iPhone 3G

Hey everyone, just wanted to drop in and let everyone know that the new iPhone recognized just fine by ml_iPod. An upload of songs went fine, but I can't get to the iPod application just yet since Apple is having problems with activation at the moment. I'll update later.

[edit]
I spoke too soon. I just plugged the iPhone back in after ejecting it and when I open iTunes, it tells me there is an error with the iPod and that it has to restore the firmware. Joy.

[edit2]
Here's the error:
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone "iPhone". Got to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings"

I've got a regular, non 3G iPhone and the same thing. Once I upgraded to the 2.0 firmware, I noticed that while ml will copy stuff, and will even display it in Winamp's Media Library, the iPod app on the phone doesn't show anything and I get the same error upon starting iTunes. I then have to restore the device. Looks like 2.0 breaks compatibility with ml.

I'm getting the same thing on my iTouch with 2.0 firmware. Everything shows up in Winamp, but it shows no music from the iTouch. iTunes can't read it either.

Essentially bricked the ipod functionality of my 3g iphone. Had to restore. Someone should update ml_ipod's site with this information.

The lead programmer for ml_ipod had a baby recently, so he's a bit busy with more pressing matters. I'm sure there will be support down the line, but it may take some time.

PLeaseeeeeeee

PLeaseee we're begging for ml_ipod support with the new 2.0 sofware, it seems that the problems is not with the hardware (iPhone 3G, iPhone 1.0 or iPod Touch) but with the recently firmware upgrade 2.0 because I downgrade my iPhone 3G to 1.1.4 and ml_ipod worked perfectly. But almost 98% of us upgrade our iPhone to the new 2.0 software, so please heellpppppp we're left alone in the dark...

Couldn't you just downgrade the firmware until a solution if found?

ml_iPod 3.5 and iPod Touch v2.0

I also have experienced the problem with ml_iPod 3.5 and the iPod Touch 2.0. My music dB appears in winamp but nothing seems to allow it to be read on the Touch... I tried the reboot options described on the sourceforge website - but apparently, that does not work with the new version... has anyone had success with restoring the dB to the Touch or iPhone 3G???

Afaik the 2.0 firmware introduces a new (and potentially far more complex) hashing scheme than before. This has not yet been reverse engineered, so for the immediate future _no_ 3rd party software support is possible. Apple has literally tried every trick in the book to make it as hard as they possibly can this time around.

This is what I suspected :-(
Again they want to force everybody to use iTunes - because they make most money with the iTunes store, not with the iPods. Too bad for us.

Angry

It does, indeed, shaft my 3G's library.

Funnily enough I installed this software after breaking my home PC and needing to get some stuff off the ipod. Now I have no music at all and no PC with which to restore the old library. Oh and it probably means I have to re-PWN.

I really hope that ml_ipod will support iPhone 3G soon.

For now I'm using TouchCopy. I can listen and copy music form/to my iPhone.

Not only that, but they probably locked it down further so no 3rd party apps from the App Store can use it. I read an article yesterday about the app Tap Tap Revolution (previously a jailbreak app) having to use their own music since they can no longer access the iPod DB.

Unhappy

Perhaps it would be a good idea to put some sort of notice on the front page and download page. For every handful of people that come onto the forum, after the fact, to find out about this issue there will be scores of people who now have screwed iPhone3Gs and don't know what to do about it.

Just a FYI, until you hear something along the lines of "iPhone 2.0 DB hash cracked", support for the iPhone won't be forthcomming.

Cracking it invovles decompiling the raw ASM of itunes (included a fair dose of complex obfustication code) to determine the routines for generating the hash. It's a slow, by the hand, process.

Currently I know of only one person working on it. I'm still getting up to speed on x86 asm to help atm

My guess at an ETA? about a month or so until the hash is broken.

If the hashing scheme hasn't been broken, then how does TouchCopy work? Unless they figured it out and just won't tell anyone? :| The ipod hash wiki seems to be abandoned...diskaid works okay, but as you can see when you use it, all the music / video files are renamed to like FURH.mp3 etc (random 4 chars.filename) and you can only tell what they are by looking at the id3...so in order to get songs off of the ipod you have to copy everything over at once and then sort by id3. Fucking apple!!!!! Here's hoping steve jobs dies a slow painful death.

As far as I can see from their ads, Touch Copy can only copy music FROM the iTouch to the PC, not the other way.
Well, that direction is already possible with ml_ipod
We need to transfer music TO the iPod, and that's where the hashing algorithm is needed.

Yeah.
Lately, I found this bug in the Ubuntu bug tracker:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...od/+bug/252364
Apparently they have the same problems. Nobody seems to work on breaking that hashing algorithm, so we are definitely locked out from FW 2.x.

Seems Apple did a better job this time protecting their device from third party software. Too bad for us

One hint I found: Hash58 is now all set to zero. It seems that new hash is at 0x74 offset with size 44 bytes.

Well, not quite :

4. For 2.x firmware, file/media uploading doesn’t work properly. We’re just work on that.
Seems they are stuck at the same problem...
