How critically important is this? What does it mean if we never get it?

it's THE most important part, it's what ties everything together.
The skinning/scripting engines are in it for example.
(I think gen_ff.dll is a modified wasabi.dll)
If we never get it, we have to make our own, which could take quite some time to do..

Thats what I was afraid of. Ah well, I guess I will just wait until the final word from Russ, or whomever knows what is going on.

You know what would be cool? Some unholy merger of WasabiPlayer and Foobar. Just dreaming...

Hey now! Calm down! I guess will wait and see. So the attitude is still that even if we cant get any more open sourced, we forge forward with development?

Oh, and Merry Christmas to you all.

This quote is the best Christmas present ever!

I sadly can't code! But look forward to follow the development!

Because nobody could be bothered to take it off yet. Could be there a while, knowing AOL's web site skills.

So, this is my first post after frequent visits to this forum over the past years and months...

I always liked winamp3 and didn't entirely agree with the decision to discontinue its development...I also like the potential inherent in the wasabi design and so I am glad to see folks interested in keeping it alive...

My question is thisthis comes from someone with little programming experience, and no familiarity with the winamp/wasabi development community so my apologies in advance)

Considering that the skinning/scripting engine is not presently open source, would it be possible or even worthwhile to build a new, open source version that renders the GUI interface using 3D acceleration, possibly even through the new windows longhorn system?

Does anyone else in the development community think it would be cool to EXTEND the MAKI scripting design in such a way that it also could describe 3D objects and components? Im all about taking some load off the CPU and harnessing the power of my graphics card, and pixel/vertex shading could really take skins to another level!!

Just curious if anyone else has ever thought along these lines...

In the long long long term, we may have to replace wasabi.dll with our own version. We're hoping we won't have to. Lone is still working to get it open-sourced.

An interesting idea to use 3d acceleration. However, the longhorn system probably wouldn't be used. Remember, one of the goals of Wasabi is to be platform independent. OpenGL would be a much more likely candidate.

BTW, have you tried the more recent builds of wasabi.player? they really don't use that much cpu. I'm assuming your concern on the issue comes from the cpu-hoarding winamp3.

I fear it will be quite awhile before truly bitching builds of wasabi.player come out. Just enjoy WA5 for now.

Sorry to crash in here (with me beeing a WA2.x fanatic and with much bitching done in the WA3 release days) but I never quite disliked Winamp3, in fact I always thought (like I see you did/do too) that Wasabi is a great platform that was never finished.

I would love to help out but I'm no coder and my only real skill is webmastering (not very expirenced tho) so I'll just stay in the shadow, learning and observing until the time comes for me to come back either idolizing WP or coding for it (yeh, I must be dreaming :P ).

So for the time beeing I would like to wish you the best of luck and tell you I'm looking foward for this and also I would like to ask you where could I get the last build of WA3/WP? Is it the one on the NSDN?
