Cannot batch auto tag files with no ID3 tag
Media Library:
Nullsoft Auto-Tagger v2.03 [ml_autotag.dll] will not update filenames not in ascii right click on them -> sent to auto tagger -> after they're recognized -> click apply for file that have no id3v1/v2, tag is not saved however, alt+3 -> auto tag, the new tag is added with no problem [Edit --> DJ Egg] I can't reproduce this with any of my unicode filename/tags sample files. We would need a link to a sample file which exhibits the problem. Last edited by moo.tinys; 28th February 2009 at 08:26. |

bad media menu rendered
only reproduced with "media library uses same font as playlist editor" and "use skinned menus". it's arial i guess, in modern skin settings but i'm not sure, it's the default one
[Edit --> DJ Egg] Hmm... weird. I can't reproduce this. Anyone else? |

It seems the bug I reported in previous builds is still there! Its the bug with replay gain values not being saved to m4a files & possibly other formats too.
Previous post about the problem: Replay Gain Bug Report - Winamp Forum [Edit --> DJ Egg] The sample file you provided is actually a 3GP file. The issue is that no metadata fields are being saved for it, not just RG. If you'd reminded us sooner, e.g. during 5.55 public beta stage, then we might've looked into it again. But hopefully we'll be able to address it for the next release. I'm not sure about being able to save RG values for 3gp, but Artist, Album, Title, Genre & Year should at least be working... |

Re: Cannot batch auto tag files with no ID3 tag
i'm sorry, i corrected my reply but missed something.
"will not update filenames not in ascii is" wrong while "for file that have no id3v1/v2, tag is not saved" is true. reproduce it the bug: alt+3 on a mp3 file, uncheck id3v1/v2 to delete the tag, press ok and save it to mp3, now no tags is in mp3 1. no matter what, if you alt+3, click autotag, save -> ok, because winamp will always create/overwrite id3v1/v2 tag in this case 2. id3v1 tag but without v2 tag in mp3 file. rightclick->send->autotag->apply, -> only id3v1 tag is "updated", v2 tag not created 3. id3v2 tag but without v1 tag in mp3 file. rightclick->send->autotag->apply, -> only id3v2 tag is "updated", v1 tag not created 4. no id3v1 nor v2 tag in mp3 file. rightclick->send->autotag->apply, no tag is is "updated" cuz there's no tag. they're not created |

Re: bad media menu rendered
Quote:
1. uncheck "General preferences" -> playlist -> "use skin or language pack font", and use font "Arial" 2. check "media library uses same font as playlist editor" 3. check "use skinned menus" i'm sure it's arial font that cause the problem playlist use font arial -> "media library uses same font as playlist editor" -> "use skinned menus" -> and now the menu is using arial font i can't read korean characters (shown as squares/rectangles) with arial font btw. it's fine with "use skin or language pack font" enabled, which let skin fall back to simsun |

Hmm, although I still can't reproduce the problem when using plain Arial font (I see just squares instead of eg. Japanese chars), you don't want to be using Arial for Unicode support. You'd need to use a font like Arial Unicode MS instead.

Hello,
...since Winamp version 5.55, I can not use Advanced Visualization Studio v2.82 anymore. Each time I try to start it, it crashes Winamp. I'm pretty sure (not 100%, maybe I skipped one or two versions) that the previous version of Winamp didn't show that behaviour and started that plugin (though I don't know which version of the plugin was included with the previously installed version of Winamp) Regards, derJörg P.S.: I wish I knew how to provide more information (crash reports, log files, mini dumps, etc.), but I don't know where to look for additional info... I'm using the BigBento Skin...that's the only special thing that comes to my mind - so, how to provide more (useful) info? |

Version: Winamp 5.551 (Mar 9 2009)
Skin: Winamp Classic OS: Windows 7 b7022 x86 System Specs: ASUS Board, Athlon X2 6000+, 4gb (only 3.5 usable, obviously) Video Card: GeForce 8800 GTX, NVidia drivers from 1/19/2009 Sound Card: Onboard, dunno DirectX Version: 11 Plugin: gen_ml 3.26 I guess? When I click on the Local Media>>Audio, all the song listings go bold as if I was low on memory. I rebooted and the problem still persists. Other skins work fine (Modern and Big Bento). This wasn't a problem in 5.54 or whatever I just upgraded from. |

Same details as above, but the problem-plugin is one of the following:
ml_pmp pmp_njb pmp_p4s This has been an issue ever since the pmp_* plugins came out. When syncing with my Creative Vision M, Winamp will try to copy songs over that already exist on the player. I found it reported here as well: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=2484008 You can see by the screenshot I attached that it's not just files with special characters like "/". Thanks! |

The bold issue doesn't reproduce on XP, and I don't have access to a Vista machine, sorry.
My Sync settings: (o) Update selected playlists only (none are selected) Podcast sync is turned off. [x] Update all songs from my Local Media Library Query: type=0 Auto-Sync is turned off. Also, I'm not sure why the URL I posted just shows "URL submitted by user", but here's the other report of my problem: forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=2484008 |

Winamp 5.551 (5.5.5.2419) - clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
Problem occurs in All Skins Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit Mother Board: XFX nForce 780i 2-Way SLI Video: GeForce GTX 280 DirectX version: 10 problem associated with vis_avs.dll [v2.82] Winamp Crashes (Only Windows Error Message Shown) on certain AVS visulisations (Both official release and user made). Further investigation shows that any visulisation that attempt to set or get to the Mega Buffer (megabuf(n)) or Global Mega Buffer (Gmegabuf(n)) immediately halts the winamp interface. Oddly enough, although all controls in the AVS editor and Winamp Interface freeze, music continues to play normally. |

I have found a bug in the AVS editor. If you create a "custom BPM" in a visualization, the selector sticks on the first selection, "Arbitrary". If you select a different one, both radio buttons light up, but the setting remains on arbitrary. I am running XP sp2 and have reproduced this bug on two separate PCs.

Playlist from playlist generator with mixed types doesn't play all
Winamp 5.551 clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
Winamp Language English US Skin: first observed in Bento - no difference in other skins I tried. Windows OS, Vista SP1 (up to date as of March 31/09) System specs (mobo:?? - Dell D830 laptop, cpu: Intel core 2 Duo 2.2GHz, ram:4GB) Video Card: Intel 965 Sound Card: built in DirectX version DX10 Plugin (and version) affected by/causing the bug: Nullsoft playlist generator v1.2 A full, detailed, step-by-step method of reproduction: My music library contains various file types including MP3 and WMA files. When I use the playlist generator to create a playlist "Play Files Similar To ...", only the MP3 files in the resulting list will play. In addition the wma files do not display any length information. However I can play the same files regardless of type if I choose them from the media library, or if I use Play->File (etc.) One exception - if the first file of the generated list is WMA then it will play and show file length - but no other WMA files in the list will play. Have tried "reset" and new scan of the files - no change. The analysis phase moves very quickly and makes me suspicious. The attached image shows a portion of such a playlist. All the files displaying a length are MP3, the others are WMA. |

Playlist generator does not recognize all the files in my library
Winamp 5.551 (5.5.5.2419) - clean install (with NO 3rd-party plugins)
Skin: Bento, but probably does not matter Windows Vista 64-bit SP1 HP dv7-1132nr, specs here ATI Radeon 3200HD, Driver version 9.3 IDT integrated audio card, Driver version unknown to me DirectX version 10 Plugin ml_plg.dll - Playlist Generator I have been trying to get this plugin to work for the past week. I performed the original scan and it detected all 9145 tracks in my library, read the metadata of all them, but once it reached the analysis step, the tracks had been cut down to somewhere just over 5000. I thought this just may have been from my live music, which was in flac format, but I could generate playlists with those files in them too. Eventually I got the "playlist generator failed to initialize" so I had to rescan my library. This scan, however, came up with only 403 tracks to analyze, of the original 9145 scanned. Even after a clean reinstall, I still get random numbers for the analysis step. I don't know much about how this plugin works, but I think it should definitely notice more than that many as viable tracks for playlist generation. I also won't mind throwing in a screenshot if necessary, although all I told you is just about it. There aren't any other errors that I receive, nor do I know if I can constantly reproduce the situation, as it seems to change. |

Winamp crash when using enqueue ...
I had this problem before ... but first the specs:
Winamp 5.5.5.2419 (clean install, no 3rd party plugins) Language : English Skin : Classic OS : Windows XP SP2/English I reproduced this "bug" on two systems: 1. Gigabyte P35-S3G/Intel Quad Core 2 Q6600 2.4GHz/2048MB RAM/Gigabyte GeForce 8500GT/Creative SB! Live Value and/or OnBoard Sound Card/DirectX 9.0c. 2. Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G Rev.4/Celeron 2.8GHz/2048MB RAM/ ATI RADEON 9250/Creative SB! Live Value and/or OnBoard Sound Card/DirectX 9.0c. No antivirus installed. No Creative software installed except the sound driver (basic installation, no additional Creative Suite/Media Center and stuff). Doesn't matter which sound card I use (the onboard one or the Creative) on either system, the "bug" still persists. I am playing only mp3s and flacs (the playlist is around 16k titles, default formatting titles). Plugin : gen_jumpex.dll v1.0.4 (Build 767) The problem : When I press "Q" on the keyboard (with playlist being the active window) every few seconds (at least 4-5) nothing bad happens. If I press "Q" a little bit faster (every 2-3 seconds), the selected item is added to playlist (at the end) instead of queue. If I press "Q" even faster (as fast as I can type), I get : "Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Details : "AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.5.2419 ModName: gen_jumpex.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00002fda". On all three cases it doesn't matter if the selected item it's the same or not, nor where am I in the playlist (in the end or the beginning). A while ago I was unable to use enqueue at all (threadid=301690) - an internal build at that time solved the problem in the sense that it didn't crash at all (winamp v5.5.4.2165 + gen_jumpex.dll v0.99.4 build 749). Later on I discovered the thing with added items on playlist instead of queue, but I was happy to be able to use Enqueue, so that was only a little annoying. I've also tried winamp 5.5.5.2419 + gen_jumpex.dll v0.99.4 build 749 ... but the "bug" curiously persists ... so I'm not sure if it's a plugin "bug" or core "bug" or something in between ... I've learned to be patient so this is not a "critical" bug, but you might want to look into this because the added items to playlist instead of queue thing perpetuates from gen_jumpex.dll v0.99.4 build 749 and at some point perhaps it will become "critical". Also I have to mention that if I have reasonable amount of titles in playlist (around 1-2k), all is good, no crashes, no added items to playlist. Thank you. |

I was just wondering is there anyway I can be notified as to when the replaygain bug is likely to be fixed, as I don't want to have to keep installing new versions each time they are released only to find the bug is still present.
EDIT: Well it appears since installing the lateset version, clean uninstalling it, then reinstalling the version that worked fine, I'm now getting error windows showing. The file causing the problem is gen_ff.dll |

Read the "Winamp 5.xx Released" thread in the Winamp Discussions forum first.
If it's not mentioned in the changelog there, then it's not in. v5.551 & v5.552 are just minor security patch releases for 5.55 The next proper upgrade will (probably) be 5.56 Also note that it's not a simple fix for your 'replaygain bug' because those files are actually 3gp files, not standard m4a/aac files, and we only have limited support for 3gp at the moment. We attempted to implement better support (in the current internal 5.56 beta builds), but it caused more problems, so we've reverted it until we can find a better/different solution. ps. I've no idea what's causing your (newly reported) gen_ff crash, or even what it's about. |

Ok thank you for you're help DJ Egg. Wouldn't using the previous replaygain dll from the build it worked with be ok or is that what is causing the problems in the lastest beta build? Don't worry about the gen_ff problem, I managed to fix it myself, I had to uninstall everything & reinstall it all again. So I think I will be sticking with v5.531 until I know the problem is fixed.

Hmm... interesting.
I guess we'll have to take a look at in_mp4.dll & libmp4v2.dll from 5.531 and see what's changed to make it not work with those same files in newer builds. My fault for not reading the previous reports again properly. I just assumed that it didn't work, not that it used to work but no longer does.... ![]() More than likely it's because before we just treated all mp4/m4a files the same (where writing metadata was concerned), but we then implemented better support for 3gp files... which I guess is where the problem lies... |

Language Pack: None Clean install with no 3rd party plugins Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins OS: Windows XP SP3 Locale: English US CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ Memory: 2GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio DirectX 9.0c Problem: Year info from ID3v2 tags is not read into the media library. I discovered this when I noticed a lot of new MP3s I had added to my library were not showing a year. I checked the individual files and they had the correct year listed in the tags. I did a re-scan of my watch folders, but the years did not update. So then I tried selecting the context menu option to read metadata for files that were not showing a year. This didn't work. I checked the metadata for all my MP3s in three different tagger programs and verified they had years present. The year is present for bot the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag of each MP3 file. I then experimented with the settings for the MP3 decoder input plugin. I found that if I enabled only reading of ID3v1 tags, Winamp will correctly import the year from the MP3 files into the media library. If the option to read ID3v2 tags is enabled, regardless of whether ID3v1 tag reading is enabled or disabled, Winamp will not correctly read the year into the media library. the year data is always blanked from the media library in those cases, if it was already present. [Edit --> DJ Egg Egg] We can't reproduce this. Please supply us with a link to an mp3 file which exhibits the problem. |

EWeiss: it's already listed in the known bugs thread and the thread where the issue was discussed you'd also replied in. and what's in 5.552 is the same as what was in 5.55 as 5.551 and 5.552 have only been for security updates and afaik no one has looked into the avs issue (i know i haven't since the little time i've got for winamp related coding currently is going on my own plugins).

Bug with small MP3 files
For some small MP3 files, in_mp3 cuts off the very beginning of them and displays a encoder delay in MPEG info.
Sample file attached (some short, german bus stop announcement). [Edit --> DJ Egg] It plays fine for me. Maybe your out_ds buffer-ahead/cut-off values are too high? |

It does play, but it cuts off the first two syllables (It says "traße", where it actually should say "Pfälzerstraße").
Windows Media Player plays it fine. It has nothing to do with the DirectSound-Buffer, as the issue does occur also when out_wave is selected, the buffer is reduced, and even when sending it to the Format Converter to convert it to WAV. (Don't try to convert it to M4A as 32 kHz doesn't seem to work). [Edit --> DJ Egg] Ahh, right! Okay! D'oh! |

Thanks! But consider that I cannot exactly decide whether it is just that file that has maybe a bad header or so, or whether it is a mistake in Winamp. I got hundreds of those files, but only this one plays wrong... Bot on the other hand, WMP plays also this one right...

Winamp 5.552
Language Pack: None Clean install with no 3rd party plugins Minimal install (only the audio&video playback plugins and the DirectSound output plugin, which is mandatory). OS: Windows XP SP3 Locale: English US Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio DirectX 9.0c A volume control issue when playing flv files: start playing a flv file and set the winamp volume to a low setting (just to softly hear the song); close winamp; start it again by playing the flv file (double click it); winamp will play the song at a higher volume than the current setting (or more probably, the current volume setting in adobe flash player); clicking the winamp volume button at the current position (don't move it) will reset the volume intensity to the correct (selected) setting. flv files used for tests (save them from the browser cache): flv1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58UW9gm-BU0 flv2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j5zq...eature=related others: check youtube ![]() Interestingly, the winamp volume control is not bugged when playing flv1 when using the beta 5.55 2353 en-us. Also, with this beta, and only when playing flv1, I can use my favorite DSP plugin (Enhancer 0.17). The current final version and all other (older) final versions fail on all tested flv files on proper volume control and Enhancer has no effect (including flv1). When the volume control is bugged and Enhancer is not having an effect, by checking the DirectSound Output plugin, I see that it reports "not active" in the Status tab. |

Milkdrop [all versions]:
If I press F7 to relead the custom messages from the milk2_msg.ini, the visualization freezes for several hundred miliseconds. That's very annoying, because I have an application that displays the song text in real time in MilkDrop. Can you please fix this. |
