Nothing new. Although I use MusicBee strictly for syncing my usb/ipod, I figure I will keep Winamp as my music player until it ceases to work.

I can't believe there's still no news on this supposed 5.8 release

Anyone else think Radionomy are beginning to take the piss out everyone?

By the time they get round to a release everyone else will have given up on an update and possibly moved onto other software

Radionomy probably has no resources to devote to winamp, but they should make the effort to simply get whatever is done out now, bc winamp could really raise their visibility on their offerings.

What's done would mainly be useful as a starting point for further development. But without developers...

Again, 5.8 was supposed to be a clean version without anything radionomy doesn't have the rights for (which isn't always that easy to determine, hence the legal department's unwillingness to allow its release (plus usually the developers would be the ones to argue against legal's fears, but see above)).

The download link on http://www.winamp.com points to this thread. Is Radionomy run by 12 year olds?

hm, just realized it's been almost 7 months since an official update (or lack there of, really) from DJ Egg on the new winamp. What a shame. That mixed with the growing number of bots on this page posting pointless, spam and off-topic items. It's kinda sad.

but hey, the website says "There's more coming soon"

Damn. Well I'm using the 5.666 version in Linux Mint 18.3 with Wine 3.0 and works very good with classic skins, with bugs on modern ones; but it works fine. I think with improvements in the Wine platform the modern interface will work better, I noted more usability in this last version. The Milkdrop visualizations don't work but the Advanced Visualizations Studio do and some OpenGL plug-ins. I really like the program with it simple interface and personalization, there is no other one like this except for AIMP. I visited the Radionomy page some minutes ago and it has the new Winamp logo in blue. What they are planning to do? I think they could unify Winamp and Radionomy, instead of Shoutcast.

Someone is pulling your leg mate! & Its probably a hacker trying to spread malware.

Just be careful when executing random .exe files you found on the internet it could lead to your computer being compromised or worse still Ransomware.

When there is a new 5.7 version I'm sure the official sources on here will give us the real download links via here!

GaryBaldy - There was a legitimate 5.7 beta that was released which included the cloud features, but was scrapped after AOL's mention of closing Winamp. 5.8 Beta is the 'true' next version

I downloaded it here: https://winaero.com/download.php?view.867
I don't think a virus could affect me, I'm on Linux with a closed platform (Wine) to run .exes.
And probably Radionomy will integrate by some way Winamp to what they are doing, I don't have any idea but they paid some millions and they will use what they bought. Where's DJ Egg?

They paid for shoutcast and winamp just came with it. They are an i-radio company and couldn't care less for winamp it seems. In terms of DJ Egg, I see him pop on the forums every now and then though mostly helping out in the shoutcast forums since that's all he can really do. He can't give us anymore information on the status of winamp because there really isn't any new update except for radionomy not giving a f about it.

So I've gone and downloaded that 5.7 beta from the Winareo site to test it on Windows 10 it installed and then came up with some message when I try to run it.

Quote:
This beta version of Winamp is over 4 weeks old, Please update the latest version of Winamp
(Still none the wiser)

So the 5.7 beta is DEFUNCT! You'll have to stick with 5.6.66 like most of us are doing.

Just install the 5.7 beta again, and replace the winamp.exe with this one: https://morten.with.de/filedropper/files/winamp.exe

Then you can use it just like any other winamp version.

But there's no point in using it unless you're just curious because version 5.7 beta is older than 5.666

Re the 5.7 beta Even DrO advises against using it in one of his tweets

Its not worth the hassle just stick to the 5.6 release.

Because Radionomy fired all developers (again because they couldn't care less about winamp). Though DrO is working on a expansion pack for Winamp (getwacup.com)

Personally I smell a mismanaged project with no clear vision, other than to compete with Spotify and iTunes, but with a bonus broadcasting ability.

This new ownership reminds me of when Gateway bought Amiga, hoping that it would allow them to compete in a new market with the big boys.

Radionomy have bought the brand Winamp, fired the Winamp devs and are totally remaking Winamp from the ground up.
Whatever they release is something that does not require or deserve the name Winamp, as it could have been made without buying and destroying what is left of the good Winamp name.
They should have just made a front end for VLC and saved their money.

The big advantage of Winamp is the modular design and plugins to provide almost any missing format or feature.
When the new Winamp is released it will not have any of this backup. All addons will have to be remade for the new APIs.

Trillian messenger has the same fate. Once rich with addons and skins, but now abandoned by all the community developers who did not feel like rewriting all their plugins.
The product is there, but no community and no 3rd party devs.

Mashups ? Smells like a lot of "Fishy Business" to me.
Visit my label at www.last.fm/label/Fishy+Business for musical education.

You know, at this point (and by this point I mean years ago now), they should just release Winamp as open-source. Then at least dedicated fans could have a good crack at it, and we'd have something. I mean good god, that "THERE'S MORE COMING SOON" has been up how many years now?

Maybe take some time and actually RTFT? Open Source isn't a save all answer, plus there's already a project started to update it supported by a community. We don't need constant posts of people whining about the same thing, it gets redundant and doesn't add to the conversation. Why don't you try reaching out to radiononmy... you know, something actually more productive

You have NO chance of that happening you can say it til you're blue in the face Radionomy just simply don't care for Winamp and won't release the code anytime soon either.
