Is it possible to have a progressbar on the video window? I like to have the "mini version" of the main window when i play a movieclip cuz it takes too much space otherwise.

When i play a movieclip (i only tried MPEG2) it starts to stutter after a while and gets wors and worse, when i pause it i cant get it to play again.

The progressbar is still there when Winamp's main window is in windowshade mode (mini-mode), it's really small, but it's on the far right, just left of the minimize button. It's pretty small.

Maybe you could put the main window into Double-size mode to make it's progress bar bigger?

Hey does anyone know wether or not WA5 supports language packs? I know we now have unicode support but that's not what i mean. WA3 had the ablity to read a xml file that would translate all the text to another language - Is such a feature in WA5? I wanna know cause I was gonna port one i did for 3 over but didn't wanna do all that coding only to find it isn't supported...

[edit] If so then where is the option where I change from default to my new language? And where would I put the pak directory wise?

As dextro pointed out, we're waiting on the new new language sdk to come out, because there are a ton of new/modified strings. The pack would work (I think) the same way that winamp2 lang packs do now...since Winamp 5 is built from the Winamp 2 base. ie..No xml for langs. My suggestion is to wait for the sdk to be released, it should make the job much much easier.

I was away for a while.
But I'm feeling much better now.

Are there going to be full Logitech diNovo compatablility in winamp 5? It's more or less buildt for wmp, but it would be nice if the same functionality would be in winamp 5. I'm especially thinking about the mediapad and it's LCD display but also the control buttons.

Hope AOL won't ruin our beloved Winamp and Nullsoft.
How deep is AOL influence in Winamp anyway(there is the AOL icon)?

Thanx

Greanted, but AOL also owns Netscape and the Mozilla progject. And those two things have been doing pretty well (although Netscape is being discontinued for Mozilla, the staff that has worked on Netscape is going over to Mozilla). I don't think AOL is stupid enough to have to force to change things, if they see a good thing, I don't think they'll go ahead and ruin it.

AOL doesnt own the mozilla project. The mozilla project is like a non profit organization that is funded by AOL and is worked on by Netscape employees on their "free" time.

Erm, remeber Netscape6 (the winamp3 of browsers)?
And it all depends on what they see as a good thing (eg not vorbis encoding).

AOLTW has dropped the AOL. It's now just Time Warner (again).

AOL sacked all the remaining Netscape programmers in the summer (AOL never owned mozilla, it's an open-source effort, which AOL happened to pay people to work on). Netscape as a browser has ceased to exist. Though most of the Netscape employees that AOL sacked have been snapped up by other companies like IBM.

Netscape 6 wasn't bad, it was a nice browser, although you can draw a lot of parallels between Mozilla/Netscape and Winamp3: obscenely long dev process, released too early. Maybe it's worth bearing in mind that Mozilla is now the best browser on earth .

For long you live and high you fly, but only if you ride the tide, and balanced on the biggest wave you race towards an early grave.

Nope, AOL blowed up the Netscape 6 installer with tons of crap.

Netscape 6 was very slow and full of AOL crap.

Netscape 7 based on Mozilla 1.X, and was much better then Netscape 6, but also full of AOL crap.

AOL was one main sponsor of the Mozilla project.

Opera is too flashy for me. And it doesn't render font sizes properly (or maybe it does and every other browser doesn't, who can tell?).

I'll leave the browser debate after answering to the Opera font issue:
Opera render font sizes aswell as any other browser, it's just that Opera uses a custom page style as default (I think it still does anyway) which you can easilly change by going into File->Preferences->Page style and change default mode to 'Author mode', then you can ofcourse check all the stuffs in there and see if it's how you like it to be..

Anyways, I also like Opera better than anything else, but Mozilla is very good too. They both beat IE hands down..

now I'm done..

OK, my two cents on opera. I just recently switched to Opera. and I am hooked on opera like I am hooked on winamp. The only downside is that certain pages look better (and actually work) only in IE, that said, I am pretty sure that those were MS sites.
OK I am done.

Sure it might have been said ... I like the right click options on files/folders. insted of them being in the main right click menu, have them sub menued. also have a optiion that when you right click on a folder you can create a playlist and the name of the playlist is what the folder name was.

Besides that Best winamp ever, I thought I liked winamp3 allot.

Yeah, the ONLY thing so far that I miss from winamp3 is the sidecar in the play list. But I think someone is working on a plugin for that too. That was my most favourite part of winamp3.

That said. Winamp5 kicks ass despite that.

Someone should open a new thread of just browser debates..

and WhiteRaven: You're not alone in liking the sidecar for playlists. It was one of my favorite parts about Winamp3 too. If they don't add it sometime, even with a plugin, I might stick with Winamp3..

Let me just lay out what we know about the release:

As far as the developers are concerned, winamp 5.0 is very nearly finished. There are no major bugs left, and no more features will be implemented before the final.

The only changes we are looking at between what we currently have and the final are minor bugfixes.

AOL arn't ready for Nullsoft to release 5.0 due to various (non-code and non-website related) issues.
When they are ready, it will be released.
We do not know when they will be ready.

That is all we know (we do not know the exact details of the issues).

I hope you understand how frustrating this is for all concerned.

[edit] note: I started typing this before I saw Will's post [/edit]

No-one said anything about Dec 7th being the official release date...
except for some troll who was banned for posing as someone from the Winamp Dev team.

And how many more times do you people need telling?
The playlist sidecar was a feature of Winamp3's pledit.wac component.
Winamp and Winamp3 are two totally different/separate products/players.
Winamp does not support wasabi WAC components.
The integral playlist window code in Winamp is built into winamp.exe and is the exact same playlist in both Winamp 2.x and Winamp 5.x
There is no 'bringing it back' because it's never been a feature of Winamp.
It's not the freeform skin which enables the sidecar, it's the code in the pledit.wac wasabi component.

afaik, the Winamp playlist code CANNOT be modified to support the sidecar, not without breaking support for the entire classic skins database.

If you want it so bad, then either wait for DrO to finish his plugin,
or forget about Winamp 5 and use Wasabi.Player instead (Winamp3 is dead and has now been rightfully renamed to wasabi.player, I'm sure you can find it if you try). Just don't moan about any of it here, that's all. Wasabi.Player will not be officially supported (by Nullsoft or by 85% of the forum moderators).

Personally, I'm perfectly happy with storing playlists in the library and opening them from the playlist window, without the need for the library to even be open.

Besides all that, stop moaning about/wishing for shit which is already in the official wishlist.

And just be patient.
There's not gonna be much difference between 5.0 rc10/11 and 5.0 Final anyway. So wtf are you beefing about? Just be thankful, that's all

[edit] If you're frustrated, just how do you think Nullsoft feels? [/edit]

I'm re-posting this here -- because it seems a lot more at home here (and a lot needed...)

Been using WA for years now, but am fairly new to all the activity of these forums. Just some observations:

#1 -- Of course WA 5 Final is going to be awesome. I mean with the Quick-change color schemes, free-form skinning, working and quite extensively customizable ML, especially since the whole shebang doesn't hog the PC quite as much anymore...

Oh, wait, that's what we have now.

Be thankful.

#2 -- Is the Nullsoft crew contracturally obligated or something to not speak out against AOL. It seems that most of the people around here blame AOL for the problems and that even the simplest of explanation would help. I just think that an occasional communication, an update on planned features, a rationale behind the delays would go a long ways to calming some of the more rabid fans.

#3 -- For all of you losing sleep over this deal and monitorinig certain websites 24 /7, in the words of William Shatner, from a memorable (if you're over 30, anyway) epidosde of SNL):

"Get-a-life! Will ya people? For cryin' out loud... move out of your mother's basement!"

#4 -- With the intensity of the hopes that are raised and dashed around here, I'm waiting for the following threads:

Mod: Hey, forumites, I've got good news.

Us: Winamp 5 Final is finally Final?

Mod: No, I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

#5 -- All kick-butt things will come to those who wait.

... and wait... and wait... and wait...

Wait. See #1. (Gotta tell myself this stuff sometimes too, you know...)

"Come with me, if you want to live."
