Launching sc_serv: Permission denied

Hey,

I'm trying to launch the DNAS on linux with the command:

./sc_serv config_file_name.conf

But I'm getting a response of:
bash: ./sc_serv: Permission denied

Not sure why this is happening. I am logged in as root and am using Putty, bash, and Red Hat 7.2.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
rg.

change the permissions on the binary and config to make it executable/readable by the user you are logged in as.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me how to do so? Through SSH? FTP?

Thanks,
rg.

EDIT: Can I chmod to 777 through FTP?

No, I do not think you can chmod file attributes through an FTP client. You should be able to do that via ssh and your favorite shell.

yes. that will work. It is what I do, though linux gurus will tell you it is overkill because it gives the user more access than they need.

Remembering 777 is too easy though .... who wants to remember random numbers????

You're right. I wonder if 744 will work (read+write+execute to owner, read-only to everyone else).

Thanks,
rg.

yes, I think it should .... but then you would have to give up your lucky sevens

Glad to be helpful (for once!).

Cheers!

If you`re trying to run sc_serv on a 64bit machine you have to install the 32bit libaries.

Is there anymore to your log than what you have posted?

Your last bit shows no errors, so it is a little hard to tell what is going on.

ok, well I see sc_trans is connecting (or some source). If you are running sc_trans, then post those logs. It seems as if your source can not find anything to play.

(i thought you only need it when you use mp3 that are already uploaded on the server no?)

and to play stuff i use winamp with Shoutstream plugin

i had this working before but accidentally deleted shoutcast folder under root directory on the server,

and had to reload and set it up again and now im f-ed

You need to somehow provide the shoutcast server with a source. Generally, either sc_trans or the winamp dsp is used to do this.

Again, looking at the logs, I don't see a source connecting, so I am guessing that is your problem. Either that, you are have not clicked the play button in winamp to actually start the streaming.

Hello again

yes i do understand that i need to provide shoutcast with the source
and that is exactly what im doing i have the dsp plusgin configured
it seems like the sc_serv is not getting that signal ....
its the weirdest thing ever

like i previously mentioned i had this configured before and everything worked perfectly (from time to time i had to kill the process and restart sc_ser - ut that would be once every 2-3 weeks)

im clueless how i can resolve this issue... i think in this case whats left is to contact the people who developed the shoutcast and ask them for help...

also quick question would it be possible that it has something to do with new version of winamp??

this problem as been solved

my provider bluehost recently has installed new firewall

i had to ask them to whitelist the ports

(i would never expect something like this to happen, they should notify their clients about it)

but anywho everything is working fine and i invite you all to check out

http://www.justqualitymusic.com

cheers!

Sorry I dropped the ball on this thread. As I am sure you have guessed, this does not have anything to do with the new version of winamp.

As you have figured out, your source was never able to connect due to the firewall, which is what made me curious as to what was going on because I never saw connection attempts in your logs.

Anyway, I am glad you got everything sorted out!

FYI, an alternitive method to kill the shoutcast process is using the pkill command
code:
pkill sc_serv
the above code will kill all processes matching "sc_serv"

I saw that you mentioned that I have to replace the 64 bits libraries with 32 bits . How to do that? I am trying to run sc_serv on fedora 11 64 bits.
Please help

You need to install the 32bit compatability libraries for your distro.

I don't use rpm based distros, so I can't be of much help, but you ought to be able to search the fedora repositories for 32 bit and get a hit.

"ve checked my PMs and your log look fine. You have gotten sc_serv running. However, it is going to sleep because you have not connected a source to dnas. You would need sc_trans to do this or winamp + the shoutcast dsp.
