In case you've all been wondering where I've been...

For at least the last year I've been utterly and totally addicted to world of warcraft.

Jesus - the game's like crack.
Just. Can't. Stop. Playing.

They really need to put a warning label on this crap

If you have any chance of living a real life, don't.
If you're pretty satisfied living out the remainder of your days as a vegetable, do it.

My son often buys gold on the internet and right now, he's in the middle of a 74 hour period where, for 50 bucks he has a bunch of Asian ex-sweatshop workers building up his shaman mantra shit or something like that

I don't understand all this WoW fuzz, sure i haven't even played the game so that makes it kinda hard to understand... But i guess since it's by the same company that made the ever awesome Diablo 2 (which im still totally hooked to, even though i never play online), then i guess it's crack+heroine+cheesepuffs combined to a highly addicting piece of electronical entertainment.

Luckily i don't have the means to pay 10$ a month + my computer is crappy and can't probably even run the damn game, so im safe

They charge per month, first month free.

The reason that it becomes addicting is because it's impossible to beat; there is always *always* some never-ending project that you're working on.

Be it leveling, getting gear, progressing through the PVP ranks, or mastering a trade skill. It is (almost literally) impossible to get the best items in the entire game, have the highest pvp rank, and master every trade skill and level every class to 60. The main goal of most people at the highest level is to do hard dungeons for the best gear, but the problem is that these dungeons and bosses are take so long to kill and master that by the time that you kill the last boss in a dungeon they release a new one - you eventually get stuck in this "Wow!" cycle where you're always trying to get new and better items that seem unbelievably awsome or great at the time. By the time you do, there's better stuff out that has your attention.

Goal #1 in the World of Warcraft:
  • Never get laid

It's so damn easy to achieve this goal and the vast majority of Warcrafters reach this goal easily.

Without breaking a sweat, atleast 150€ per month for beer and other alcoholics + around 100€ for greasy food like pizza and lasagna.

Though the ladies seem to be fond of fat alcoholics, so sometimes i need to buy a shovel (another 15€) just to shove em off!

It's a tough world, warcraft one or not

I forgot about mr squakmix

Kinda like a big light post in my backyard.

My house was broken into before I moved here.. they put a street light in the backyard. Now trees cover the light and it provides absolutely no benefits, yet I'm still paying $12 a month for the electricity on it.

Same a WoW, no benefits, constant money.

I tried it out a few months ago.. didn't see the big deal, I'm not really an MMORPG type though

yeah, i'm back.

Lately... I've been thinking about picking this game up as the system requirements don't seem too high.

Quote:
Minimum System Requirements

Windows® System 2000/XP OS:

* Intel Pentium® III 800 MHz or AMD Athlon 800 MHz
* 512 MB or more of RAM
* 32 MB 3D graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as NVIDIA® GeForce™ 2 class card or above
* DirectX® 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers
* 6.0 GB available HD space
* 4x CD-ROM drive
* A 56k or better Internet connection
I have
Quote:
Tug's system

Motherboard
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 1725 MHz (6.5 x 265)
Motherboard Name ECS K7S5A (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 AMR, 2 SDR DIMM, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio)
Motherboard Chipset SiS 735
System Memory 1024 MB (DDR SDRAM)

Display
Video Adapter RADEON 9600 SERIES - Secondary (128 MB)
Video Adapter RADEON 9600 SERIES - Secondary (128 MB)
3D Accelerator ATI Radeon 9600 (RV350)
Monitor BenQ FP91GX [NoDB] (15346802)

Partitions
D: (NTFS) 34161 MB (19222 MB free)
But here's the catch, my motherboard only supports 4x AGP speed (and my card can go up to 8x) so a lot of the gfx power goes to waste and im wondering even though it's a better card than required, would the slow AGP bus cripple my gaming exprience?

Anyone have any experience on playing this game with a low-end system? How well does it work?

There's not much performance going to waste by running your card on an AGP 4x bus.

Take a look at this AGP 4x vs AGP 8x comparison, using a 9800np: http://www.pcmoddingmy.com/e107_plug...hp?content.142

i used to play WoW, but i've given it up for AA (auto assault, which is so much more than crack it's not even funny) (worse than heroin i'd say) (not that i'd know for sure) my main was a lvl 56 pally, with 300 cooking (yes cooking ) and 280 enchanting... and 50 tailoring... ah those were the good days lol, but i'm really glad i left that game for auto assault.

in conclusion :

YOU GO BUY AA NOW! YOU BE MUCH HAPPY! ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME!

but seriously the only drawback to auto assault is, CRAFTING IS A BITCH!!! and it's much more involved than WoW could ever hope to be...
if you want details on the crafting and/or other stuffs in auto assault, let me know, but be warned a crafting explanation would take almost an entire sheet of paper's worth of text to fully explain.

I hate everyone, so you don't have to.

Let me see, Auto Assault... "This game is just complete crap", says so in my monthly computer magazine, which i trust a helluva lot more than... anyway, I bought WoW today + the 60 days card, but im not starting it till tomorrow or sunday (because im drinking today and i might have a "good" hangover tomorrow).

lol tugg, you just lost any respect i ever had for you... it's already much better than WoW it's just not receiving much publicity because

1. it is NOT aimed at the same audience as WoW, example given a LOT of the stuff in it is (currently) much harder than it's WoW equivalent, this game has no attempt to be easy.
2. it pretty much only has a cult following now, but as more people are playing the fanbase is slowly growing

now that said any game where you go off and about picking flowers to craft is no longer cool in my book.
and trust me here tugg, i've played more MMO's than you will ever hear about, it is good, it just takes patience, something that braindead idiot reviewer obviously DID NOT HAVE.

I hate everyone, so you don't have to.

If anyone has played even one MMORPG , then they have played more MMO's than me. This is my first, the main reason i got interested in it, because a lot of people in the Diablo II community hold it in high regard and say it is in a lot of ways similiar to D2 (which is my favourite game btw. if you didn't figure that out yet).

Oh and any game that has a cult following, will be highly regarded by the community that follows it, so nothing new there. And the reason i trust the computer magazine that im ordering is that most of them were into computers and games before I was even born, i think they know a thing or two more than me.

But you're right, you might know more than them, you certainly know more than me, but i don't trust you and i trust them.

Oh and bringing AVS grudges to other parts of the forum? tsk. tsk. , baaaaad move sir.

that's not an avs grudge, i actually liked you for helping me with that preset way back in the day, untill you bashed one of my favorite things in the world only because some airhead couldn't properly play it.... and also completely made fun of my point in another.

that said, i doubt you will believe it, but you were the one AVS'er i actually liked, untill recently.

i really hate to double post, but either way, tugg, what makes you think that i was aiming my claims about that game directly at you anyway? if you knew you weren't interested, why respond?

[EDIT] either way i'm sure you're going to just love WoW, but one thing i didn't like about it (and this may just have been the server i played on) but that game has THE BIGGEST community of assholes ever seen online.
not to mention it's extremely hard to get to any decent amount of money too.
