Support .SID and .AMR format

Hi,

I am missing two audio formats:

sid - Commodore64 sound format (free source available), seems to be byte compatible with NSF from NES game console.

and

amr - used on mobile phones from Nokia and SonyEricsson

I don't want to have separate audio players for all those formats.

Possible?

Frank

I think, support for .spc files(Super Nintendo), should be part of Winamp, because they are much more popular than .nsf files.

Useful, but not intersting for most people, so native support wouldn't make much sense.

Btw, the thread is 2 years old.

I went here because of this poll thing - wanted to do something to further my interests. AMR is clearly kind of whimsical but i'd like it.
And with 280 views, this thread is 12th in the list - pretty much in the leading third or even fourth of all. So there is at least s o m e interest.

If you have ffdshow installed you can playback AMR files using the DirectShow plugin.

For SID files there are various Winamp plugins which work fine (for me).

kzuse

Heh, 280 views means nothing, I opened the thread several times.

Take a look at other threads, there are 25000 views.

Never mind, Sidamp2 just works fine for me and for AMR, the DirectShow method should work, I don't expect, that there ever will be native support for these exotical formats.

Please, which plugin exactly do you mean by "directshow plugin"? I am not into plugins and I didn't find something like that in the official plugin list.

Thanks

In Winamp, there is a plugin called "Nullsoft Direct Show Decoder". If you have ffdshow installed (which is a popular DirectShow filter for various video and audio codecs, and is freely available on the web), you can use it to play .amr files. (Make sure that you have ffdshow's AUDIO decoder installed and the AMR codec activated. Also make sure that you have the latest version since older versions don't decode AMR).

To make Winamp then play AMR files, just open the settings dialog of Nullsoft's Direct Show Decoder by double clicking its name in the input plugin list, and add the extenstion ;AMR. Then close and restart winamp, and add the extension under "file types" by simply selecting it (must be contained in the list now).

Then, finally, restart Winamp again, and from then on, double clicking an .amr file should play it through the ffdshow audio decoder.

Best regards,
kzuse

Hi. I am following your instructions for playing back .amr files with Winamp, but I can't! I have the latest ffdshow installed and AMR decoding enabled. I have the directshow plugin v0.98 installed and I have added the ;AMR extension. But I can't play the file with winamp. Is there any directshow filter/splitter for that format? I can't create a graph in GraphEdit for an .amr file, so I think that there is a problem. Do you play normally amr files with Winamp? Thanks.

Yes. Anyway is it possible to install only the Video decoder of ffdshow?

I have also tried to test your instructions with ogg vorbis files. I installed Winamp Lite (with no vorbis support) and then I added the directshow plugin. Also, I had configured ffdshow to decode vorbis and I added the .ogg extension to the plug-in. Indeed the result was excellent: I can now play ogg vorbis files with Winamp Lite and the ffdshow (audio decoder) icon is on the system tray. So the logic seems to be correct, but with .amr files there is a problem. Maybe ffdshow is unable to decode all kind of .amr files... It's obvious that the problem is in the decoding, not in the configuration of the plug-in.

Can you create a full graph with an .amr file in GraphEdit?

PS: If you want to test it, I can send you such an .amr file.

Sorry, I over-read that...

I don't know where the problem is, sorry. On my system I can constuct a Graph for .amr files. (It does it automatically).

Hi again, kzuse. Could you please provide a screenshot from GraphEdit? I would like to see the graph of an .amr file in your system. Thanks.
