Oh my god! Winamp crashed

Winamp crashed!
Yes, it crashed. I've been using it since 2001, and it has never ever crashed. But now, it has.
I'm really shocked. It has survived under the most extreme situations, and it never crashed, or locked up.
But today, it did.
Just wanted to let you guys know this most useless information.

Actually it wouldn't be useless information if you had given us details of what was going on when it crashed. And have you updated to the latest release, lots of bug fixors in that one.

I'll admit that Winamp would crash every once in a while on me, but that was years ago. I think what was to blame was my system itself, though - not the program. Lately, as in the last few years, I can't recall a crash. But then again, I never really remember that kind of stuff either.

Crash??? the only way to crash winamp is by using some dodgy third party plugin.

dan1el...the only videos that cause Winamp to crash are corrupted or encoded with corrupted codecs. I've been using Winamp 5 since it came out as the only media player and it has crashed only once when playing video.

if Winamp crashes often, it's time to look at your hardware (RAM, video, sound) and get rid of any 3rd party plugins (some exceptions to this...DrO's plugins for example have never caused any probs for me) possibly do a clean install of windows (or repair)

It's been said a thousand times (gross underestimate) maintenance on a PC is imperative and will fix 90%+ of the problems you may encounter.

umm. does winamp have common problems with certain mp3's? cuz i just got a few the other day from a friend and they are constantly crashing winamp. one thing i did notice though was that when i start them playing, ive got the popup thingie that shows a yellow message window above the tray with song info, in the place where the song length is, it has a bunch of jibberish.

I've had a few mp3's that had no sound and some that crashed winamp and sonique (ducks from thrown motherboard) because of bad encoding. the only thing that caused a constant crash was after upgrading to 5.02 pro it would crash when trying to select vis plugins...this was fixed with a clean install.

My system is perfect as ****, actully. It crashes when showing videos recorded by my digital camera. MPEG and MPG movies. DivX happens too.

And since thats is the only videos I play, Winamp will always crash. All the other video players I have doesn't seem to have the same problem.

Sux.

For me, some videos cause problems, then again, they cause problems in other players too so its not Winamp. And it's so rare that I don't notice.

A 1.47ghz/224MB should run it fine. My 233/128MB EDO at home does

@dan1el...is it a Sony camera? I've seen a couple of other threads talking about slow playback of mpeg recorded by Sony cameras. (this may apply to more than just Sony)It could be the same problem.

funny, i have had a problem with winamp causing an error in Ccapp.
then ie wont work.
then i restarted and all my colors are lighter
now i have to reinstall my video card.
and i was messing with my color settings to try to fix the problem and now i have no gradients in the top of my windows

so i'm screwed

but that's a whole thread in it'self, i need to fix the color problem first then reinstall winamp then see if the problem persists

Meh, my whole computer crashes all the time.

Winamp runs fine if I just run Winamp, but I do heaps of other stuff which probably causes it to crash. P3 550, btw.
