I'll get right on that.

I just don't see why some sports are so adament about keeping technology out of the sport. People were so anti-replay in the NFL (american football), but it has worked well. Tennis is the only sport I can think of that has embraced the use of technology to better its sport.

Very true, I guess people just don't like big changes, tennis is a good example, rugby also moved slowly to the 4th video official.

Change will come I'm sure.

It's alleged that one of the Portuguese football players failed a drugs and alcohol test after the match. If this is confirmed as positive, under World Football Federation rules, paragraph 6 sub section 2e, Portugal will forfeit the quarter final match and England will play France in the Semi Final which will be postponed till tomorrow.

Henry may have milked it a bit for effect, but there was no doubt it was a penalty.

Speaking of gay:

Elton John Lashes Out At England World Cup Team

Quote:
Elton John has lashed out at the England football team for “letting down” their fans at this year’s World Cup in Germany.

“There has not been an outstanding player at this World Cup. I do not even want to talk about that fucking Sven Goran Abba-dabba.” He told his audience in Bournemouth. (For those of you NOT familiar with the England team, he’s referring to England coach Sven Goran Eriksson.)

“As always the England fans have been fantastic. They have been let down by the team and let down by people earning £125,000 a week. It's a disgrace.”

England made it to the quarter finals before being knocked out by Portugal last week, although many England fans believed they were lucky to get that far.

Last week Lily Allen wrote in her blog that “[David] Beckham is shit”, Portugese star Christiano Ronaldo is “pure evil” and that England should thank god coach Sven Goran Eriksson’s “reign of terror” is over.

If I really cared about either of the people referenced in the article it might not sting this much.

I could care less who Elton John is blaming much less whose organ he's grinding.
I laugh at how this is news and how the tard has even an inkling of interest in a man's sport.

Golden Ball Award

I'd noticed while browsing the net that there is another award similar to the Golden Ball, but this one we control. No more pompos "know-it-all's" or "office bureaucrat" sitting in some office gettings brides. It's real simple It's based entirely on our opinion.

Voting is done online at http://www.peopleschoiceawards.co.uk...sp?award_id=23

So, show your support for them.

Michael Manniche, eh ? Are they blithering idiots or something ?

His real name is Nuno Ricardo Oliveira Ribeiro. Maniche's his nick, inspired by Michael Manniche, who's an ex Danish player, quite famous in Portugal because of his games for Benfica.

No votes for Zidane ? How nice. Noobs.

Elton for the longest time owned a football team in the UK, Watford FC, I think from about 1977. And while he dosn't own it any longer, he is the lifetime president of it.

The man knows his football, which is more than a lot of people in this thread do , that's for sure.

Piss off.

Let me explain why FIFA is on my list of really fucked up things along with certain member's posts.

First off:
  • Officiating
In the NFL (yes, it's not "the beautiful game" but this it's being used here to demonstrate a point about human proficiency in officiating sports) officials are forced to make snap decisions real time. It's clearly noticeable not only to me but sporting reporters as well as fans that FIFA's officiating of the World Cup has been horrendous to say the least.
NFL referees call holding the most over all other penalties. It's when a member of a team is held by an opponent in a grasping manner in order to slow and/or stop his progress. In nearly every case, the calls are justified and are rarely not called. It's obvious what's happening and acting lessons are money wasted. So what's the story with FIFA officials? Are they so inept that they can't spot illegal contact and must rely on the so-called victim's acting/grasping of body part/screaming and writhing in pain? The officials are either:
    A)Easily duped by terrible thespians
B)Wagering on one team or the other
    C)Incoherent of their responsibilities (Stupid)
  • Yellow and red cards
    Senseless!
There should be three yellow cards before a red rather than two. I mean come on. You can lose a player in the first half? Not even professional hackman Kurt Rambis could accomplish that in the NBA mugging people as he used to do (I know because I fouled out of most games in the fourth quarter).
There's also this issue of a player missing the next match.
    WTF?
So we can possibly go into a chamionship match without a team's star player? Assinine.
There will forever be that "what if" and the overshadowing of his absence on the opponent's victory should they when the game by such means of a handicap.
  • PK shootouts
    GAY!
Suddenly because two teams are so evenly matched that they cannot occur a win, they are forced into doing something that no longer involves the true scope and the true merit of teamplay of the game? This shit needs to be fixed but wait!
How about sudden death? OOoohhhh sppoooooookkyyy!
    Quote:
In February 2004 it was decided by the IFAB that after Euro 2004 in Portugal, both the golden goal and the silver goal procedures would be removed from the Laws of the Game because "sudden death" was perceived to have negative connotations...
...and teams went on the defensive to protect themselves from defeat
  • Summary
Sure, I'm a yank whose opinion can't be respected by those who have only football and cricket to entertain themselves with sportswise but IF anything gets taken away from this post, remember this:
If football has been around for so long and been enjoyed by so many, why do we keep changing the rules? Why do we keep saying the officiating is bollocks? Why do fans of the sport have to keep explaining why it's the best sport on the planet when, if it's that good, all should be wise to it? Why don't the best teams end up in the championship rather than the bracketed, out of work actors who have referee money on them at the sportsbox?
Oh, by the way, us "yanks" have multiple sports year round to keep us occupied except for this two month lag between NBA/NHL and the NFL which we use to substitute baseball and auto racing. However, most of us use this time to play, for ourselves, baseball/softball, golf, tennis, bicycling, fishing, hunting, basketball, war() and a slew of other things to keep us from being transfixed by one sport that will only leave us with a letdown and ultimately depression as our sole sports focus bows out before achieving success.

Grip, get one.

Saw that, did you?

The way he was acting on the field, it was like "Huh? I did what? NO! I would never do anything like that."

Congratulations, Italy.

The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully.

I agree. I'm very interested in hearing his explanation though.

Italy didn't deserve the win tho imho. They played like crap throughout the tournament, with goals in 90+ minutes. Bullshit.

Italians were a disgrace - they did NOT deserve the title!

Shame on Materrazzi and buffoon who purposely provoked Zidane with supposedly racial taunts, to evoke such a reaction. Although it was equally shameful of Zidane to react physically, if it is later proved that the provocation was actually PHYSICAL, then ITALY SHOULD BE STRIPPED OFF THE TITLE & a rematch should be held.

I disagree - Italy deserved the title and the win.... Zidane's penalty shouldn't have been given in the first place (though it was excellent), and there is no excuse for headbutting another player, even if you have been held.

Strongly disagree. Materrazzi got a yellow for his conduct which was as much as he could or should have been given. There were cameras everywhere, other than the holding there was no phsyical provocation. The ref did all he could, and stripping the Italians of their title would be as unprecedented as it would be unjustified. Which is "very" in both cases.

Source for where Zidane claims that Mat. was using racial taunts?

My dad and I were wondering what the Italian said to Zidane.

I thought France had outplayed Italy during regulation, you could just see how both teams just died down during overtime.
