Taken with the D200. Manual focus. Still learning it.

First image shows a bit of the galactic belt, with Jupiter near bottom right. Second is more of the galactic belt.

Third and fourth images are of URSA Major (Big Dipper) and URSA Minor (Little Dipper). The arrow shows how to find Polaris, the North Star, which is the tip end of the handle for the Little Dipper.

Don't think I've mentioned this yet, but as a graduation gift I received a new camera. Canon PowerShot A560. 7.1 mega pixels, 4x optical zoom. It's not a DSLR, but it seems like a good camera, but I really haven't had a chance to go and take any real photographs with it yet other than a few shots to test it out and play around with some of the features.

Nice ones.

(I never had much luck with auto focus for closeups either.)

Just wait 'till I can get a decent macro lens (alms? donation?)... Was having to lean back a bit to photograph those lilies.

I've kinda been wanting a telephoto zoom macro lens for mine as well. Saving my money for my truck right now, though. :\

I think if you just want macro you'll be better off with a dedicated 60-150mm prime macro lens.

Yeah, I kinda figured that would be the reaction I'd get with that lens. I didn't think it would hurt to ask, though. Thanks.

As it is, I kinda doubt I'll be buying any more photo gear in the near future because I've got to save my money for my truck anyways.

But I do have another question... Extension tubes. How well do those things actually work? Are they worth the money? Got any comparison shots, maybe?

Buy a big V-8 so that you won't need the macro lens to take pictures of your engine.

All photos taken with (I think) a 15 second exposure.

I need to take some more interesting photos sometime.

@Ted:
I think the V-8 is out for now. Maybe one day in the future.

Also, my new tripod case arrived this afternoon. It's actually quite nice. I think it'll work out rather well.

I just ordered a Pelican 1554 to replace my existing 1524. While I really like my 1524, my camera doesn't quite fit in it properly. With the battery grip installed on my camera body, the eggcrate foam in the case's lid presses down on the top of the camera a little harder than I'd like. The dividers are partitioned a little weird, too. Dad showed interest in this case for use as a handgun transport/storage case, so I ordered a 1521 Foam Set to replace the padded dividers with. I'll take the dividers and use them for extra pieces towards the new 1554 case that I just ordered.

I also just ordered a Pelican 1120 case as well. I'll be using this to transport/store my little Fuji point & shoot camera. The small leather case that it's in right now is showing its age.

Thanks man. I was told it would be printed August 1-6 and would receive several complimentary copies through the mail. (since I work in a frame shop) I'll probably end up framing one - just to give my ego an extra little kick in the ass.

at first, y, but ultimately, n

(unless it's one of the rare cases that don't simply look like "yet another infrared photo" (I have an IR filter but there's a reason I haven't uploaded any pics made with it yet))

IR Pictures are boring. Who wants a picture that has no color, just shades of gray.

UV pictures are a lot cooler.
