Switching between playing mp3 and midi sets Winamp volume low
Let's say my volume for Winamp is set at 50%; as long as I play .mp3 files, this stays as it is. As soon as I play a .mid file, however, the sound level is set to 6 (?!).
This is extremly annoying, plz advice. |

This issue has been around for decades. A simple search query would have given you the solution. The default configuration for the midi plug-in causes this volume change. Change the device option in the configuration to "DirectMusic / Microsoft Synthesizer (with output)". It also wouldn't hurt to set the volume control option to none and clear the "use as logarithmic" box.
Would you mind telling me why you're still using midi files? Windows 11 Home 64-bit v22H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

I'm still using midis because I've large collection of them gathered back in the day, and I also like the unique qualities of the format. Same reason I still listen to .vgz files (video game music, mostly for sega megadrive) and .mod files, really. |

Yeah, your username can be taken in various ways.
![]() You can ask one of the forum moderators (send a private message) to change it for you, if you want. I stopped playing midi files years ago, but I still listen to mods from time to time. Windows 11 Home 64-bit v22H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |
