"SYSTRAY?, we don't need no stinking SYSTRAY!".

I rarely use windows

But this would be the equivalent and if I wanted to choke my computer with TSRs, I could add some applets.

I think Lu has the right idea so far.

Gnome, but it's not systray. I love the smell of a command line in the morning!.

Edit: there I just deleted the date applet, so it's all gone. If I need to know what stinking day it is, I'll look at my analog watch.

Yeah, fluxbox is a little light, but it's great if you have a "vintage" computer. I use it on an oooold thinkpad I have. 486 DX4/75Mhz. It will browse the web. Ubuntu underneath, it has a whopping 64 megs of ram and a 300 meg hard drive.

It's often quite bloated, mainly with Firefox windows, but don't mind it otherwise as it's faster to sort through the windows in the task bar than to get confused with tabs (fives times faster even, often within a second). I've had close to twice as many windows shown here and the most "condensed". It happens when I've got several things going on at once - browsing the forums, updating my website, making images in GIMP. I ran msconfig to clean up unneccessary startup items (such as reminders to register for things I've already registered for and the printer). Because I run at 1600x1200, I almost certainly have to use a link instead of an image.

Bleh, Norton.

Not a whole lot going on there. I'm quite fond of the deskbar (although Beagle still needs some improvement).

OK, OK, so I needed one thing on the panel.

http://retrovision*****wp-content/upl...reenshot-2.png

And Amarok sticks itself on the panel, if it's running.

Not only do I not always use windows, it's a crapshoot as to whether or not i'm running X at any given time.

Oh, I should have explained my systray items too. I forgot.

Here goes:

It was 12:00pm when I took the screenshot. High noon. Gunfightin' time. Exactly 720 minutes into the day. Oh-twelve-hundred hours. Twelvo clocko.

AND if I hover the pointer in the right place, I find out it's also Saturday, August 19, 2006.

That's everything about my systray.

Wow. I'm really suprised we've gotten this far without people going nuts about the correct "notification area" bit.

I'm too lazy to do the work, so I'll explain.
Clock, day of week, date, external hard drive safely remove hardware icon, networking icon, mcaffe icon, and windowblinds icon, and that's all for now.

Don't forget to live before you die.

because that's what the functions in the Win32API (or may be the tutorial) sound like while programming for the systray (or notifier or whatever)...
