sitting at work in the vehicle is extra boring. Being bored makes me tired. Can't read when I'm tired.

Wheeee:

036 Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
037 1984 by George Orwell
038 City Of Ember, Book 01: The City Of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
039 City Of Ember, Book 02: The People Of Sparks by Jeanne DuPrau

Hated the writing style of F 451, but I liked the story... except the blue-balls ending. You're still alive Bradbury, sequel this shit goddammit. Otherwise, I nominate Orson Scott Card to do a sequel.

1984 was great... and scary.

City of Ember... Plowed through the whole of the first book and more than half of the 2nd book at work last night. Loving this series.

Of all the books you have listed on this thread, I finally found 2 that I've read! (Fahrenheit 451 and 1984)

edit - Well, I did read the hitchiker's guide and zombie guide, but those are kinda given

042 Agent Pendergast, book 01: Relic by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child
043 Agent Pendergast, book 02: Reliquary by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

Ember series was great. The movie would've been much better if it left out the giant mole and giant moth. They didn't exist in the books. Book 3 was a prequel to books 1, 2, and 4. I'm hoping DuPrau does a sequel or three to book 3.

Agent Pendergast is an amazing character, as usual. I'm tempted to watch the movie version of Relic, but it doesn't include Agent Pendergast.

I did not know "Percy Jackson and the olympians..." were also books. Did the book series come out before the movie ?

What are the books quality as regard to the movie ?

As for Isaac Asimov, I have to disagree with Too-DAMN-Much. I have enjoyed every minute of the long hours of reading the "Foundation" series, for example. Just my personal taste.

As for sci-fi, I would like to suggest some of the works from Robert Silverberg, who teamed up sometimes with Asimov. One 100% Silverberg book I have enjoyed is "Lord Valentine's Castle"

Yes, the books came out before the movie, and the first book is quite a bit better than the movie. A lot of important stuff is left out of the movie. A very important character is left out who is essential in the later books.

They're young adult novels, so don't expect them to be "deep". But they're still good.

Reminds me of "The far pavilions" by Margaret Kaye. A huge and awesome novel, that takes place in India.

Not surprisingly, the movie that came afterwards was good, but not as good as the book itself.

And some more
