OK gods and goddesses. I am Pretty good with graphic design. It's my proffession. But... I suck horridly with xml. I am looking for someone that wants to do some XML for me. I would create every single peice of winamps graphics. ALL Of them. And hand then over to Said Xml god to be applied. In return, I would also Make them any graphic Design they want. weather it be another skin ( all components included) or a webpage, or whatever. Doesnt matter. For a quick peek at my work Check out http://macher-vod-tot.deviantart.com/ PLease hit me up with an email. or responce or whatever if you are interested. I know if i team up with the right coder, we can make one helluva wicked skin! Keep rockin!

Well, I am DEFINATELY not a god, but I think I could probably at least attempt it for you. Can you post an image of at least the main window, and possibly some of the buttons as well?

Well, I can first say that XML is a more strict markup language than HTML, but if you know a little HTML, you can start off with that as a basic knowledge. XML is also as I said, a markup language, but it have more strict syntax (XHTML is the strict version of HTML which uses the same rules as XML).

The most important rules of XML is to define the right char-set, closing all open tags, and to make all attruibutes like this:

RIGHT
code:

<!-- tag closed with closing tag -->
<tag attribute="value">content</tag>

<!-- Closing tags that don't have content, like images -->
<!-- and linebreaks. Closed using a single slash at -->
<!-- the end of tag instead of a separate closing tag -->
<tag attribute="value" />

WRONG
code:
<tag attribute=value>
<tag attribute="value">
<tag attribute=value>content</tag>

THE RULES FOR WASABI XML

THE MAKI DOCUMENTATION
http://www.winamp.com/nsdn/winamp/sk...g/docs/std.mi/

MAKI is a programming language much like C and it's compiled! Whey (which makes i much faster)

If you're unsure yet, go look at the tutorial either at http://www.winamp.com or at http://www.frisbeemonkey.com

It's never a bad thing too learn. It's fun and you get better understanding in how computers work, so it seems to me.
It's not hard either. Coding a skin might take quite some time though, however making the graphics does too.

Out of all the coding languages i've come across XML seems to the most logical one yet.

from what languages do you think of? XML is markup and can never stand alone...

I tried to learn Php and ASP a while ago and it just didn't seem to make any sense but XML just seemed to click with me. Obviously i had a few problems though.

XML isn't a programming/scripting language... you cannot do any commands with it. It's markup, which defines the hierarchy of something, maybe a database, maybe a document like HTML, maybe something else. ASP and PHP you have functions which handles data, and you can transform, create and read data. Do opererations on conditions.

XML cannot do anything more than the source of this document... on the server, this source looks completly different.

The language that transforms data in Winamp is MAKI, and it's implemented functions when you write the correct XML, winamp will read this and do the operations per applications. It's not the XML that do the functions in winamp. It's the winamp application.

As an example take a look at this link:

http://www.aocore.com/test/

As you can see, one can choose a language to display the page. The page is the exact same file no matter what language or style you choose. The languages are read out of a file on the server and added to the HTML document when someone tries to access the document.

Here are the language files. They are all XML.

http://www.aocore.com/test/languages/

XML is just a general markup language you can use for almost anything that is small. But one MUST have a parser that translates the markup within the XML document. Alone, XML have no power.

The parser looks like this
