Winamp for OS X

Ok, so I made the "switch" ... but I miss my Winamp! There is a version for OS9, but I don't want to run my mac in "Classic" mode.

Currently working to get fink installed so I can run xmms - but I could sure use Winamp.

Winamp:Mac has long been abandoned. It's probably never going to happen for OS X.

There was a program called Macamp, but that was in the pre-WA2 days, and not many updates since then. I think it's been taken over by another company, however.

WA5 for Mac! By all means, iTunes needs a competitor.

WIN stands for Windows, a GUI in which stacked, resizable, movable rectangles represent applications and files. It was first developed by Macintosh for Mac OS, later stolen for the 'Windows' series by Microsoft, and they got the name "Windows," which was already in common use, trademarked by <censored>.

Yes, but Apple did a good job of jacking it.

That came out really wrong. Point - Apple rules, Winamp5 for OS-X would own the world.

Then go make your own thread.

Actually, since OS X is BSD, and can run X applications, maybe Linux and OS X versions could share the same code.

We can only hope.

Someone should just take the winamp code and rework it to fit OSX, then give it back to nullsoft, asking 'em to publish it.

That would involve getting the sourcecode first and i don't think nullsoft will give this to anyone

Mac OS X has the X11 windowing system biult in which is suppost to make porting Linux apps to Mac excruciatingly easy. I would personally love to see Winamp 5 for Mac OS X. But getting the source code will be near impossible.

strangely enough i think that will be the case since financially there's a lot of investment in the winamp code which the *owners* of the code wouldn't be too happy on giving out for free.

Linux, Mac OS X, etc... yes it would be nice to have but it's not going to happen. there's only really two people working on winamp now amongst other work they have to do so you can't expect them to near enough re-write winamp to support various platforms. no wait, Winamp3 was aimed to eventually do that but people bitched about it etc so you can start blaming them for killing the real chance of it ever happening.

_just_ hope something comes from wasabi player to fill the gap.

so to summarise...

Winamp 5.x will *not* be ported to Linux, etc nor will the source code be released FACT.
