Most MP4 videos play fine; a few don't

Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop
Intel Core Duo T2300 CPU @ 1.66 GHz
2GB DDR2 PC-5300 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 video card
Windows XP Professional SP3 up to date
DirectX version 9.0c
Winamp 5.581 Full Install

Attached zip file includes:
HijackThis.txt
my_plugin_list.txt
DxDiag.txt
MediaInfo Report on sample problem MP4 video file
PNG pic of distorted video in Winamp
PNG pic of same video undistorted in DivX Player

I've been watching MP4 videos in Winamp for years with no problems. Recently I used Handbrake to convert some short videos from FLV to MP4 because Winamp allows more flexibility when viewing MP4 videos.

These converted videos (I changed the file extension to MP4 from M4V) look like old analog TV with the horizontal sync out of adjustment when I play them in Winamp. These same MP4 videos play fine in DivX Player.

Any ideas why? TNX.

Things are getting worse. I now have an AVI video file I converted from a FLV video file and it also has the same distortion in Winamp while it looks fine in DivX Player. I used WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe, not Handbrake, to convert the FLV to AVI. All my other AVI videos play fine. What does the DivX program get right that my FFDShow settings or Winamp get wrong?

The MP4 video which Winamp or FFDShow screws up not only plays fine in DivX Player, it also plays fine in Windows Media Player and Quicktime Alternative.

Hi

What DirectShow splitter & filters/decoders does Winamp say it's using via "View File Info (Alt+3)" when you play one of the problem AVI and MP4 videos?

Splitter & Decoder Info

I use the Gabest MP4 splitter. Using Alt-3 when an MP4 video is playing is pretty uninformative; the window just says "ffdshow Audio Decoder" and "ffdshow Video Decoder".

I'm attaching a zip file with PNG screen captures of:

View File Info for a bad MP4 video
View File Info for a good MP4 video
FFDShow Video Decoder Configuration
Gabest MP4 Splitter.ax file Properties
Nullsoft Directshow Decoder Configuration
Nullsoft MP4 Demuxer Configuration

Practically all of the MP4 videos I watch play with no problems and I download and watch MP4 videos every day.

Hope the included/attached info helps & TNX.

Here's bad AVI file info

Attached are two screen shots of what I get when I ask for "View File Info" when a problem AVI file is playing, plus the MediaInfo report on that AVI file.

This AVI file plays correctly in Windows Media Player 11, DivX Plus Player 8 and Media Player Classic (QuickTime Alternative) 6.4.9.1. So what's wrong with Winamp or my ffdshow settings?

Guess I'll never know 'cause this post will never be answered.

As for me, the common trouble about M4V video is how to convert M4V video to MP4 format. We know all iTunes videos are in M4V which DRM protected, making it impossible to be played on non-Apple devices. If you want to enjoy all these videos on Android phone, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, etc. You can use DRM removal program-DRM removal for Mac to crack iTunes DRM protection and convert videos from M4V to MP4 at 30x faster speed with zero loss quality. After conversion, it will be much convenient for you to enjoy all these videos on any devices freely. Maybe you can catch more info on here. Hope this tip is useful to you.
