Winamp Android Feature Request Survey

Here's my feature request:

I've got a collection of 19.000+ Songs and I want to be able to control my Digital Media Renderer via Winamp (see DLNA on wikipedia). That includes handling of a playlist for the whole collection (all other tested UPnP apps didn't handle that very good).

Skins. Ideally, desktop skins that fit a certain set of criteria (ie: compact size, etc).

Hi all i really love winamp for android but adding songs to a playlist is a pain you should be able to use a check box or something for editing playlists like on the amazon cloud player really nice playlist adder, thanks

1) Make WiFi sync actually work. I got it to work once, but ever since then it flakes in and out, never connecting long enough to accomplish anything.
2) When playing an album, the songs should be played by track number, not alphabetically.

Please add album year to the lists, or the option to enable it. I like to choose an artist and select an album by what year it came out.

From what I've seen, no other music apps have this feature either. Would be nice if Winamp was the first.

I wish the Android version supported avs plugins and shout cast TV or whatever winamp for PC played.

it's unlikely you'll see AVS (or something like it) or SCTV supported as sadly you cannot expect like for like with the desktop when it comes to the android version. plus visualisers would kill the battery more so than already happens and SCTV requires codec support which pretty much isn't available natively on any platform (which means software decoding, lots more CPU usage and then the battery being used up even faster).

First: LOVE Winamp. It's been my player for, like 15 years. Great job. Looking forward to seeing the Android version get better and better.

I filled out the survey, but I'll drop my suggestions here too, so everyone can marvel at them. =)

Four features:
1) Customizable keyboard shortcuts
2) Swipe-sensitive lock screen player
3) Toggle to keep playlist on screen after song selection (instead of switch to album art)
4) Queued songs take priority over Random.

In depth:
1)Customizable keyboard shortcuts.
Use case is specifically driving: I want to mount the device, press play, and never touch it again (in accordance to laws in Ontario). I want to then mount a mini Bluetooth keyboard to the steering wheel. Then with a single keystroke (by touch type, not taking eyes off road), control Winamp like I would a computer. Next, back, stop are the most important.

Note: customizable for sure, not just media keys. All mini keyboards I see require FN+key to access the media buttons, and a two-button press isn't conducive to safe driving.

2) Better lock-screen controls
This is more of "at the gym". Phone is on treadmill, in lock mode. It's nearly impossible to hit the tiny next button. Would like "swipe to switch tracks, double tap to stop" anywhere on the screen. (Well, except for the unlock button, I suppose). It would be amazing if this would work while the screen's off, but I don't know if that's even technically possible.

3) Play from playlist toggle option.
Whenever I have the song list up, I tap a song. The song list vanishes, and the stupid cover art comes up. I don't care about the cover art, I just was to keep seeing the playlist. Maybe I mistapped and played the wrong song. Maybe I want to tap around and listen to the start of a few songs. Maybe I want to browse the list while the current song plays. I really have absolutely no use case for the album art screen.

4) Queue like on desktop that takes priority over Random.
The #1 killer feature for me on Winamp desktop is the queue. I love to play on Random, but when I want a specific song, I find it and hit Q. My desired song plays next, then goes back to random. Would LOVE this feature on Winamp.

One thing that I am DYING to see is some way of alphabetizing the songs on a playlist. I have a Favorite Songs playlist that I frequently update, meaning that it's probably over 500 songs. I hate that I have to manually move the newly added songs around to keep them in alphabetical order so I can find them easily. A way to re-alphabetize them would be SO appreciated.

What happened to the full album (Or CD Can't remember what it was called) on the Android version? I used to like some of the stuff I could listen to!

When I'm playing a ShoutCast stream in the car, every time my cellphone connects to a different cell tower, the ShoutCast stream is dropped. An auto-reconnect or buffer type feature would be awesome!

I want my ratings!!! Bar none, my favorite features of winamp revolve around the ratings. I'd love to be able to at least see the ratings when I sync songs to my android, and ideally I'd love to change them, and sync back to my PC.

Uff... lots to add, but I´ll point to my field.. skins! Winamp without skins is like pizza without cheese..

yet most people prefer things looking like the OS being used than skins for things (those days of skins being the thing are long gone). though i've seen it crop up where people won't use WAFA because it doesn't have skin support or plug-in support (though that'd be meaningless as people would have to make them from scratch for an Android version).

PowerAmp is the most downloaded and popular Android player and has skins.. Player Pro too, besides Nexmusic, Apolo (I think, or it was just colorization) and a couple more I can´t recall now.

Being customization one of the main keys of Android, it does make sense to give the user the ability to "change", although, it has to be said, having so many thing in the "to do list" even I think this should be considered among the last features on the list (specially if dev team is small and can´t afford "focused groups").

is there a way we could get a winamp for iphone? I use winamp since 98 or 99 and i know there will be alot of people very happy having the winamp on the iphone.

+1 for skins; that was always fun.

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but I would also like to see "Play by Folder" -- which is to say: I have some badly tagged files or a set of "various artist" folders that play in an organized fashion if added by filename. I'd like that to come to Winamp for Android.

I asked about the old discovery option for Winamp on another thread but guess it's worth a shot asking here for the Android version too - do you think there's a chance itcould make it's way back onto our (now much smaller) screens? I used to love this feature and would be delighted to see it back.

the same response applies as its a SHOUTcast service that will not be resurrected. plus this was an audio app and not a video player as well which would be needed to play such things.

it's best that you forget about SHOUTcast TV as its been gone almost 2 years and no one has really missed it going. as there were less than 80 streams, less than 500 users on those streams and it was mostly crap / porn. so that's why it won't return and Winamp was never good for video (if the client supported video), just audio.
