I want to stream my microphone to my shoutcast server with DSP:/dev/audio as one line in a playlist.lst with linux a long time ago. I don't find any /dev/audio or /dev/dsp in new versions of linux. I tried DSP:/hw:0,0 or DSP://plughw:0,0 Anyone know how to make this work with kernel 3.10? This a headless server I am using as part of a home monitoring system
linux playlist.lst DSP:/dev/audio

I believe that this is because kernels past the 2.6 era switched from using OSS as the main sounds driver to ALSA.
As you have noted, ALSA does not provide the same functionality and the /dev/dsp directory is vanished.
It is possible that the OSS modules are installed somewhere, but are not loading at boot.
If that is the case, then
If OSS is not installed at all, then you will need to potentially recompile the kernel with OSS enabled.code:
sudo modprobe snd-pcm-oss
