edit: decided 2000 lines of text was a bad idea in a single post. if anyone actually wants my playlist, PM me and i can send you. almost all of the 2000 songs were ripped by me. which is just scary.

Ripping is easier then downloading. About 400 of my list were ripped by me. The rest came from unknown sources, but of course I might have all the CD's....

hi there...new winamp member here. I was told that there is a way to convert the playlist to a text format. is this true? if so, how can I convert my list to a text file?

When I was running Windows 2000 Pro. I was running WinAmp2.95 naturlly, and I had the Mini Browser going. When I pressed Ctrl+Alt+G(Generate HTML Playlist) the list came up in the Minibrowser. When I tried to copy paste into WinAmp Forums it didnt paste so I had to close the Minibrowser so teh HTML List could load in windows Explorer. This might happen for you but I doubt it its probably some bug with my WinAmp, but just in case it happens.

I own 600 CD's but haven't played one for 2+ years. I'm considering boxing the lot up.

I'm not worried Merlin. MP3 compatible software will be around for years to come. When the next digital format comes (and it surely will) I'll use that for new music.
It's all personal choice - you have your 20th century compact-disc (with 10 tracks on it). I have my 21st century database, complete with everything you could want.

So what's the deal with downloading MP3's now? I read something on Slashdot about them only being able to prosecute people that SHARED MP3s, and not people that downloaded them? Any ideas?

Well, if nobody shared then no-one could download! p2p requires sharing does it not?

No. With Kazaa, for instance, you can disable sharing. As you say though, that kind of defeats the point

squarepusher are great. i like autechre as well, just don't have any stuff why are you surprised?

the clint mansell stuff i have is the soundtrack to requiem for a dream. i'd highly recommend it, along with the soundtrack to pi, which he also did.

I have 3 Autechre albums - for the most part it's just random noise. I'll probably end up deleting it all. Squarepusher and Plaid are similar - quite harsh, sterile electronic noise. I took you for a guitar man, that's all. The above bands are the extremity of electronica.

Have you heard any Pole albums? At a first listen they sound random, but after a second you realise it's very well crafted. Taxi from Pole 3 was used on a Jeans advert (the dirty jeans, people crawling around in dirt). Crap advert & product, great tune.

Anyway, I'm not optimistic about getting any Clint Mansell material. It's a bit on the scarce side.
