metal ughh!

so i'm trying to airbrush metal. no filters. the results aren't so great. any tips?

No filters at all???

It could use some texture, but if youre not gonna be using filters it's gonna be a painstaking process with the airbrush and darken and lighten tool.

i dont think i have any filters that could really help. i've got eye candy, but that wouldn't help, it would do it for me. what filters would you recomend?

i wanted to do it w/o filters like jason, but i guess, i'm not good enough. oh well. thanks for those tuts atmo. they really helped. i'm getting some sweet stuff now.

Looks great blackdog.

I like to use a combination of filters and airbrushing for metal effects. I just dont have a steady enough hand to use an airbrush with a mouse and create something from scratch.

Maybe if i invested in a pressure sensitive tablet it might be different, or i could invest that money in a new 21" monitor...

I know which one i'd rather...

for some reason, this skin reminds me of devart. there seem to be a ton of dark metal skins at that site

another thing, where you want to highlight an area on the metal i usually add some white using the airbrush and smudge it in using about a 3->4 pixel brush [all on the same layer].

Looking very nice, BlackDog.

Might be a little complicated for the beginner Winamp user, though. But frankly, in my opinion, if you're a beginner Winamp user, you should be using the base skin and know nothing about other skins until later. At least, that's what happened to me.

If I were you...I'd make the claw that's coming up from the EQ on the right hand side sit in front of the other claw...it would make it kinda interlock...otherwise I really like this skin.

this will be a fantastic skin, too

I don't like your light direction on the metal though, it comes directly from above (90°), that's not too realsitic imho, you should add a bit white highlighting (like pm said) on the upper part of the "claws".

(Don't like the blue, too)

i messed with the airbrush to add highlights. i completely forgot about the eq sliders when i was drawing this skin. how bad does this look w/ the sliders over the "claw"? if this looks as bad as i think it does, i may try to drop the bottom of the claw thing into the pl title bar, so that it wont interfere with the sliders

DK: someone gave me the link to the pinoy7 tuts a while back, i found them really helpful, so now i recomend anyone using psp to check em out.

Bobo:I was right.That is a blurred airbrush.What I meant was that it can also be done using the Lighting effects filter.

i think the blue doesnt really go along with the rest of the metal claws. maybe there needs to be some soft of pattern in the bg, something simple to upset the plain blue. the cbuttons look out of place in the way they sit and alternate sizes too. but its still quite a fair skin so far.

Its nice, but i think the one button thats in the middle, its behind the 2 claws and i can barely see it. Maybe put it above the claws? And maybe the buttons need a slightly increased ammount of contrast?

should be working on a physics lab but...
i'm not sure about the background. i tried some lighting effects and stuff, but i really didn't decide on anything, so i'm leaving it as is for the time being.
i'm still going to mess around with the airbrush on the metal, but right now i'm just focusing on the layout.

The layout looks ok, not sure about how the titlebar buttons will go on though.

Maybe this one might be better as a WA3...it'd allow more freedom for you to expand with the eq, as IMO the sliders just dont flow with the rest of the curved shapes.

It'll make a kickass wa2 skin if you do get it right though blackdog.

i dont know what else to do for the eq sliders. they have to be big and bulky, because they are going over the metal on both ends of the eq. maybe i'll think of something...
