I think it would cost more at first but less in the long run to donate birth control rather than the usual food. Food is good, and should be donated too, but the problem is that there are too many mouths and not enough food in some areas.

Telling others to get less children doesn't go over too well though. Especially if it comes from somebody from the country with the highest resource use per capita.

jus' sayin'

Besides, economic inequality is far bigger than the difference in birth rates.

i support ted's view, yes... it sounds harsh and inhuman, but it is a simple equation of mouths vs. food, global warming destroyed the economy, goverments destroyed the economy, and if we don't take drastic measures, entire populations will just vanish and world wars will begin over food and shelter, it's just a matter of time, time that is spent in much less important places... it's in human nature to talk and talk and talk but not practice (yes, i have it too), and what happens is that we tell ourselves that everything is ok while it's going downhill, and you wake up too late to act.

Economic inequality is indeed a huge problem, especially when there's not much difference between a hard-working low-paid person vs. a hard-working high-paid person (or worse yet someone that gets paid a lot that doesn't work all that hard).

I suggest birth control awareness not to tell people not to procreate, but to give them the option and resources necessary if they feel in their own minds that they're not ready to support a family. Someone else's choice to procreate is none of my business in my opinion, but educating people on how that's more choice than chance could help a lot.

Don't forget to live before you die.

The problem isn't so much unawareness but resistance though, partly caused by religious views (that shouldn't be too unfamiliar to you) but also by anything that could be seen as an outside attempt to weaken the people by lessening its numbers.

But the real problem is that people will only have less children if they already see a perspective for themselves. Those who have nothing to lose anyway might as well breed like rabbits, plus often having lots of kids is the only way they can gain some sense of achievement and self-worth at all.

sadly, yes... our perspective of right and wrong in the world differs upon so many things, religion, etiquette, personal logic/belief, parenting, even if you could persuade people in your city that birth control is the solution to world hunger, you'd most likely be a minority which makes your efforts insufficient.

let's give purpose to this dying forum and suggest our solutions to world hunger, i still am up for the birth control and maybe even going to a field and plant all kinds of food

It would be possible to produce more than enough food for everybody, but not at a profit.
As long as food is mainly a commodity, the only solution is ongoing globalization until essentially all the world's population (including today's first world middle class) will be at a basic working class level of just having enough to live and reproduce.
And then maybe they'll finally unite and take over.

Sticking with Mubarak certainly won't solve their economic problems either.

Besides, they're way past asking for food (else Blair & co. could simply promise some financial breadcrumbs and everybody would return home).
No, Tunisia showed them that they don't have to put up with an autocratic government and all the things that go hand in hand with it (rampant corruption, censorship, you name it), that they're not as powerless as others would make them believe.

Of course they may also, after shouting "yes we can", expect the new government to solve all problems for them and then moan about the inevitable backlash, like some other people...

What's really telling though is the reaction of the west's self-proclaimed champions of democracy once the people actually starts taking matters into its own hands.

It will, you'll just have to murder some people. After they get through murdering some people, it'll be chicken and potato salad. Heck. Ya just can get through a good popular revolt without killing a million...... Lenin and Stalin killed a hundred fifty million.... We all know how great that worked out.

This video, in your left wing sense, might give you a teaser.

http://www.archive.org/details/ThePowerOfNightmares

Yeah, they did coat Sayed Kutb in bacon and fed him to a German Shepherd, but hell, if Sayed had his way, he would have killed about 7 million people..... blowing dams on the delta...

Somehow thats the fault of Americans "near" and "neo" conservatives. You should actually watch this for a factual account. Even, a "lib" San Franciscan like you, should understand how idiotic the conclusions drawn are.

I'm gonna actually say that Hillary and her broom have a more sensible attitude than what comes out of the White House.

Except for the crucial point that it isn't luck, that it doesn't require the helping hand of a creator (and in fact the whole universe probably doesn't*).

^ I believe in God, in my way. But I believe in evolution and am not a "Creationist". I don't think the Bible is literal (either old or new Testatment) I allow others may have a different point of view. I think Bill ORLY is just stupid. Really, really stupid.(Like Sarah Palin) I think G-Man's argument was clear. That's just me.
