This would indicate you have not properly forwarded your ports 8000 & 8001 in the router to the LAN IP address of the PC with shoutcast.

hello..

Zath here from WARP Radio Network

(I want to apolgize to the forum admins as I accidently posted this letter in the wrong place.. sorry I have re-posted it here in the correct place.. again sorry for my error!!)

I have an interesting problem here.. now, it appears simular to another thread here reguarding the following error; but I assure you... its not as simular as it appears...

you have all seen THIS error before (noted in the other threads I have read)

[01-Oct-2004 00:29:36] icy-error: Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 161.58.164.241:10000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out)

I say "simular" because this is NOT a home computer behind a NAT router or firewall, but in fact is a Verio rented server on the backbone!

As of 3 months ago, this WAS working.. but it seems that you have nade a change that now DISABLES my ability to reach the shoutcast directory!

the server is, in fact VERY visable to the internet as my website and audio server are located there (and I CAN log into the audio streams just fine and so can my listeners!)

I have tried changing the yport to 666 with no avail

I have tried changing the cast port(s) to no avail

I have tried using the HOST (warp-radio.com) to no avail

I have tried using the IP (161.58.164.241) to no avail

I have tried using localhost and 127.0.0.1 to no avail...

I would actually like to invite you to my irc chat server (irc.warp-radio.com #WARP-Radio) for a more detailed discussion..

but heres the situation as to what I THINK is causing the problem, I would like, at least a conformation on this....

first, a little explanation...

In the past, I had a problem with the "X+1 exploit" where the input port (say 8001 for example) gets DDoSed- so badly, that the station gets KNOCKED off the air..
This happens EXPECIALLY when I appear on the "top 25" page of the s`cast directory! (Now, before you think that I can't handle the load.. thats not the case! I have a holding load of 10,000 streams distributed accross 8 servers on 25 OC12's!)

"X+1 exploit" is a SERIOUS SECURITY HOLE in the ICY protocol and EVERY hacker KNOWS this!!! and its a FACT that some (a-hem) "other" shoutcast stations use this to ATTACK other stations... noted to those that "hone-in" to their slots...

To combat this, I have come up with a way to "proxy" the audio feeds and, in turn, completely ISOLATE the input port/ip from the output port/ip.. this ELIMINATES THE X+1 EXPLOIT and PREVENTS hackers from simply "ddosing the X+1 port" I know that the "big boys" also do something simular to this as they HAVE to- but they also cannot use LIVE streaming as I can! (I'm referring to their inability to stream to a remote server network without the network being on site for live streaming)

anyhow, I have had this system in place for a couple years.. includeing the isolation proxy- with the exception of the assigment of X+1.. only recently have I employed the ability to RE-ASSIGN the input X=1 port to a "nulled" port thus eliminating this exploit that exists in ALL shoutcast servers/systems.

My question is:

I have been trying to determine if, in fact, that yp pings or receives a connection from the HOST computer on the x+1 port.. and I cannot determine if, yp uses the portbase, x+1, or a "special" port (like 80) to "call to base"... if port 80 is used, I know what the problem is as the server uses port 80 for the website! (I don't think the developers would have been "asleep at the wheel" to miss that one!)

Does yp "probe" the X+1 port on the HOST to varify connection? and, if so, WHY/How does this help? I would see this as a means of someone using yp do DDoS a rival station! Is this the case?

if you would like a better understanding and demonstration please see me in my chat server (same ip as the audio host!)

heres a list of my links try them out for yourself!

warp-radio.com:10000 (manual entry)
http://www/warp-radio.com/feed-128.pls (click-n-go)
irc.warp-radio.com:6667 (irc chat server)

http://www.warp-radio.com/system.html (my status panel!)

and just plain old http://www.warp-radio.com for my website (its a simple page dedicated to an upcoming event)

you can see the audio proxy in action.. and, you will be AMAZED on how WELL the system works! (asside of the yp issue)

I would like to chat with you requarding this issue...

Thanks in advance for your time!

I'm having the yp. issue... However, my box isn't using a router/etc.

I have changed the DEST= and SRC= vars to both be ANY and my IP. Neither work. I -CAN- telnet IP 8000 to it.

Well kids..

I have researched this....

The only thing I can come up with is that they have set it up so that only the "internal hostname" can be used.. why they did this, I donno.. but now it seems that only directly-connected machines- running DSPs to the DNAS directly and unprotected.. is the only way it will work.. Computers using "virtual IPs or Virtual Hostnames" will NOT work (these include rented shells and CO-LOs) So, unless you're a MEGA MILLION DOLLAR station, that can afford your OWN OC25... or a very tiny station using one computer connected directly to the cable/DSL modem thats NOT using DHCP.. are the only ones who seem be be "seen" by yp...
Stations using DHCP, multicast, multiple computers, routeing, or remote servers on virtual IPs and Hostmasks CANNOT work.. This is due to a change on the yp end of things.. this also opens the station to a serious security risk.

I'm afraid we're just "out of luck" on this one

ANYONE HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THIS ONE. I HAVE THIS person that gets the same message:
<12/05/02@16:12:01> [main] opening source socket
<12/05/02@16:12:02> [main] error opening source socket! FATAL ERROR! Some other process is using this port

Weve tried everything and i mean everything and still cant get it to work.

he has a windows Xp pro and the firewall is disabled, he also had a antivirus, we disabled it and nothing. He is not going through a router, or a proxy. No other program running and we dont have a clue what is causing this problem.
We even tried switching the ports from 8000-80025 and he restarted the Shoutcast server log evertime and nothing.

I've been having a problem. I managed to set everything up just fine. My server is up and running, and it tells me that everything is fine. I fowarded ports 8000 and 8001 through my router. From the outside everything looks fine (I'm even listed in the list of broadcasters complete with the current song), but nobody can connect to me. Any ideas?

Hello at all!

First sorry my english .

Well, i have two PCs (in a LAN) and DSL connection. I use a 3Com 812 DSL Router, in NAT, because my ISP provides me a dynamic IP, and I can only connect in NAT Mode.

In PC 1 I have WinXP. I use port 8100 with Shoutcast. This port (8100) is open in the router. I don´t have any problem to broadcast music in this PC.

In PC 2 I have Win98 SE. I need to have another port open in the router. Well, I open port 8110 and use the same port in the Shoutcast DSP (8110). I think all is correctly configurated in the router, Shoutcast DSP and sc_server.ini. I can't broadcast from this PC. The famous error message appears .

What's the matter? What is the problem?

I have read all from this topic, but I can't resolve my problem.

Okay, I know you get this all the time, and I'm sorry to ask you again: How do you make this thing work?

I am trying to run the server on the same computer I'm using right now, with the winamp broadcast also on. The connection between winamp's shoutcast plugin and the server is fine, but I get the nak error. The IP addy is right, the firewall's off, and as far's I can tell, the whole port forwarding is right.

I'm using an ActionTec GT701-WG DSL modem through Qwest DSL w/ MSN, if any of that matters, and I set the internal IP of the only computer hooked to it to be static at '192.168.0.250'. The dynamic range is set between .0.1 and .0.249, and the W$XP firewall is set to allow port 5000 (the port the server's set to), and 'sc_serv.exe'. IE is set to allow everything from 'yp.shoutcast.com'. What have I failed to do, or done wrong that accounts for this still not working?

Yea so I looked all over this thread and its sad there 6 pages of this stuff. I am not new to network issues and computers but however this is my first shoutcast server. I have windows xp but I disabled the firewall so thats not it. I also have Norton Personal Firewall so I disabled that and thats still didnt fix it. I have a router, a Linksys BEFSR41 and I worked around forwarding the needed ports but shoutcast still couldnt see my computer. So now Im connecting through the internet without the router so thats not it either!? One thing is that Im currently enrolled at the University at Buffalo and I thought maybe the school's firewall was causing shoutcast.com to be blocked. I talked to our CIT people and they tried to get me to forward my ports with the router, this is when I had the router set up.
So ok, my question is whats going on here. Im trying to get this server up for a project that Im doing for Programming for the Web. I've changed the config file manny times and its back to normal now. Heres what Ive changed:
changed PortBase
changed Destination Ip
The biggest thing when I had the router set up is that It gives me a 192 ip address for the internet. My campus LAN network gives my computer a 128 ip address. SO therefore I have two, one for Lan and one for the internet. The router was just pissing me off so I can get around it by not using it all, I basically used it to hook up my xbox to the internet.
SO shoutcast still cant see my computer so if anyone could help, it would be really appreciated, Ive tried tons of things but Ill try tons more to fix this, I need this to work.

If...

If it's so possible that I am connected to the Windows firewall, how could I turn it off?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Set up

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

; SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server configuration file
; Copyright (C) 1998-2001 Nullsoft, Inc.
; All Rights Reserved.
; Last modified Jul 23 2001

; If you want to manage multiple configurations, just copy
; this file to another name, and run sc_serv with that name
; such as:
; sc_serv.exe sc_leet.conf

; ***************************
; Required stuff
; ***************************

; MaxUser. The maximum number of simultaneous listeners allowed.
; Compute a reasonable value for your available upstream bandwidth (i.e. if
; you have 256kbps upload DSL, and want to broadcast at 24kbps, you would
; choose 256kbps/24kbps=10 maximum listeners.) Setting this value higher
; only wastes RAM and screws up your broadcast when more people connect
; than you can support.
MaxUser=4

; Password. While SHOUTcast never asks a listener for a password, a
; password is required to broadcast through the server, and to perform
; administration via the web interface to this server. This server should
; consist of only letters and numbers, and is the same server your broadcaster
; will need to enter in the SHOUTcast Source Plug-in for Winamp. THIS VALUE
; CANNOT BE BLANK.
Password=42959509

; PortBase. This is the IP port number your server will run on. The
; value, and the value + 1 must be available. If you get a fatal error when
; the DNAS is setting up a socket on startup, make sure nothing else on the
; machine is running on the same port (telnet localhost portnumber -- if you
; get connection refused then you're clear to use that port). Ports < 1024
; may require root privledges on *nix machines. The default port is 8000.
PortBase=8000

; ***************************
; Optional Parameters
; ***************************

; ***************************
; Logging configuration
; ***************************

; LogFile: file to use for logging. Can be '/dev/null' or 'none'
; or empty to turn off logging. The default is ./sc_serv.log
; on *nix systems or sc_serv_dir\sc_serv.log on win32.
; Note: on win32 systems if no path is specified the location is
; in the same dir as the executable, on *nix systems it is in the
; current directory.
LogFile=sc_serv.log

; RealTime displays a status line that is updated every second
; with the latest information on the current stream (*nix and win32
; console systems only)
RealTime=1

; ScreenLog controls whether logging is printed to the screen or not
; on *nix and win32 console systems. It is useful to disable this when
; running servers in background without their own terminals. Default is 1
ScreenLog=1

; ShowLastSongs specifies how many songs to list in the /played.html
; page. The default is 10. Acceptable entries are 1 to 20.
ShowLastSongs=10

; HistoryLog: file to use for history logging. Can be '/dev/null' or
; 'none' or empty to turn off history logging.
; History logging is used for the nifty web-based graph of listeners,
; too.
HistoryLog=sc_hist.log

; HistoryTime specifies the interval in seconds of history logging.
; This effects the granularity and update frequency of the web-based
; graph, as well. The default is 30.
HistoryLogTime=30

; TchLog decides whether or not the DNAS logfile should track yp
; directory touches. Adds and removes still appear regardless of
; this setting.
; Default is yes
; TchLog=yes

; WebLog decides whether or not hits to http:// on this DNAS will
; be logged. Most people leave this off because the DSP plug-in
; uses http:// calls to update titles and get the listener count,
; which takes up a lot of log space eventually. If you want to
; see people making hits on your admin.cgi or index pages, turn
; this back on. Note that this setting does NOT affect XML stats
; counters for hits to http:// pages.
; Default is no.
; WebLog=no

; ***************************
; Network configuration
; ***************************

; SrcIP, the interface to listen for source connections on (or to make relay
; connections on if relaying). Can and usually will be ANY or 127.0.0.1
; (Making it 127.0.0.1 will keep other machines from being able to
; broadcast using your shoutcast server )
SrcIP=127.0.0.1

; DestIP, IP to listen for clients on (and to contact yp.shoutcast.com)
; can and usually will be be ANY. If your machine has multiple IP addresses,
; set this to the one you want it to be accessed by.
DestIP=ANY

; Yport, port to connect to yp.shoutcast.com on. For people behind caching
; webproxies, change this to the alternate port (666 is what it might be,
; check www.shoutcast.com if you have problems). Otherwise, leave this at 80.
; We're actively working on re-opening port 666, but as of release the only
; working port is port 80.
Yport=80

; NameLookups. Specify 1 to perform reverse DNS on connections.
; This option may increase the time it takes to connect to your
; server if your DNS server is slow. Default is 0 (off).
NameLookups=1

; RelayPort and RelayServer specify that you want to be a relay server.
; Relay servers act as clients to another server, and rebroadcast.
; Set RelayPort to 0, RelayServer to empty, or just leave these commented
; out to disable relay mode.
; RelayPort=8000
; RelayServer=192.168.1.58

; ***************************
; Server configuration
; ***************************

; AdminPassword. This password (if specified) changes the
; behavior of Password to be a broadcast-only password, and
; limits HTTP administration tasks to the password specified
; here. The broadcaster, with the password above, can still
; log in and view connected users, but only the AdminPassword
; will grant the right to kick, ban, and specify reserve hosts.
; The default is undefined (Password allows control for both
; source and admin)
; AdminPassword=adminpass

; AutoDumpUsers controls whether listeners are disconnected if the source
; stream disconnects. The default is 0.
AutoDumpUsers=0

; AutoDumpSourceTime specifies how long, in seconds, the source stream is
; allowed to be idle before the server disconnects it. 0 will let the source
; stream idle indefinately before disconnecting. The default is 30.
AutoDumpSourceTime=30

; ContentDir specifies the directory location on disk of where to stream
; on-demand content from. Subdirectories are supported as of DNAS 1.8.2.
; Default is ./content, meaning a directory named content in the same directory
; as where sc_serv was invoked from.
; ContentDir=./content

; IntroFile can specify a mp3 file that will be streamed to listeners right
; when they connect before they hear the live stream.
; Note that the intro file MUST be the same samplerate/channels as the
; live stream in order for this to work properly. Although bitrate CAN
; vary, you can use '%d' to specify the bitrate in the filename
; (i.e. C:\intro%d.mp3 would be C:\intro64.mp3 if you are casting at 64kbps).
; The default is no IntroFile
; IntroFile=c:\intro%d.mp3

; BackupFile can specify a mp3 file that will be streamed to listeners over
; and over again when the source stream disconnects. AutoDumpUsers must be
; 0 to use this feature. When the source stream reconnects, the listeners
; are rejoined into the live broadcast.
; Note that the backup file MUST be the same samplerate/channels as the
; live stream in order for this to work properly. Although bitrate CAN
; vary, you can use '%d' to specify the bitrate in the filename
; (i.e. C:\backup%d.mp3 would be C:\backup32.mp3 if you are casting at 32kbps).
; The default is no BackupFile
; BackupFile=C:\intro%d.mp3

; TitleFormat specifies a format string for what title is sent to the listener.
; For example, a string of 'Justin Radio' forces the title 'Justin Radio' even
; when the source changes the title. You can use up to one '%s' in the string
; which lets you contain the title from the source. For example, if your
; TitleFormat is 'Justin Radio: %s', and the source plug-in's title is
; 'Billy plays the blues', then the net title is
; 'Justin Radio: Billy plays the blues'. Note: only works on non-relay servers.
; The default is no format string.
; TitleFormat=Justin Radio: %s

; URLFormat specifies a format string for what url is sent to the listener.
; Behaves like TitleFormat (see above).
; The default is no format string.
; URLFormat=http://www.server.com/redirect.cgi?url=%s

; PublicServer can be always, never, or default (the default, heh)
; Any setting other than default will override the public status
; of the source plug-in or of a SHOUTcast server that is being relayed.
PublicServer=default

; AllowRelay determines whether or not other SHOUTcast servers will be
; permitted to relay this server. The default is Yes.
AllowRelay=Yes

; AllowPublicRelay, when set to No, will tell any relaying servers not
; to list the server in the SHOUTcast directory (non-public), provided
; the relaying server's Public flag is set to default. The default is
; Yes.
AllowPublicRelay=Yes

; MetaInterval specifies how often, in bytes, metadata sent.
; You should really leave this at the default of 8192, but the option is
; provided anyway.
MetaInterval=8192

; *****************************
; Access Control
; *****************************

; ListenerTimer is a value in minutes of maximum permitted time for
; a connected listener. If someone is connected for longer than this
; amount of time, in minutes, they are disconnected. When undefined,
; there is no limit defined. Default is undefined.
; ListenerTimer=600

; BanFile is the text file sc_serv reads and writes to/from
; for the list of clients prohibited to connect to this
; server. It's automatically generated via the web
; interface.
; BanFile=sc_serv.ban

; RipFile is the text file sc_serv reads and writes to/from
; for the list of client IPs which are *ALWAYS* permitted
; to connect to this server (useful for relay servers).
; This file is automatically generated via the web
; interface. Note that if your server is FULL, and someone
; from a Reserved IP connects, the DNAS will force the person
; listening for the longest time off to make room for the new
; connection.
; RipFile=sc_serv.rip

; *****************************
; Extended Logging (CurrentLog)
; *****************************

; CurrentLog logging lets you specify an HTML template and have
; the SHOUTcast server generate a file from it.

; Template keywords:
; "<!-- LISTENERS -->" number of listeners
; "<!-- MAXLISTENERS -->" server configured maximum listeners
; "<!-- LISTENERTABLE -->" a simple table of listeners
; "<!-- GENRE -->" the current genre string
; "<!-- DESCRIPTION -->" the current description string
; "<!-- URL -->" the current URL string
; "<!-- HITS -->" the number of hits since server was started
; "<!-- CURRENTSONG -->" the current song name

; CurrentLogIn is the input (template) file
; CurrentLogIn=c:\hi.in
; CurrentLogOut is the output file. Put it somewhere where another
; web server can get at it (sorry, http://server/current.html isn't
; supported any longer)
; CurrentLogOut=C:\hi.html
; CurrentLogTime is the update frequency, in seconds
; CurrentLogTime=30

; ***************************
; Mass Configuration
; ***************************

; Unique: assigns a variable name for use in any config item which points to a
; file. Useful for servers running lots of SHOUTcast servers that have similar
; configuration parameters, excepting logfile names, banfile names, etc. Any
; parameter that takes a pathname can include the character $, which will
; substitute $ for the variable assigned here. Keep in mind that the unique
; variable can only be used after it is defined, so don't try to use a unique
; variable substitution in a path before you define it. For example, you
; could set:
; Unique=my_server
; and then define Log=/usr/local/shoutcast/$.log in an included configuration
; file. Default is Unique=$, so that by default any file with $ in the name
; won't substitute anything at all.

; Include: instructs the sc_serv to read from the named configuration file,
; *at the point of insertion of the Include statement*, and process as though
; the included file was part of itself. Note that all configuration parameters
; in the DNAS config file are processed first to last, so if an item is defined
; twice in a configuration, the last item to process will be the one that takes
; effect. For this reason, it's usually a good idea to use the Includes first
; in a config file.
; example:
; Include=/usr/local/shoutcast/common.conf
; Default is not applicable.

; *****************************
; Tweaks
; *****************************
;
; DON'T MESS WITH THIS STUFF UNLESS YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
; DON'T COMPLAIN TO US IF YOU MESS WITH IT AND THINGS BREAK.
; HAVE A NICE DAY.

; CpuCount is used to explicitly limit the DNAS to dominating a finite
; amount of processors in multiprocessor systems. By default,
; SHOUTcast creates one thread for every processor it detects in the
; host system, and assigns listeners equally across all the threads.
; In the event SHOUTcast doesn't correctly determine the number of
; CPUs in your host, or if you for whatever reason want to force
; the DNAS to not use other processors, you can say so here.
; Default behavior is to use as many processors as the DNAS detects on
; your system.
; CpuCount=1

; Sleep defines the granularity of the client threads for sending data.
; DNAS 1.7.0, per client thread, will send up to 1,024 bytes of data
; per socket (or less depending on the window available), and then
; sleep for the provided duration before repeating the whole process.
; Note that making this value smaller will vastly increase CPU usage on
; your machine. Increasing reduces CPU, but increasing this value too far
; will cause skips. The value which seems most optimal for 128kbps
; streaming is 833 (833 microseconds per client poll) on our test labs.
; We wouldn't recommend setting it any lower than 100, or any higher than
; 1,024. If you have a slower machine, set this number lower to fix
; skips.
; Default value is 833.
; Sleep=833

Hey all,

I have run into a bit of a problem concerning the extended error thingy. Now, before you chop my head off, let me just say that I have been reading the documentation and trying different things for the past nine hours straight. Even so, nothing seems to work....it's like taking 1 step forward, and 2 steps back. A few notes about my configuation.....I am not on a router, do not have a firewall, and am not behind a proxy that I know of. ISP is BellSouth. Here is what I get when I try to broadcast.

Event log:

I can't figure out why I can't broadcast off this computer. I have another computer at home (in CT, presently vacationing in FL) that I broadcast off of, and it has no problems whatsoever! Please, somebody help me before I go COMPLETELY INSANE!!!

You do have a firewall, you just don't know where it is.
It's either hardware (router/modem) or software (windows, black ice or some virus scanner). Find out where it is, deactivate it or configure it properly.

Don't reply saying you don't have one or I'll just lock this thread.
