Really disapointed with AOL/NSV
So I saw this banner ad on a karaoke site I frequent...
![]() Thing that disappoints i've been doing this on NSV way before this guy, I was there in 2004. This guy broadcasts on stickam.com yet he gets karaoke label sponsorship. I heard the stickam folks worked to find this guy sponsors... Did he ever get stickam noticed by the New York Times? http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/01/te...hat-mouse.html Outside of just providing me with a server and a small mention on the winamp site, I never got as much as this guy got. I compare this guy's viewership to mine. He's definitely got way more people watching him on stickam. Probably because stickam/flash video works on everything. AOL had such a big head start. Here I am debating if I should drop it too. Hell, most of my 1st gen nullsoft friends have moved on (cept craigf, he's still around). Most of my 2nd gen friends that got laid off in the last round of layoffs are moving off. I know Benski, but we haven't talked in ages and most of these 3rd gen folks, I don't know them at all. So what's left here for me besides a free server (which I can get at stickam or justin.tv) Can anyone answer that for me? Sorry to be so rantish. |

AOL / Shoutcast certainly did have the head start, but I believe they lost the true driving force behind NSV when Justin and the original crew left.

Shoutcast lead developer asked me if I had code they could use to make a flash web player for the aac radio stations, since I have a nsv aac player.
There is a small chance that NSV could gain notoriety because there is no free h264 encoder to legally use with red5. Red5 accepts the nsv ecoder connection. If/When the flv packets are formated correctly from the nsv pay-loads, there would be a flock of people jumping over just to get h264+aac broadcasting to the browser. I've voiced my opinion over and over on the death of shoutcast tv. By the way, I have developed streaming from red5 to silverlight, so by proxie, silverlight can play back nsv/shoutcast streams now too. h264 Video forth coming. |

Sounds great, but yeah, its the same old issues time and time again, people have flash installed, and little else
![]() It isnt even like html5 video support is going to bring forth h264 support. shame really. |
