First person to tell me who made this quote gets a cookie:

Quote:
it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. ... Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

I prefer this description:
Love Me, I'm A Liberal
by Phil Ochs

I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I'd lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every colored boy becomes a star
But don't talk about revolution
That's going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I'm glad the commies were thrown out
of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
as long as they don't move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can't understand how their minds work
What's the matter don't they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I read New republic and Nation
I've learned to take every view
You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I'm almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There's no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I vote for the democratic party
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I'll send all the money you ask for
But don't ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I've grown older and wiser
And that's why I'm turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

~~as the snow flies
at a used car lot on the edge of town
a liberal guy and a liberal gal
buy a yugo

and they drive with pride

cause if there's one thing this world needs
it's environmental friends who'll take the lead
in a yugo

they say, people dont you understand
those suburbans are ruining the land
but they'll wish they had a full size van one day
they point fingers at you and me
they say we're too blind to see
but do we simply use our heads
and choose another way?

as those small wheels turn
fifty miles to the gallon
and their knees on their chest
they're gonna save enough gas
for all of the rest
in a yugo

then one day on the interstate
they suddenly lose control
they swerve to miss a baby duck
they're squashed beneath a produce truck

but they drove with pride...

and as the crowds drive past little flat car
you know they saved a lot of gas
but they didnt get far
in a yugo

and as they're trapped inside
at a used car lot on the other side of town
a liberal guy and a liberal gal
buy a yugo....

and they drive with pride...~~

Did you hear about the energy tax hike targeting only the northwest?

Alex Jones: Do you want the puppet on the right or the puppet on the left? What a bunch of garbage; liberal democrat, conservative, republican. It's all there to control you! Two sides of the same coin. Two management teams bidding for control, the CEO job of Slavery, Incorporated! The truth is out there in front of you, but they lay out this buffet of lies. I'm sick of it, and I'm not going to take a bite out of it, do you got me?

Hmm, let's see: Who are the people who don't want to pay taxes and want to slash social security?

Of course if you mean looking out as in making sure the other conforms to your norms then you may be right.

Hell yes I did! Bunch of rubish. I'd rather that Washington state pay back the money (adjusted) granted by the federal government to build the project than alter the way we get our power. A major part of our industrial allure relies on our cheap electricity. Aluminum, and Boeign for example.

HAHAHAHA, sorry but I highly doubt that if by some miracle all taxes were abolished the liberals would continue to pay them anyway because they want to pay taxes.

I just found that funny.

Anyway, claiming that it's only the republicans who are causing the division in the US is ridiculous, it's the fault of many people on both sides of the line.

People are assholes across the board doesn't matter what governing philosophy they subscribe to.

^Technically wrong. There were no income taxes in the US before 1913 and it seemed the government got along just fine for over 100 years and several major wars.

Sales Tax.

For some reason slapping X% on prices seems much more acceptable to some people than paying the same amount of money as income tax.

Actually Wyo has something called a mineral tax. Coal and Trona as well as a few other smaller minerals come out of the state and are taxed. Trona makes baking soda and all similar products fyi. Most of the states income comes from that and sales tax.

but in european countries there's sales tax and income tax. I suppose it is rather depressing to know that X% of what you'll earn you'll not get, but it's a good way of controlling it.

I resent that phrase "liberal pussies".

Liberals protest more than conservatives, and stand up for our personal rights. Liberals (with more balls than I'll ever have) chain themselves to trees to prevent them from being cut down, while at the same time being charged at with huge logging trucks and double-barrel rifles pointed at their heads. And you call these people pussies?

You're just another ignorant facist.

Phily Baby: That quote you posted said "communist dicatorship", which is an oxymoron. Communism isn't a government, it is the lack of government. Socialist Dictatorship would be the correct term.

Fuck you conservatives. Fuck you and your facist bullshit.

Stand up for personal rights?

I think as a citizen, I should deside if Social Security should be reformed, not them...

National security? Ohh, let's not get into that...That's so 2003/2004, I think I know better by letting that debate go...

But you have to remember, the gov't especially GWB likes to make all the decisions for us, including sending us to a war (and reinstating the draft) that really didn't need to happen, but thats a topic for another thread.

I'd like to see you do it without pissing in your pants.

And yes, tree hugging is a good thing. Cutting down tree's is useless and wastefull. There are cheaper, easier, and more enviroment friendly ways of making paper. If you are smart, you'd know what that is. If you don't, then your a fucking moron and I hope you die.

actually in a lot of cases, recycling paper causes more pollution than using fresh trees, they have to use a lot of chemicals to remove the ink and other stuff from the used paper and where do you think that crap goes after?

there are some good uses for recycled paper that don't require bleaching, like making paper towels, but for making any decent quality paper you're probably doing more damage to the environment by recycling/bleaching paper than you are by cutting down trees.

And trees aren't the only source of o2 on the planet, there are actually microorganisms that give it off too, not just trees and plants.

Slashing rainforests is stupid still, I see no need. But, it isn't going to starve the world of oxygen and plus, like natural fire in a forest, it some times needs to happen.

The number of rainforests per square mile has actually nearly doubled since the 1960's...

I wish I could find a link or something...ABC did a cover on this over a year ago...
