Played it to death on the GBA a while back, much fun indeed for such a simple , non violent game.

GBA harvest moon was my first taste of it after having it recommended to me on numerous occasions by a good friend, I'm quite looking forward to a cube version, and seeing what I can unlock when I link up the GBA to it.

Farming

Planting and raising crops, raising animals, building your farm up, winning the girl of your dreams, cooking, mining, racing horses, playing frisbee with your dog etc etc etc

It sounds like it should be shite, but it's by far and away one of the most engrosing games I've ever played, it sucks you in totaly, and for such a simple game, with no violence and no real objective, well apart from ending up with the girl of your dreams and getting married, it's just fantastic.

It's hard work to get started, but once your farm is running smoothly and you have your hired help working away doing all the mundane stuff, it leaves you free to explore all the little sub plots and so on.

On the gba it's played in a sort of 2d top down, slightly skewed view, while the cube version is played out in full on glorious 3d, GBA and cube versions are linkable to transfer game details and charachters between the two.

It's an excellent example of Nintendo thinking outside the norm, as they normaly do, and coming up with a very unique style of game.

I have a friend who is nuts about HM, and has played them on various nintendo formats, he raved about it to me for a couple of years before I tried a GBA version, and as I said, it just sucked me in , the hours flew past when I started playing it.

I heartily recommend it if you want a game that is a bit different to the normal run of the mill things you might see in the shops.

There is also a PS2 version around with slightly differing gameplay to regular HM games, but I couldn't comment on that as it's a US/Japan release only, no sign of it in Europe, other than on import.

Question for those who have played the GBA verions;

I just hit the 1 year mark in the game and my horse is still not grown. How long does it generally take?

About 120 days or so, but...Barley should come back around at the end of the year to see how the horse is getting on, it's it's got less than 4 hearts for it's freindship level he will get pissy and take it away, but he comes back next year with a fully grown one.

By the way, more heart levels = Better chance of winning races.
