Ok. I should have expressed better. I meant the known problem that the demuxer handed EVERY MP4 file to the Dolby (plain AAC) decoder, regardless of the content of the file (AACplus or plain AAC).

I couldn't find any MP4 stream with AACplus content to test this out. Maybe someone else can help out.

Prefs > Media Library > Library Options tab > Modify Settings button:
Uncheck: Main window lightning bolt opens media library instead of About box.

@amano
afaik . . . still the same answer as in my last reply :/
Though for now, the only way we'll find out is if someone provides a link to an .mp4/.m4a container file with aacPlus content. Personally, I don't use it, and probably never will :/

Not sure if I understood you, but try this:

Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Plug-ins:
Uncheck "auto execute vis plugin on playback".

Well done, good bugfix release, but it is not a big deal to ad the missing MilkDrop files to the installer, isn't it?

Again, I hope, there will be a Winamp 5.07 with all missing Milkdrop files included.

Tnx for the links

BTW, see http://secunia.com/advisories/13269/

"2004-11-24: Changed "Solution" and "Solution Status". According to the discoverer, the vulnerability has contrary to vendor statements not been fixed in version 5.06."

The in_cdda issue doesn't seem to be fixed or completely fixed A testcase isn't attached.

Bad press again: The german tech site http://winfuture.de/ says in the news of the day that "The media player Winamp is still vulnerable".

Does anyone else hear bad sound quality in 5.06? I just upgrqaded and it sounds like FM interference in the background. I thought it was the stream I was listening to, but it's present in my MP3s that played fine in 5.05. I'm actually listening to WMP right now because it was annoying me. I'm on XP SP2 with plenty of resources available.
Can 5.05 still be downloaded? I didn;t see whare it was and I (stupidly) deleted my 5.05 installer when I grabbed .06.

See Winamp Heaven http://www.winampheaven.net/ for old versions.

Please install Winamp 5.06 and just copy the Winamp 5.05 in_mp3.dll over to let us track down the problem. And please tell us the system specs. Which Windows? Which output plugin?

Thanks!
It seems the 5.05 in_mp3.dll did the trick. I'm on a Dell Inspiron 600m, XP Pro SP2, 1 GB RAM, 2 GHz P4m, and the (built-in) sound card is a SigmaTel C-Major.

The only plugins I have beyond the stock ones that come installed already are in_flac.dll v1.1.1, and in_shn.dll v2.02.

Hope that helps narrow down the problem!

Okay. Now I'm a little suspicious and wondering if the in_mp3.dll in 5.06 is borked in other ways.

Could you do me a favor and try the new in_mp3.dll that was recompiled by David Biderman just 4 days ago on 11-20-2004? Even though it fixed a very serious Win95 issue, it might also work in your case. Then again it may be unrelated. Won't know though unless you try it and report back.

Anyway, please give it a go and let me know. Look for and download the "v5.06-recompiled_in_mp3.zip" that is linked to earlier in this thread in this post (look for UPDATE (11-20-2004) section).

Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads.

5.06a should be coming soon with those 2 fixes applied
(in_mp3 issue & ie proxy issue).

The in_cdda buffer overflow vulnerability issue is known and will also be fixed (but maybe not in time for 5.06a).

Koopatrooper: installer issues have been pointed out as well, will have to see how much pestering can be done to get it all sorted (and we may even have a 5.06 that reports itself as 5.06 - IPC_GETVERSION returns 0x5005 currently)

yes. things on the list are (in no particular order):

1) in_cdda.dll exploit fix
2) win95 bug fixes for in_nsv.dll and in_mp3.dll
3) missing milkdrop files
4) missing read_file.dll for in_mod.dll
5) IPC_GETVERSION fix

probably some other things i dont remember.

some or all of these may appear in a 5.06a rather than a 5.07, I recommended that it would be better to hop to 5.07, but who knows. 5.07 would mean more people get the exploit fix.

CraigF, see the links above. And according to ampewin and Koopatrooper these files are missing:

milk_img.ini
milk_msg.ini
milkdrop_preset_authoring.html
milkdrop_config.ini
milkdrop0.jpg
milkdrop1.jpg
milkdrop2.jpg
milkdrop3.jpg
milkdrop4.jpg
milkdrop5.jpg
milkdrop6.jpg
milkdrop7.jpg
milkdrop8.jpg
milkdrop9.jpg

I would send Rovastar an e-mail: He should know best, what would have to be done. At least on my computer I can confirm that these files didn't get installed. The .jpg files seem to be needed for some presets to be displayed as intended.

The other files seem to cause problems for certain people when missing.

that's going to be a tricky one to do. i know rovastar mentioned about missing files a while back and when i started playing with milkdrop a while back i found some alternative versions of at least the .jpg files for altering the textures or something like that :/ (don't mind me, mad man is typing)

Yes, this is the complete list of the missing files in Winamp's installer. The milkdrop 1.04 installer (aviable from rovastar's website) includes all of these files.

Take a look at the links above. I talked about this issue with Rovastar, he is able to confirm, that these files are missing.

E.g. you can read in one of the threads in the milkdrop forum, wich problems occur, if the milk_msg.ini is missing.

I've posted a workaround in the milkdrop forum, but this workaround sucks and is no more, than a temporary solution.

These files must be part of Winamp's installer.

HMM. If one of these missing files causes a problem (see koopa's link above), I don't see any reason NOT to include them. At least the .ini files should be added since they wouldn't increase the installer size significantly. (And if you read the links above Rovastar confirmed that these files were missing).

Just 2 cents, though.

Craig's in the process of contacting David right now about it, linking back to Koopatrooper's post above. Perhaps in a few hours David will acknowledge one way or another, but as DrO said above, his last word on it was a negatory. We will see.
