well im using php scripts to call on C scripts to reload, skip track etc. and was going to be adding DJ's to the conf using php, just wonderd if they could be in a seperate file.. guess not lol (any plans for that tho?).

Does using SIGUSR1 not reload the conf and in effect reload the xml? If not I assume every time the calendar.php changes I would need to completely restart the stream? We expect to have a large number of Live DJ's anyway, so no biggie i guess.

Also, do I need to use AJAX to access the API? If I can use php can you give some more info on how to go about accessing it as the docs that you send out with the release leave a lot to be desiered.

Thanks

SIGUSR1 reloads the main playlist, it does not reload the conf file.

AJAX is not a language, it's a technique. You can access the API with pretty much any programming language. Basically, you make an HTTP POST request, and get XML back. That's all there is to it.

ohhh right, i see, so to add an event or new dj i could just use a simple form to send info, then the jQuery to retrieve the xml.. kool, why someone hasn't written this in php yet and submitted it for others is beyond me.. cya in a few days with what I come up with

The API uses POST requests not GET requests.

I've got sc_trans 2.0 running and I've checked throughout the posts for more information on the crossfading - I don't think this question has been answered directly, so here goes: The older sc_trans had a crossfade mode setting that determined the fades at the front and end of a file: 100->100, 100->0, 0->100. This allowed us to set up a crossfade where the next file started playing at full level while the current one faded out, the overlap determined by the crossfade length. I think this is a very important feature and I would like to ask that it be included in version 2 if at all possible. The "V" fade mode seems to be the only one supported in the new version - the music licensing folks want to have healthy overlaps to discourage stream ripping...

Hi,

Firstly, congratulations .
Everything works very well despite some minor problems setting up scheduled tasks.

A great new feature for future : force event to play.

Example :
Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<eventlist>
<event type="playlist">
<calendar />
<playlist loopatend="1" shuffle="0" priority="1">default</playlist>
</event>
<event type="playlist">
<calendar starttime="01:00:00" duration="00:10:00" timeoffset="00:00:00" repeat="128" force="true" />
<playlist loopatend="0" shuffle="0" priority="10">tophoraire</playlist>
</event>
</eventlist>
... and sc_trans is fading to next automatically to top hour file (don't wait current playing file finish).

Sorry for my bad english.

OS-X Capture Device Name?

Anyone know what the proper capture device names should be for an iMac running OS-X 10.5 Leopard?

Also, can sc_trans just grab the system audio that is fed by another program, say MPG123? What device name would that be?

Thanks to anyone who could help, thanks to the sc_trans dev team!

I pretty sure for the mac you can leave it blank. Also try capturedebug=1 in the conf file for more information.

Thanks, I'll try that. So would this grab the Line-In audio?

Can I grab the System Audio?

I can't test this yet as I get another error upon start-up, but I assume it's because I don't have any active server to connect to yet. I get:
code:

$ ./sc_trans sc_trans.conf
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid
Abort trap
$

The terminate is a locale problem. Set LC_ALL=posix in your environment and you should get a more meaningful message.

Didn't help.

code:

$ env

... stuff deleted ...

LC_ALL=posix
_=/usr/bin/env

$ ./sc_trans ./sc_trans.conf
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid

oops, posix should be all upper case

LC_ALL=POSIX

if it works, the shell command "locale" should output this:

LANG=
LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
LC_CTYPE="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
LC_TIME="POSIX"
LC_ALL="POSIX"

Perfect, it runs! Here is a less harmful warning:
code:

I also get this when running MPG123 to source my files to the system audio device, so it might not be anything to do with sc_trans. My goal is to use MPG123 to play a list to the system default audio device and get sc_trans to capture that device to send to sc server. This will all move to Linux once I test this process out on my iMac DEV system.

Why would you do that?

sc_trans is designed to run a playlist for you.

Seems like you're making extra work for yourself, as well as introducing noise into the mix by passing out the audio device and back in.

What is the specific reason for sending to the default audio device and capturing it? If you don't mind that is

I believe he trying to use a play list that was already made with his collection of music or the player he is using must have some features sc trans doesn't...I guess he looking the easy way out.

This is also something I am highly interested in seeing re-added and remember asking about it in the Beta 3 or 4 thread last spring.

Did this feature make the cut for Beta 6?

I think we have to wait a long time, before Beta6 is coming.

Unfortunately slow motion, since "Tag" has left the Dev-Team

It may be slow motion, but I was not the author of Sc_trans 2... So there is hope!

Also bear in mind, it was *always* slow going. My departure may have had some impact but please don't get the idea that the fine folks that remain will stop working as hard as always.

Neil mentioned on the previous page that the pipeline should start flowing again by the end of October. That's why I mentioned beta 6 directly. At least I hope it starts flowing again.

Hi all.

Is there any fix for the edcast / sctrans password format issue?

user:pass - user%3Apass

DJ can connect but then no metadata gets relayed.

Cheers!

Hello,
My name is Marius , I want to use sc_trans for a radio project of mine.
But I have a problem and I did not find yet an answer, maybe you can help me!

Ok so I have CentOS , shoutcast server (last version from the site) - no problems here.

When I start sc_trans it plays a random time ( between 1 minute and 1 hour) and then it gets blocked ( I mean it loads the CPU to 100% - standard is maximum 10 %, and stops sending to shoutcast server).

This is the configuration file:
code:

;; VU Images
vuimagedirectory=/home/radio/bin/vuimages/

;; ENCODER OPTIONS
encoder=mp3
bitrate=96000
samplerate=44100
channels=2

;;; NETWORK OPTIONS
outprotocol=1
serverip=localhost
serverport=8000
password=password

;;;; LOGGING OPTIONS:
;where does the log file go
logfile=/home/radio/bin/logs/sc_trans.log
; 1 to do screen logging else 0
screenlog=1

;;;;;; METADATA CONTROL

; url related to my stream
streamurl=http://teststream.com
; my genre
genre=Top 50
; other assorted stuff

irc=
icq=
; register with yp
public=0

;;;; PLAYLIST CONTROL
; your playlist
playlistfile=/home/radio/bin/playlists/default.lst
; by default we shuffle the playlist. Lets turn that off
shuffle = 1
; set our crossfade time to 2 seconds. zero means no xfade
xfade=2
; file must be at least 20 seconds or we don't crossfade
xfadethreshold=20
; drop folder for priority playlists
playlists=/home/radio/bin/playlists/priority/
; where finished priority playlists get copied
archive=/home/radio/bin/playlists/done/

;;; LIVE CAPTURE:
; don't capture
capture=0
; set capture parameters
;capturedevice=Sound Blaster
;captureinput=Line-In
;capturesamplerate=44100
;capturechannels=2

;;;; DJ SUPPORT:

;; REPLAY GAIN CONTROL:

The sc_trans log is:

on
code:
<11/09/09@21:56:51> [source] source dropped connection. disconnecting.
i killed the thread, because the sc_trans stays logged in to shoutcast but id doesn't transmit anymore.

People seem to have problems with this from time to time. Not too sure if I have ever seen a definitive resolution to it.

Check to see if one file causes the server to freak out. If so, it might be a poorly encoded file and you might want to try it again.

Also try changing the quality setting to a higher number (1 to 10) and see if that makes the problem go away. 1 is the highest quality setting, 10 is the lowest.

I do vaguely recall another post about this problem. The resolution had something to do with the mp3 files, though I seem to recall it being a bit more odd than just a bad mp3. (It was also occuring on CentOS I think).

If it DOES turn out to be a bad mp3, contact me and we'll set up a means of exchanging the file so I can look into the problem.

Thanks. Yes I tried, cant find no contact info on the site and their forums don't work for registering!

What other options are there for uploading a live stream to sctrans? (Apart from Winamp DSP)

I found this, it only actually does it the second time you try to connect in a single Edcast 'session' (if that's what you call it). Close Edcast, re-open it and it will work the first time you connect - it's only the second time that it does that.

Oh yeah, and the reason I meant to post here in the first place - does anyone know if any way to set up priorities so that people can't kick each other off? If you set multiple DJs with the same priority then it seems that the one connected gets booted when someone else connects! This is completely the wrong way round, it is right how the DNAS works - once someone is on they can't get booted (except by admin). I think DJs should only get booted if the DJ connecting after them has higher priority and NOT if they are the same.

Ensure you have the correct permissions set on the binary.
Sounds ghey but sometimes helps.

Does no one have any idea on how to solve the problem with DJs with the same priority being able to kick each other off? It's quite a major flaw and renders the whole thing useless to the station I run because I don't want DJs cutting in to each other's shows (whether accidentally or on purpose).

If a DJ is connected, then anyone trying to connect after them with the same priority should be denied rather than the first DJ being booted.

Maybe I've got it completely wrong but that's what seemed to happen when I was testing.

Based on scheduling could you just not set the priortys of djs based on their show time ?

I'll try that - in the example, it shows that you can put a priority for <playlist> but it doesn't seem to show it for <dj> - the DJ priority is set in the conf file.

I'll try that anyway, if it is possible like that then it's ideal.

That is ghey, and it worked! - chmodded sc_trans to 0777 worked perfectly, thanks!

aacPlus v2 or eAAC+ or HE-AAC

Hi,

Can sc_trans encode a stream to 64k HE-AAC or aacPlus v2 or eAAC+?

We're still waiting on that third party company to finish work that is blocking the release of any further updates.

I'd like to know if in new transcoder version will be reconnect option, and when will it be published? Because I really need it, and many people, as I think, also.
