Re: Different shell descriptions for different associated filetypes You may need to change at least one associated filetype, either during the Setup section of the Installer or afterwards via "Winamp -> Prefs -> File Types" for these to take effect. In some cases, you might also need to refresh/reopen a folder to see the changes, or in some rare cases you might even need to restart Explorer. Basically, instead of seeing "Winamp Media File" as the description for all associated file types, you should now be seeing descriptions such as "MPEG-4 Audio File Format" for .M4A files in Explorer folders, etc. Vista users might still need to start Winamp via right-clicking the Winamp shortcut icon and selecting 'Run as administrator' for these settings to take effect via: Winamp -> Prefs -> File Types. 2. Re: New offline CD Info Editor This uses the same dialog as the universal File Info Editor (for mp3, aac, ogg, flac, m4a, wma), so please do not report things like "The 'Format Info' section is empty" as bugs. The 'MusicID' tab will be hidden if 'Use MusicID' (CDDB) is unchecked in in_cdda config (Prefs -> Plugins -> Input), and the 'CD-Text' tab will be hidden if the Sonic CD Ripping/Burning Engine is not installed (as Sonic provides support for this feature). 3. Hidden undocumented feature DWM thumbnail & Flip3D support for Modern skins on Windows Vista In Vista, with Winamp closed, go to: Start->Run Type: %appdata%\Winamp Open winamp.ini In the [Winamp] section, add: vista_thumbnail=1 Note, this will only work when Winamp is visible on the desktop, but not when it is minimized to the taskbar (where it will still show the Classic skin main window instead). A major hack/rewrite would be required to make it work for when Winamp is in a minimized state (when a Modern skin is active). But at least this is a start... :-) __________________________________________________________________________ Known Bugs/Issues: 1. Another excellent version. Thanks Devs.
Unfortunately, I have run into a few wierd issues. One is Kn0tte a big deal. The other seems to be a bigger issue. The main issue is that If you right click a song in windows explorer (outside of the media library) and choose "Enque in Winamp" The song gets added to the Playlist as it should. However, if you do the same with a playlist, it will open a new instance of winamp and does not add to the current playlist. I did not notice this in the betas. second one which is not as big of an issue. When you initally install, "Gorup CD Drives under rip and burn parent" is unchecked, but the media Library shows it under the parent. If you check and uncheck the box, then the proper action is being displayed. Screen shot attached. Thank You |

Doh! Yup, reproduced. Maybe we can get a fixed ml_playlists.dll update.... @Juanus Weird. Sorry, but I can't reproduce the 'enqueue playlist' problem. What's your Windows OS? Make sure the commandline for m3u/m3u8/pls files uses the /ADD switch, and not /NEW. If it's Vista, then certain things won't work if Winamp is 'run as administrator' (eg. drag+drop from Explorer to pledit) and maybe also the cause of your issue? Though I'm not rightly sure at the moment... Note that Winamp is launched in admin mode on first run (under Vista), due to the elevated state of the installer. @SignOff Re: Vista thumnbails You need to be using the Aero theme in Vista, which shows thumbnails when you mouseover the items in the Windows Taskbar... Up till now, this has been broken for Winamp when using a Modern skin, where it would show a thumbnail representation of the Classic skin instead. It's still broken if Winamp is minimized to the taskbar, but now works fine (once that .ini setting is in place, and winamp is restarted) when Winamp is visible on the desktop and a Modern skin is being used... The problem with installing skins is a Vista-specific 'permissions' issue. Try right-clicking the download link, select 'save target/link as', and save the WLZ or WAL file to the Winamp\Skins folder, then select it from the Skins menu in Winamp. Two other known workarounds are here and here. |

Control Panel -> Folder Options -> File Types
M3U -> Advanced Enqueue in Winamp -> Edit App used commandline: "C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" /ADD "%1" (assuming that's where you installed Winamp to, otherwise change the path accordingly) [Edit] Oh... so a reboot fixed it then. Cool. |

Thanks Egg... please see edit above.
I knew about the filetypes, but I did not know you could config stuff that way... very interesting. The screen shot in my above post is still valid, but unimportant in the grand scheme. |

hey, i'm having the same probs here. so here are some questions for you: 1) had you winamp installed before? if so which version 2) did you install winamp 5.53 in two different directories? 3) what's your installation path |

ps. for the Vista skins problem, another workaround is: You could also try changing the Skin dir to a writable location... Create a new folder in e.g. C:\Users\Public\Skins Now copy all the files & folders from the %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\Skins dir to this new one. Then go to: Winamp -> Prefs -> Skins -> Set skins directory and point it to this new folder. Saving & loading skins should now work as normal again. Another workaround is to edit the permissions of the Winamp\Skins folder. Further info/details here. But yeah... 1) The first workaround from above (right-click -> save target as, etc) is probably easier, and 2) this issue does need addressing... :-) |

How do we reproduce this crash? (because we can't) Was this a clean install of 5.53? Please attach your List Of Plugins The 5.52 version will suffice, for now... |

Hi DJ Egg,
Plugins > None. Uninstalled Winamp 5.52 + 5.51 Essentials Pack + deleted Winamp folder (Program Files). Fresh installation of Winamp 5.53 (Sonic engine unchecked + iPod support unchecked). After the installation, Start Winamp and bang, crash. Everytime I start Winamp, crash at startup. (Tested with Windows Vista SP1 Ultimate and Home premium - EN). Edit: "How do we reproduce this crash? (because we can't)" - Start Winamp > crash. "Was this a clean install of 5.53?" - Yes. |

Essentials Pack = plugins = 3rd-party / not supported
(regardless of it being linked to in the main post above). Chances are that maybe one or more of the plugins in the EP are no longer compatible with 5.53...? Whatever the case, please attach the plugin list anyway. Unless you also deleted the %AppData%\Winamp folder contents, then you also haven't done a proper clean install either (see link in my post above). |

Hi,
Okay > 1. Uninstalled Winamp 5.53 2. Deleted Winamp folder (Program files) 3. Deleted Winamp folder (%AppData%) 4. Rebooted 5. Installed Winamp without... - Sonic engine - Winamp Agent - all MP3 players support (except Creative) - CD/Rip in ML 6. Started Winamp (Run as Admin) >> Quote:

Another problem with this latest build:
1. Start Winamp 5.53 (after full clean installation) 2. Configure Winamp 3. Play MP3 4. Close Winamp >> Quote:

I'm still unable to reproduce those problems with 5.53 on my test Vista sp1 box. Unless it's something to do with ml_pmp/pmp_njb.dll or ml_orb.dll (I don't have/use any of those, though do use pmp_njb to manage a Zen on my XP sp2 box, and there's no problems there). Either that, or a conflict with some other concurrently running external process... You're not trying to run Winamp in XP compatibility mode, maybe? |

Works perfect. Big thank you.
There's one tiny thing. In the shell descriptions in Windows Explorer, I've noticed that Album shows as 'album' with 'A' in lowercase. I know this is absolutely ridiculous and you have bigger problems but I'm slightly OCD about this. Cheers and thanks again. |

Hi. Hmm, what do you mean exactly (re: 'album')? By 'shell descriptions' we mean what is displayed in the 'Type' column, eg. MP3 = MPEG Layer 3 Audio File M4A = MPEG-4 Audio File Format AAC = MPEG-2 Adavanced Audio Coding File etc etc etc I don't think we use 'album' in any of our filetype descriptions... |

I had the same Enqueue problem as Juanus when I just installed but it seems like I did something and it disappeared.
In the past versions I had a problem where if you lasso 2 folders then enqueue(when Winamp is not loaded), 2 Winamp instances will load each for one folder. Seems to be fixed in 5.53. Thanx |

Issue with "Enqueue selection" in a ML Playlist

For some reason Winamp 5.53 doesn't load album info in the proper way. When I attempt to edit the track info Winamp won't search CDDB/freedb for the info, except on a track by track basis when I tell it to auto-tag.
If I'm not explaining this right, here's a screen capture. All I did to get this picture setup was right-click on a track as I usually do and click Edit CD Info |

Album pane commands in “Genre\Artist\Album†ML SmartView
When using a “Genre\Artist\Album†ML SmartView, the right-click commands
are NOT working as expected on the “All (# Albums)†item in the Albums pane. These same right-click commands on the “All (# Albums)†item work as expected in the double filter/panes (ex “Artist\Albumâ€). Look at the below screenshot of my Winamp: ![]() When I choose the “Play selection†circled I would expect the 5 Fleetwood Mac songs visible in the song pane to be sent to the Playlist. But instead, when I choose the “Play selection†circled, the 54 tracks from the Artist frame are sent to the Playlist. Can anyone else replicate this behavior? #1 Wish - Album Art Config #2 Wish - Add Encoded Tag To The ML I recommend DrO's Plugins and ◊ Screen Lock Detector ◊ Power Hour ◊ ShnAmp ◊ TrayAmp ◊ WinampSwitch ◊ |

I really want to be able to hide the Bento Skin tab buttons "Media Library", "Video", "Visualization" and "Browser". If one just uses the Media Library, these tabs are a total waste of screen space.
Been waiting for this since Bento was introduced. |

@Sl1pStream
This means that Gracenote CDDB (MusicID) is either disabled or not installed. Maybe you unchecked it in the installer options...? If not, then go to: Winamp -> Prefs -> Plugins -> in_cdda -> config and checkmark "Use MusicID". See the notes (#2) in the first post re: MusicID tab won't appear... @jph6t The buttons for the playlist & ml_disc data viewer are now dynamic, i.e. they follow the global font size setting in Prefs -> Playlist (assuming 'ML uses same font as Playlist' is also checkmarked in Prefs -> Media Library -> Library Options tab). Hopefully, we'll eventually update all the ml buttons to follow that same behaviour, but it's probably quite a big job.... Re: 3 pane ml view bug Yes, I can reproduce it. Is this new to 5.53, or did it also exist in 5.52 and/or earlier? @all Please see the new 'Known Bugs' section in the first post :-) |

@DJ Egg,
Excuse my stupidity. I just realized I'm using another shell extension for Windows Explorer to display Album, Artist etc details on hover over an mp3 file. Winamp displays the File Type perfectly, it's the other shell extension I'm using that shows 'Album' as 'album'. Thanks anyway. |
