However, I think the skin list within the program is confusing.

IMO I think they should be seperated into two lists as at the moment it is hard to tell which skins are freeform (modern) or classic from looking at the skins list.
Real good idea. I was thinking the same thing.

This is an awesome release. I've been waiting for this for a long time now, and i'm very pleased with the result.

Some issues (Probably already known, but hey):
Using the default modern skin, i like to have it in the winshade mode, strethched along the bottom of the screen, but if i want to make it normal view(maximised)i want it to be normal size, and on the screen. At the moment, it keeps the width that it was in winshade mode, and maximises down off the bottom of the screen.

Ok, i have more, but i gotta go now...

Yeah, got that one. That little pane is actually an IE instance itself, and so it obviously opens all new instances in IE. I think it's fairly easy to replace it with Mozilla, but if you use Opera or something, I don't think it's possible.

I'll look into it.

With any song, on the strethced normal skin bar along the top, the first letter of the artist is always faded, is that intentional or has that been pointed out before?

To see what I mean, see attachment.

Oh yeah, that thing.

Prefs -> Library -> Library options:
Display Info Viewer in media & album views

I unchecked that in one of the earlier alpha versions, doh!

Yeah, it's just an extension of the minibrowser (isn't it?), which has always been hard-coded to use IE (hasn't it?)
lol, Then again I wouldn't know for sure, because apart from st00pid Yahoo browser which came with my BT Broadband installation, IE6 is the only browser on my system.

It's already referenced in the Official 5.0 Wishlist

Another entry in Official Wishlist:

Winamp Core
General
*Separate Freeform and Classic skins in the skin list

@auhsor
Options menu -> Winamp modern -> main windowsade mode
Try switching it to one of the other options (unlink position/width)

LMAO! These guys are talking as if they're already at the wake for Sonique's funeral Shows what a good job nullsoft have done this time.

btw, I'm not sure I'd use the Pro features, but I'm still happy to pay if it's not too much. It's the least I can do after using winamp for all this time, especially with this excellent new release even if AOL is big and evil

Winamp 5 is everything lovable about WA2, but with full freeform support and lower CPU usage. I was blown away. It's beautiful AND fast. It's doing everything I loved about S2 just slightly better.

Personally I'm going to try to support both platforms for a little while, but honestly... wow. S2 is easier to code for, but from a skinner's perspective of wanting to have a fast, smooth, popular skin... I can't imagine Winamp 5 not dominating.

I'm afraind that the average user who just wants to play music in a cool looking little app really won't see a need for Sonique 2 after this. It has fewer skins and uses more resources, all while offering fewer features. Winamp 5 has like 10,000 freaking skins to pick from.

I said and still say S2 is a better player than Winamp 3 ever was, but realistically, I don't know if it can viably compete against this new foe. I've been fooling with S2 every day for a year now. Over a year. I'm attached. But at this point I just can't find a reason to use S2 beyond being attached.

Truth be told, Sonique 2 would have and should have won this generation of audio players. It should have been S2 against Winamp 3 and WMP9. It's a generation old now and still only 'close' to beta.

So where do us S2 skinners go from here? Elyse is almost done, and I'm still going to release it once we have a beta. But in the long term... what am I doing?

It's going to fall on the skinners to adapt now. John... you need to determine where Sonique 2 is heading, what makes us special, and as skinners it will be up to us to become specialists.

So... what do we have that the Llamas don't?
meep, you are right, it seems some Sonique people are going to start abandoning it as it's falling behind.

Thought I'd ask this again, since no one seemed to notice it before.

I have a feeling that both of our questions are answered by "no" because the Winamp 2.9x/5 database is nowhere near as powerful as the WA3 database was, and because I don't think things like date added are recorded...

although now that I think about it, you might be able to sort by bitrate somehow, because that data is in the database (I think).

hehe, after reading the tread in the SQ forums it seems all that needs to be done is making tweening animations easier and better - and we've taken their only reason to stay from them. Allthough i actually sorta like SQ2, shame development is so slow over there.

WinAMP 5 works flawlessly for me so far with my favourite skin "MMD3" ... nice work!

What I'm missing is the CrossFader that was available in WinAMP 3 ... isn't it implemented, yet, or can I just not see it?

For the last and final time - the crossfader IS IN WINAMP 5. It's just not a button like in Winamp3. Go to preferences, plug-ins, output and highlight the crossfader plug-in. If it's not there download it then install it from the plug-in section of this site. Please god.. stop asking for something that is already there. All of you.

Directsound Crossfading is definitely in the current winamp 5.0beta.

Ctrl-P>Output>DirectSound v2.2.6>Configure>Fading

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

Finaly the first beta from wa5. I have winamp 5 since SuperSuperPreStoneageAlpha and i loved it from the first momoent i´ve seen it (love at first sight) but could you guys add one function to the ML. There is auotupdate function in winamp 3 Media library which isn´t in wa5 lib. could you add this function to wa5 lib, it would be very cool. Did Metirx realy made the skin? if yes wow, never thought they would be so good they ever get a job from Nullsoft. RESPECT. btw: you could also ask TheSkinFactory, they are also amazing good.

WoW cool now all we need is a icq plugin for winamp NOT hehe
but trillium could use a good plugin hehe

Luv it and yes winamp 3 uses more memory than 5
(at least on my computer)

winamp 5 even made it to bit torrent (see attachment)

keep up the good work but seeing that everybody is getting and posting it even here why not just have pulic beta download page on the web site ?
Or use bit torrent to seed it so you even save lots of bandwidth

then again how could aol run out of bandwidth lmao

Cheers

To download winamp with this file you will need to download this
or check out the web site first

Or use any other Bit torrent client

P.S. oh yeah winzip would help too

All the trillian plugins that worked with winamp 2 (winamp 2.x plugin by Cerulean Studies and RemoteControl by Daij-Djan) work with winamp 5.

ok i think its cool but it does not support all the skins. The md3 skin screws up all the time. Also they got rid of crossfading songs which i thought was cool. It would be cool if they could have a way to minimize winamp and have it still running like MSN messenger which only shows an icon in the system tray. other than that its pretty cool and better than winamp 3

Crossfading is available under Plug-Ins > Output > Directsound > fade options.

I wish that "Fast Layer 3 EQ" was not checked by default.

then all sound formats would use the same EQ. and settings would have the same effect on mp3, ogg, aac.

Most people will not understand the fact that another EQ is used when playing a mp3, so they will not change to george yohng's superior EQ.
