How do I rip mixed CDs as a single file?

You know, like CDex does with "rip a section". I need to produce single large files so that they will play back on portable devices without gaps. This is not a question about gapless playback in Winamp, but about gapless ripping for other players.

Load the CD into the Playlist Editor window.
Set up any gapless/crossfade options if required, and listen to a few transitions to make sure it's what you want.

Set your output to Nullsoft Disk Writer( Prefs > Output Plugins) and configure 'Single file mode'.
Press 'Play', you won't hear anything, but should end up with one large WAV file in the folder you configured.

Remember to switch back to DirectSound output at this point

Now send the WAV to 'Format Converter' in the usual way.

You could avoid this step by using 'Convert to format' in the Disk Writer, but I wouldn't reccommend it as you will be restricted to system codecs only, rather than the far better quality ones used in 'Format Converter'
