Winamp PRO for FREE?

Do you consider releasing Winamp PRO for FREE since you are closing?

I have my doubts they would do that.
If you paid for a product and now it's suddenly free, wouldn't you be a bit of angry?
Angry may be the wrong word, my english isn't perfect.

We'll have to wait and see what happens first before jumping to any conclusions or acting too hastily.

The current situation is that 5.66 is the last AOL/Nullsoft release of Winamp.
Someone could still come along and buy/save it.

If no-one does, then maybe someone will deal with this particular question...

Until then, keep praying :-)

For legal reasons, I'm not at liberty to discuss such matters here.
You would need to contact AOL Corp.

Sorry, me too, just laugh cause that was one of the first things I thought (and moving it onto a Kickstarter or something) but in the wave of things that were being said I totally forgot about it..

no need to apologize, I was just clarifying myself; but kickstarter was going to be my next suggestion. kind of hard to do tho when you have no idea what the goal is.

Why not start a project and see if we can get the funding...any offer is better than no offer.

Registered in there just to see the guidelines, I found what I was afraid of..
"What is not allowed?" ---> "Kickstarter cannot be used to fund software projects not run by the developers themselves."

The way I see it, that is the end and the beginning of things here..
"Acquire Winamp application / source code and rights to distribute it freely" is not going to work..

What may work would be something like "Acquire Winamp and develop it into a more complete and flexible player, closer to the community´s needs and full of long waited features (based on official wishlist)" (and then prepare the full project "revamp of Winamp" dressing it like a really different / better Music player, in the line of new tendencies and fully compatible / integrated with new technologies, from Win8 to Social networks and communications-).

Or, in the other hand, there is the "free willy" project: "Acquire Winamp application / source code and re-develop it into a flexible Open source Media player ready to be given to the community" (without further implication in the process, just the "give away"). Something like that.. I don´t know if this fits all Kickstarter requirements..
In particular, with the above statement.. just thinking out loud.. DrO is one developer of Winamp (stated as such in the v5.66 really sad credits), but is not the owner.. so, even if he would like to be part of this, don´t know how it would work..

Guidelines & Requirements - Kickstarter

(PS: Maybe this should be turned into a proper thread..)
(PS 2: There is a 3rd option, which includes Mister J.F. in person... but now I´m REALLY dreaming out loud..)

I did not. the link was to just a generic page, and I saw little value in it.
