I pull my hat in front of you to show my appreciation of course, it's mostly accompained by a bow, but of course you knew that since you are God and were just testing me, right?

I didn't mean it in an offending way either, don't get me wrong, but I have never in my life heard of that last name, I thus thought it was made up. Is it a common name? My last name is so uncommon I only know relatives that posess it. That's why I don't want to post it here because I could easily be tracked down. Let me just tell you: It starts with a "W" and ends with a "y".

I'm not sure if I should use my forum name or my real name. Then again, I don't think that you guys from the forums and other online people would e mail me that much so I'll take my real name which surely isn't taken yet, since it's going to be sent back to you xzxzzx, you need to keep quiet, alright?

[edit]protegechris - just no! All my Swiss girlfriends would be laughing their ass of and/or feel offended. Plus I rahter want to use that address for a long time, even for official stuff so an address like that might not be a good idea, thanks for the attempt to help though [/edit]

It's pretty common. Go to http://www.onelook.com, and put in my last name as a word to look up, and it'll give you a ranking in the US. You can also do a Google search, it'll come up with quite a few examples.

Is 1 GB of storage really the only perk to GMail? Hotmail is coming out with a quarter of that, and I'm only using a quarter of whatever they're giving now.

If there are other perks, please tell me.

If there are other perks, send invite to ovalash[at]msn[.com]

[edit] Also, why doesn't Gmail's official sites talk about Gmail "invites," but says that it's not available at all to anyone of the general public?

it shouldn't, but it may put it in junk/spam email folder.

it's fast, easy, more customizable, less annoying (small ads).

Ummm, I think I didn't ask that question, at least I don't remember, it was late at night, but I'm too lazy to scroll back now...

Hotmail down't put it into the junk mail folder, at least it didn't for me and my junk thing is set to high.

I think the 1GB storage is great, I also have a student account with 50MB and this one has already been full after 1/2 year with me deleting all the spam (which wasn't much) all the time - I just get a lot of emails I guess

And now it seems Google has stopped handing out invites altogether. Aww.

This is just a rumour overheard from a Gmail user group, though.

it's true, I did only register at this forum to try to get an invite, mainly i don't have time to post in more than one forum (i post a lot at www.gamingforums.com). But i just really want/need gmail, so if anyone has any spare invites, it would be great.

Well, i have been here for a while. I just never posted or registered. It may seen strange to some of you, but there are some people who like to read this forum and don´t have anything to say about it. I like to know other people´s opinions, but i don´t really care about giving my own.
If you think i don´t deserve an invitation because i´m new here and just registered because i wanted one, it´s ok. I´ll just del my posts in a few days.

Gmail has stopped giving out invites (for now). They are most likely using it to control the growth of the service.

I still have two invites for any regulars that want them.

Signing up just to beg for one is lame, and even lamer is people selling them (the lamest, is people selling them who I GAVE their original invite.)

I disagree with most of that stuff. Any decent webmail provider (including yahoo and hotmail) scan the contents of your message for spam/virus analasys in the same way that Gmail does for ads.

And as far as the privacy concerns, no webmail company can guarantee immediate deletion of your mail if you delete your account because of all the backups they make, and at least Gmail has updated their policy to say it will eventually get deleted.

And as far as the data mining practices, no different then any other website. If you have something you really want private, you should be encrypting it.

I like Gmail, for its space and features.

Until they are ready to grow the user base more. They had a long testing phase where they were ironing out bugs and stress testing, now they are back to developing features. Could be some time.

I'm sure the lameness developing over the exchange of invites didnt exactly make them happy, and I doubt stopping the growth was a hard decision. Reminds me of the Brazillians taking over Orkut, and the Picasa fiasco. Why do people get so horny for beta Google stuff? I hope it doesnt cause them to stop opening up their betas for feedback.

I bet the main reason they stopped giving out invites was because of them being sold on Ebay. That's like someone downloading a demo of a game and then selling the demo to other people for money. I just don't see how they are still letting people sell them on Ebay.
