I'm impressed you guys aren't just selling them on ebay. Nice.

I think I'll wait until they're free. I'd love an account, but I wouldn't wanna deny anyone of it...

zootm are you on the side of good
if so i can hook you up as well

but none of these scumbags who just signed up to these forums just so they can scavenge for some gmail accounts.
it kinda makes them look like begging animals, it's amusing.

Geez,

and i thought that people on the winamp forums were rather nice compared to other forums...

I've been reading these forums for a few years now (started with winamp around the 1.x version), and have been a registered member for about a year now (long before Gmail ) So being called a beggar is not very correct

I agree that i didn't post that much, but I only post when i know the answer to a question, or when i have a question myself...

Anywho,

Greetz,

Sven

Can anyone explain what the big deal is? I don't understand why everyone wants one of these. A gig is a lot of storage for web-based mail, but it's still web-based mail.

The interface is fantastic. It uses funky client-side xml to reduce full page loads to a absolute minimum. This makes all loading really fast, comparable to outlook express.

It organises (and views) all emails by conversation, which is great if you have a high volume of email.

You'd think this comes with a price, but it is compatable with IE, mozilla, firefox, safari etc. (Pretty much everything except opera)

It is just better done than any other web based email i have seen before. Also, the ads are relavent, discreet (discrete too, haha) and sensitive. None of all that ani-gif crap you get with hotmail.

Will is right, Gmail does have a really simple and easy to navigate interface, along with loading fast.

@will: thanks. It makes a little more sense now, but it's still not something I'm interested in. It's nice to know that someone out there is rocking the boat, as competition like this makes for good progress in many areas.

If I'm reading that correctly, "It organises (and views) all emails by conversation" is the same as Thunderbird's organizing by thread (Thunderbird can sort mail so that replies to an e-amil show in a tree-like structure)? Sounds handy. Cheers.

POP3 all the way baby. I don't see the deal with all the Gmail craze unless you receive shitloads of porn, which you keep in your account.

I prefer IMAP, but I'll use POP3 if I need to. GMail can have POP access with the program I mentioned.

Also, its good to sign up early before all the good names are taken

Beware that it might be filtered as junk.
