It amazes me how you're all falling over yourselves to get a gmail invite for one of these 'gb' mailboxes, don't you realise it just equals more spam storage, I've just have my ISP mailbox upgraded to 2gb , and I'm actively emailing the ISP asking them I can go back to the bog standard 50mb version.

It was a pain in the arse to have to get rid of mb worth of spam/viruses, now I'm staring down the long end of gb's worth, and all in a mailbox I never use anyhow for mailing people.

Great, so it has a funky interface , I'll be able to view my spam and think how pretty it looks and how deleting it is not such a chore.

As long as the 'check all' and delete buttons are nice and visable, what else matters.

Sorry, I can't get excited over anything email related when I get nearly a 1000+ spams / virus related crap each and every day, despite every filter variation I can throw at it.

In fact, I'm thinking about adding a filter that says..

If SUBJECT contains A (match case) then SEND TO TRASH

And repeating that 26 times for each letter of the alphabet...

Electronic mail lost it's usefulness about 3 years ago for me, it's no longer the communication method of the future, as it was touted, it's more of an inconvinience and anoyance now than anything. And no matter how much you arse it up by dressing it in pretty colours and sexy guis, at the end of the day it's still useless.

I've not received spam either in my gmail account (which granted, is only a day old) or any of my accounts that have been around for about 5 years now, and that's why I have a cheap free hotmail account simply for nothing but spam which is what I use to sign up for crap, and that too doesnt even get all that much spam, maybe 1 or 2 a day.

actually hotmail has been pretty impressive about stopping spam, I haven't seen spam there in nearly 6 months, all of it goes to the junk folder which I view everynow and then to only find what should be there, nonsense.

As far as Gmail, we will see if they live up to the promise of the same amount of spam protection, but for now I am happy with the service, had it for a little while and still not spam. Considering that the usernames are longer I doubt unless you have a common name or word in your username field you will see much spam for quite sometime. You could also post your gmail address on a public webpage or forum to speed up this process, or sign up for crappy services using it. I won't be doing that though, I will keep it clean and let hotmail handle the shifty services.
