Manually adding an online service in Winamp 5.666

The Online Services directory is currently down during the transition of services from AOL to Radionomy servers.

In Winamp 5.666 you can manually add an Online Service as follows:

1. Right-click Online Services in the media library tree.
2. Select: Service Management > New
3. Enter the Name & Url for the relevant service
4. Click "Save"

Here's a list of other known online services:

Name: SHOUTcast Radio
Url: http://www.shoutcast.com/scradioinwinamp/

Name: SHOUTcast Directory
Url: http://www.shoutcast.com

Name: SHOUTcast TV
Url: http://thugie.nl/streams.php

Name: Radionomy
Url: https://www.radionomy.com/en/style

Name: LyricsMeaning
Url: http://www.lyricsmeaning.za.net

Name: MetroLyrics
Url: http://www.metrolyrics.com/widgets/winamp

Name: SongFreaks
Url: http://www.songfreaks.com/winamp/index

Name: RadioFeeds UK & Ireland
Url: http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/winamp
Icon: http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/winamp/rf.png

Please feel free to add the Name & Url for more Winamp Online Services below.

We also recommend that you go to:
Winamp > Prefs (Ctrl+P) > File Types
and select PLS from the list to make Winamp the default PLS playlist handler
(Windows 8 & 10 users will need to do this via "Windows Control Panel > Default Programs" instead).

This will make the Listen links open in Winamp instead of whatever other program/player might be your current PLS playlist handler.

Note, this is only a temporary issue whilst we rewrite the SHOUTcast Radio in Winamp view
(i.e. the new view will use the internal Winamp APIs again).

WinAmp's visualizations were a great element in its original success. It has always been a fine radio application. The post-(expletive) takeover additions do add value (SongFreaks' LyricStream is cool).

Attached is a collection of these and some original Online Services that can be added with a right-click, Service Management and Import File (highlight them all) to save some trouble. If anyone has Tour Tracker, 7digital or etc. updated links post them and I'll update the ZIP. Make WinAmp something for everyone again.

I have to tell You, that Exfm doesn't exist anymore. I discovered it 8 days ago, when I checked the online services in Winamp, which I do from time to time. Then I made the test-visit with the bookmarked link to my former Exfm-Profile in Chrome, where I found these bad news (also on http://ex.fm/wols in Firefox). This is the link to the blog of Exfm, where I have commented via Disqus:
http://blog.ex.fm/post/85838512856/some-important-news

Because I had thought, Exfm would be shut down much earlier, I had made my screenshots from my profile already in December...

Hi silicon83, I am curious about your statement that winamp has always been a fine radio player. I wish I could agree but, NOT. I don't even see how it survives, I've been using for online streaming for MANY years and about half the time the content simply will not play. Internet radio seems like a Godsend over AM radio broadcasting but it is yet to live up to its potential. Are the vast majority of users having the same experience? Have I been missing something on how to make it work?? A couple of channels seem rock solid (Alex Jones - Infowars) but all the rest are unreliable at best. I try new versions through the years and no real breakthrough. I would quit using winamp if I could have ever found a working replacement. Any ideas how I might make winamp work well for me?
Thanks, breezelow

exfm is probably going to be a standard feature of Winamp so I'll ignore that that link no longer works.

These need to go;
Moodagent - Non-functioning and changing to a new system.
http://www.moodagent.com/blog/a-farewell-to-apps

TopMusic Vids - Now leads to a fake BBC page containing a scam about cheap iPhones (delete ASAP).

Song Freaks - is not behaving, but the site/service is still there.

Suggestions for addition
Seesu - http://seesu.me (I love this streaming site)
Use this URL for the app http://seesu.me/o (Beta page http://seesu.me/obeta)

Music Videos Wizard - http://musicvideoswiz.com
Use your Last.fm ID for quick access to your library, eg.
http://musicvideoswiz.com/user/Dr-Flay

Hello Dr.Flay,

I did not visit Last.fm for many months, so that I don't know, when they have changed the profile layout, but the new profile layout looks terrible. In Firefox and Chrome I have discovered, that I am redirected to YouTube in a new tab or a connection to Spotify is tried...
http://forums.winamp.com/showpost.ph...ostcount=27092

If I click on Your link, then I get the following:
What's new — Last.fm
http://www.last.fm/about/whatsnew#player

In my user-profile I have written 2 new comments, after I have lost all my links and all my blogs...
http://www.last.fm/de/user/SabineKlare
"Du siehst eine Betaversion der neuen Last.fm-Website. Sag uns deine Meinung" = "You see a beta version of the new Last.fm site . Have your say"... Yes, that I don't like such surprises very much. Now I cannot use Last.fm as my main startpage anymore. In hearthis.at I have already changed my profile-description and added 2 further links, but I have still left the old link.

I am very glad, that we ourselves can decide now, what we want to add as online service, and I am sure, You will find some more sites...

I have stopped by in this thread again now, and it is very interesting to see, that there are links as http and as https. I hope, that both kinds of links will work.

And I wish to know, if the manually added online services will also work, if Adobe Flash Player is not installed on the computer. I had made some replies in another thread and I had made some tests in Firefox on computers, which are possibly without this "plugin". I was able to play the music only on some of the music websites. On some other music websites the player didn't work.

I think, this question could be important also for the other fans of Winamp...

Winamp is fine with HTTPS addresses.
It uses the components of Internet Explorer to display web content.
If the page will not work in IE, it will not work in the Winamp browser.
Any sites that use flash or other plugin will still need it.

The music services I have pasted here do not integrate with Winamp properly, because they do not use the Winamp API.
They are just the most convenient streaming sites I found that functioned.
Some do offer direct links or playlists so you can use play them in Winamp properly.

I should look for others that use playlist files, or have direct links to the files.
These will be automatically opened by Winamp if it is set to handle them.
Mostly it is radio streams that use playlist files
eg. http://www.totalrock.com/live.m3u

Last.fm may become useful again, but for now I am sticking with Seesu.me.
This can at least create m3u playlists for use in Winamp

Mashups ? Smells like a lot of "Fishy Business" to me.

Really?
Is it possible to play an HTTPS URL by using File > Play URL... [Cntl + L]?
Any time I've tried, "Error syncing to stream" is displayed.
Please post a complete HTTPS URL that can be played in Winamp.

Good question....

Try this QI Elves podcast episode http://qi.com/podcast/
https://feeds.soundcloud.com/stream/...ft-carrier.mp3
It works for me.

The site and RSS feeds only give HTTP sources (this is normal), but does serve the files if you add an S
https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/s...353/sounds.rss
However, as noted the RSS does not contain HTTPS links.

Very few HTTPS sites serve the actual downloads via HTTPS, only the page or wrapper contents.
This is a big complaint of mine which I don't see improving in the next 5 years.

It works for me.
It works for me too, but stops after the one Podcast episode.
Winamp acts as if a file is being played, not a stream.

I wonder if anybody can find a continuous HTTPS stream that plays in Winamp.
If so, that's great.
If not, then my quibble is with the generality of the previous statement: "Winamp is fine with HTTPS addresses."

I understand that they are useable as an URL when creating an Online Service.

Obviously podcasts end, but streams also had a start and will end when someone switches it off.
Streams are files that you missed the begining of, and leave before it finishes.
The data format is arbitrary.

Here is the mp3 stream for my local radio station
http://live.canstream.co.uk:8000/sourcefm.mp3
If you try saving it, you will have to decide when to stop.

The main problem is as I say, almost nobody serves media vis HTTPS, only the site content.
Finding any HTTPS streams or media will be a problem.
I just chanced that soundcloud have the certificate set to include the subdomains.

First find any radio station that uses HTTPS, and serves the files from the same domain or sudomain.
Then you can use an HTTPS stream.

When it fails after manually adding an S, it is because the site does not have a valid certificate.

Show me.
Until a HTTPS URL can be shown to play in Winamp, it is disingenuous to say "Winamp is fine with HTTPS addresses."

...errr I just did.
You played the soundcloud link via HTTPS, thereby proving that Winamp can stream via HTTPS if the certificate is valid.
Souncloud uses a certificate minted for the site, so you can use the whole site via HTTPS, not just logins.

Show me your failed HTTPS radio streams, and I will show you a site without a certificate, or a matching certificate.
I bet if you try the problem site with an S, you get a fail in your web browser.
You will see the certificate belongs to Akamai or other CDN.

Just because a site will use HTTPS for logins, does not mean that the content will work via HTTPS.
NPR is an example https://www.npr.org/music/ will not work because the certificate does not match
Same for https://www.kcrw.com/music/shows/eclectic24

Those sites use HTTPS logins and you could force IE to accept the expired or wrong certificates for those sites (but no, you should never do that).

Here is your proof if you need more.
https://streaming.radionomy.com/Powe...eNewmetalRadio
It is just a non-stop mp3 file, seved from a site with a valid cert.

Thanks.
Radionomy is now geo-blocked in my location, like many other places in the world.
However, after switching locations with a VPN service, that link does play. [Cntl + L]
But the same stream plays after changing the prefix from HTTPS to HTTP.

...ummm, yes of course it does, and your problem is ?
It is not rocket surgery, that is how the web works. HTTPS is HTTP with TLS and a certificate
Unless the server admin has specifically set the server to deny non-authenticated connections, HTTP will always work.

Like I said already, you show me your failed streams, and I will show you a site without a valid certificate.
There is nothing more to it than that.

DrO, the former lead Winamp developer, discusses HTTPS streams in Winamp here:
https://getwinamp.com/blog/index.php...y160801-161955

He seems to think that that they don't work properly.

I don't know enough about such things to continue the discussion, but I'm sure he'd welcome your input through the comments section of his blog. (DrO won't respond here)

Maybe you can convince him that they work correctly so he doesn't waste time fixing something that isn't broken.
Or maybe he'll convince you that they don't work properly.

Thanks for the post.
My main problem I found is that so few streams are actually served via HTTPS, even though the host site uses it for login.
As you see I still only have 2, and both are served from Radionomy

The cloudflare certificate is using the newer style Eliptic Curve cypher.
IE8/WinXP will not open the link either.
Firefox has its own certificate store.
I recommend making your comparison with IE because it uses the OS certificate store like Winamp.

Helpful link but only slightly.

Come on people, someone must be able to find some more full HTTPS streams that are not Radionomy.
