Click the image for the large version. That's KDE 4.2 running on Fedora 10 (@work).

I've never really liked the RedHat/Fedora distros. Always felt more comfortable using the debian based distros. Out of all those, I found that I liked the ubuntu flavors the best (mainly xubuntu as I have always liked XFCE).

It is good to know that I am not the only one out there that thinks KDE is shockingly close to Vista.

Well, I got introduced to FreeBSD a few years ago. But then I had to switch to Windows (XP) for work, the tools I was familiar with were kinda "windows only" and I lacked the knowledge to find the proper *nix/bsd alternatives.

But then, like a year and a half ago, I decided to give Fedora a try again (because it's widely used here at the office - hosting branche - we use RedHat ES for servers and Fedora for desktop environments)

I never really worked with other distro's, so "I really don't know any better". I feel quite comfortable with Fedora. It's being said that it's bleeding edge most of the time. I kinda like that for some odd reasons.

I got to know the KDE 4.x branches before I ever touched Vista. Therefor I was kinda surprised to see that they kinda (very much?) look-alike.

So is there a new KDE out that mimics vista, or did vista mimic KDE which has been around for awhile? I'm a lazy windows XP user...

My desktop doesn't need (maybe isn't allowed) a screenshot: 5 desktop icons in horizontal configuration top left, tclock running to make the taskbar flat and make the start menu no-text with a tree icon (from shell32.dll), wallpaper is a big pair of titties I found somewhere on the net... K.I.S.S.

widdy, let me simplify this....

he's basically saying that non-windows operating systems are cool, but they still are not compatible with most softwarez, so he's chained to windows for office work, and fedora for everything else, thats the main point... hope i got it right

upon further reading i think its the opposite... fedora for office work, and windows for everything else

(being more compatible thus making more sense, aaahhhh, doesnt matter how good am i in english, reading comprehension is like 60/100, meaning i have to read passages like 3-4 times till i get it right)

Whoops, I'm sorry, I guess I got carried away because I have been (trying to) learning a lot about Linux lately (shameless ad, have a look at the blog link in my signature - first post should make *some* sense ).

king is kinda right, at the office I switched from Windows to Linux (like 1,5 year ago), but that took me a while because I didn't knew enough about the software available for it. OpenOffice wasn't that mature at that point (which is about 4 years ago). Also the development software I was working with, wasn't compatible with Linux (HTML-Kit / Dev-PHP / Filezilla).

1,5 year ago I discovered the pleasures of ZendStudio (which is also available for Linux) and I figured that the other programs I was working with at that point, still OpenOffice and Filezilla, had matured enough to have very decent Linux variants of them. KDE 4 was just released and as a "newbie" that was an excellent point to make the switch to Linux again.

At home I'm still using Windows (dual-boot with Linux though) because the wife has some troubles getting used to the whole KDE "thing".

I hope that makes more sense Widdy.

It's WRC (World Rally Championship)

All offroad! It's rather common outside the US... And I never really see it here, except for occasionally on PBS or something...

Does Subaru have a car in Nascar? I kinda thought that was a Ford, Chevy, and Dodge thing... I don't know...

PHOTOBUCKET HAS MASSIVELY ANNOYING FULL PAGE POP-UP BLOCKS ME FROM WHAT i'M TRYING TO SEE THINGEE.

Nascar: I live outside the USA and have never seen it. Sounds boring though.
WRC: I forget what it's called (I just call it rally...), definitely some nice scenery. Not being a moterhead, I can however appreciate outdoorsy technical driving.

But hey I bicycle everywhere.

really? i'm a cyclist myself, with my current shape i cant go very far, only to the nearest cities, but i really want to take a big trip with them, something like a 4-5 day trip with a tent and all, problem is that the backpack will be too heavy for me and conflict with my balance, plus that my bike is not really built for it, most of the parts rusted in the rain, and a few falls broke the front cogs so i'm constricted to 2 out of 3, too lazy to get them fixed right now.

WRC... yeah... i've seen them here on eurosport channel i think, its the one where they drive through woods and on mud and dirt, yeah... thats cool... really dangerous too, i love the fact that you have to have a road-guide-person with you so you wont get lost (i think) and to avoid obstacles because youre too concentrated on driving you can miss important stuff (thats my logic anyway).. would love to take part in one of those... maybe in my next life

in europe WRC, WTCC and F1 are rather big, but we dont have nascar which is cars driving in a circular racetrack all the time (as far as i know at least).

locking the taskbar gives you some more pixels of screenspace, widdy. (unless you want to drag around your taskbr and have it set to unlocked on purpose)

Who's the drivers of the WRC at your desktop? It looks suspisouly much like a guy from where I live. Norwegian.

Subaru has given up WRC this year though, and Petter Solberg, the guy from here has bought his own car and become a private driver. He's driving a Citroen now.

I don't remember... I've had this image for several years... And just decided to crop it for my Netbook...

Edit:
It looks like I've had it since 2004... but the shot could be older...

Gave up on Fedora. Tried openSUSE with Gnome. Chucked it as well. So for Linux, I'm just sticking with Ubuntu and Xubuntu.

Non | step the greatest skin for litestep ever. I just love how clean it is. I've made a few modifications and the color-theme is also my own, and people that use my computer are amazed how organized things are with it. I simply love it. So much better way to use windows.
