32mb cache...Nice.

Still, i'm more interested in the prospect that, once available, this will quickly push most 500GB drives down to roughly the same price per GB as 250/320GB drives currently are.

Maybe its gonna be time for me to find a 320GB drive to compliment my 80GB one soon.

1TB * 3 / 1.5 = 2 TB of single-drive-failure-resiliant, $1200 RAID 5 sexiness. Hmmm...

All this extra storage space is great and everything, but it really doesn't help me. I need drives that are FASTER. Even RAID 0 is still far too slow. My computer is constantly lagging because of the hard drives. :\

Why the fuck would anyone need one terrabyte?

640k sbould be enough for.. err ..
But really, how large (read: inefficient) do we expect programs to be in the future?

clean up once in a while, and remove programs you don't use, it makes it faster.

Then again, you could get faster hardware again but that would only make matters worse in the end

If you start storing media on drives they fill up fast. Just the old time radio crap I put on http://cityofrosesradio.com is 80 GB. Then start storing music in flac or monkeyaudio instead of MP3. HDTV video gets big in a hurry if you're using a multimedia pc.

My best computer has a raid 0 with 3 80 GB drives, a 250 GB drive and a hotswap hard disk rail. I have 2-250 GB drives in rails.

My application is kind of extreme, because I'm also storing a lot of public domain video. So I've got about 760 GB that I can use at a time, with 250 GB of it being swappable.

If I need more backup space, the most economical solution is to buy a rail and a new drive,

That's the thing about backup devices. No matter how big they are, they are not big enough.

At the moment I've got about 1.5TB (800GB of which is in my file server) across my systems and i'm constantly having to shuffle things around to make space for something.
