A new version of libvpx 1.1.0 "Eider" is available (2012-05-10).

"In addition to a number of enhancements, this release fixes a decoder bug first introduced in v1.0.0, "Duclair," so all users of that release are encouraged to upgrade."

This release acts as a checkpoint for a large amount of internal refactoring
and testing. It also contains a number of small bugfixes, so all users are
encouraged to upgrade.

- Upgrading:
This release is ABI and API compatible with Duclair (v1.0.0). Users
of older releases should refer to the Upgrading notes in this
document for that release.

- Enhancements:
VP8 optimizations for MIPS dspr2
vpxenc: add -quiet option

- Speed:
Encoder and decoder speed is consistent with the Eider release.

- Quality:
In general, quality is consistent with the Eider release.

Minor tweaks to ARNR filtering
Minor improvements to real time encoding with multiple temporal layers

- Bug Fixes:
Fixes multithreaded encoder race condition in loopfilter
Fixes multi-resolution threaded encoding
Fix potential encoder dead-lock after picture resize

VP9 is open source, the question is will WinAMP support in NSV once it released in final version

wonderful, yet another codec to have to ship and 'support' when there's however many that never gain traction to be 'dropped' for the next shiny one that comes along *groans* (along with people spelling Winamp incorrectly almost 10 years after the capitalisation changed).

well i'm not seeing the pre-compiled libraries we've been using for VP8 support so ii'll just have to keep an eye for if / when that appears (i'm not going to mess around trying to make a build of the library).

as for VP9 support, who can say if Winamp will get a native VP9 decoder (if / when VP9 gets to be stable / useable) or whatever else becomes the next 'codec of the month'.
