wine

Wining, not to be confused with whining or winning, is a nice compliment to dining. This goes along side a thread that turned into a good beer thread (starting page 2) and henceforth will be the primary center of wine discussion.

Credit for the idea is due to k_rock923's suggestion on another thread.

The bottles that start this thread are actually very inexpensive to buy new, and taste rather mediocre at best when new, but are very good at aging in my opinion. They're both from 2001. Walnut Crest is from Chile and in my opinion makes a decent Cab, Merlot, Shiraz and Chardonnay, all of which taste surprisingly great after a few years in the cellar. Bolla is from Italy and makes a good Italian Merlot, which I have also found to age well. These are both double-capacity bottles - I usually buy them that way if possible since they're much less money/unit measure despite looking a little less classy/traditional. Plus, when celebrating something worthy of uncorking these, I'll probably have a lot of people helping me celebrate.

Great. And for the price, even better.

Quite a few of the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignons are good and some well price. Great thread idea. (Hic)

Chardonnay wines go well with any dish or by itself. I'm not a big fan of red wines.

^win.

I'll have to make a booze thread for all things hard liquor.

Well, I guess we do have these two, which I've really liked. I should have known to include that in my first post. Damnit.

Expecting someone to find the right thread when drunk might be a challenge though, so it's ok to post here if necessary. It's probably a lot better than what I did a while back.

some of my favourites. The zinfandel is decidedly delicious.

I've had that zinfandel as well. I do remember liking it.

Since I sometimes like it, some info on Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio
Some very good value here.
*although the aricle is old, some of the prices are still good.*
