wav files do not allow for embedding of album art as they don't have a proper tagging format which would even allow it. the only way is effectively to use an external artwork file for the wav file(s) as applicable.

translation .. . i tried to drag and drop an image onto the album jacket but the only thing it does is to create a new album , it clones the album ..

i have no idea what / where you are referring to. all i know is embedding of artwork in wav files will not work and all that can be done is to use Winamp's external artwork file lookup to get it showing artwork for wav files.

The 'externally attached' method DrO is talking about works like this.

Collect all the tracks from a single album into one folder.
Add the artwork file for that album to the folder, rename the artwork file to 'cover.jpg' (or whatever format it is). This can be any size, but smaller files load quicker.

Hi,

I also find WA's artwork handling features confusing (as compared with what some other apps do) and not providing my desired result. Especially using WA to look for stuff on the WEB was/is more miss than hit for me. So I learned to step outside of WA for my artwork (and major tagging) needs.

Before I changed my file storage structure and began embedding all my artwork (not possible with 'true' wav files), I used Windows explorer to copy an appropriately named image file to each of my album folders. File naming must follow the following rules.

1. %album%.jpg/png/gif/bmp (where %album% is the exact name of the Album tag)

2. An .nfo file with the exact same filename as an image file in the containing folder

3. cover.jpg/png/gif/bmp

4. folder.jpg/png/gif/bmp

5. front.jpg/png/gif/bmp

DrO reports that "albumart.jpg/png/gif/bmp" will be supported in the next release of WA. The first rule will not work for 'true' wav files because they do not have an album tag (or any other tags). A nfo file is just a text file with that extension.

I used, and still use, various free 3rd party tools to download artwork from the WEB and now only use audio file formats that let me embed the image (WA looks for an embedded image first). So, no more renaming files and moving stuff around into 1 folder per album.

use FLAC, flac is lossless and can be properly tagged.

also, i don't embed, i just use Folder.jpg in each album folder, and this works with windows explorer as well, and avoids some issues with embeds in a large library.

finally i chose the cover file in folder method . Audacity does not allow at least in it's native form to export in FLAC format , so i'll do that way for now . i used to have all my files in the same folder but that's not a big deal

somebody can add [solved] in the title , thanks

Hi jpm1,

Glad you got something working for you. If you later decide that you want ID3 tag-able files, I'm sure you can find Audacity wav format to flac format conversion instructions on the WEB. Using properly tagged files makes it so much easier to find and sort stuff.
