Days and days of simple game goodness. Probably a lot simpler than you're looking for, but no less fun.

I heard there is a free first person shooter out there. A decent one. By the navy, I think. I still like Sonic the Hedgehog better.

It's America's Army.

Pretty cool, only online multiplayer though. And the learning curve is a little severe because you only get one life per round (just like in real life), and WILL die early if you're new.

Am I the only one who finds the concept of America's Army a bit... disturbing. Its like the American government training tommorrows soldiers with a computer game.

I would go out on a fullfront america bashing here, but then i'd realize that winamp is owned by aol, the cola i drink comes from u.s.a., most of my computer parts probably come from somewhere there also...

America has invaded my life! aaaargh!

Ball Revamped IV, not exactly a "full blown" game, but enjoyable little flash game nevertheless.

It's not "like," that's basically the explicit reason for the game. It's a little strange when you first think about it, but the game is very well done. You actually learn things from the training missions, which are required before you go online. It's probably mentally better for a younger player--because it's very realistic (as much as a game can be.) When you shoot your commanding officers in the game, you are immediately sent to a "mission" in a military prison, and have only a small window, bed, and the music of an inmate's harmonica.

the unreal tournament 2004 demo is good and lets you play as much as you want for free. it is also very leenient on system resources. my computer runs it, and i dont believe it even has a proper video card. my connection also has its draw backs and it seems to run just fine. in fact ive been suprised to learn how many people with 56k play online successfully.

im not as much of a fan of first person shooters as everyone else seems to be. however, instagib ctf (a mode within ut2k4)is very balanced and as long as the players arent cheating (bots) gameplay is based all on reaction and skill. and omit digs this.

America's Army and Gunbound are both great games and totally free Although you can buy upgrades in Gunbound using real money, but I haven't done so yet.

S.W.I.N.E. has been released for free recently, Betrayal At Krondor is great and free. There are a lot of AGS adventure games that are great and free (Apprentice 1&2, Kings Quest remakes, and a bunch of others). Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe is free for a long time, Rockstar has released GTA, GTA 2 and Wild Metal Country for free (you can dl from their website), etc etc etc
