Same Album - Multiple listing

I'm not sure if this is some Android bug, or a Winamp thing.

When I use the Album sort in the library, some albums (specifically motion picture soundtracks) get listed multiple times. For example, The Crow. In the album listing, it is listed 8 times. Each entry with a different artist (the fact that the song title is not listed is probably better left for another thread).
I know that all the songs physically reside in the same folder ( music\soundtracks\The Crow\song name.mp3 )
I know that the files are correctly tagged.
Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?

b/c all the tracks need to have the same "album artist" tag, like for example "Soundtrack, Film"

That is exactly my point! Why have this behavior? Why look at any artist tags at all? I didn't tap the "Album" button to get a sort based on artists. When I tap on the "Artist" button, I get a list based on the "Artist" tag regardless of the other tags.

the behavior is the de facto standard of many apps and devices, its not at all unusual.

how else is the phone to know? it can't base it solely on folder location, b/c many people (not me) keep more than one album in a folder.

just add album artist tags to albums that have differentiating artists on the same album, and you'll be good to go.

No, but TAGS are there for a reason. If I ask for an Album sort, it should look at the Album tag, and the Album tag ONLY. The phone or app wouldn't be relying on a location, but on the tag that I asked it to sort on. Not on multiple tags that have nothing to do with the Album title.

Perhaps there should be a custom sort option where users can define the tag search parameters. This would (IMO) improve the sort functionality without having to change any "de facto" standards.

you have to consider differing scenarios. for instance, what if you had two or more albums of the same name? "Greatest Hits" comes to mind. do they all get lumped into one album?

i don't follow the suggestion.

i don't understand why you don't want to use other tags?

Yeah I've had this happen in a bunch of programs. Get them labels right!
