Playlist problem

Okey, so I have got a problem that when I load files to playlist and while it's reading the title names, windows finds an error and winamp must be shut down, the problem probably is that winamp cant read a file or something like that. dont know. It always gets jammed up while I am loading files to media player. Always on the 54%. Probably the same thing. It used to work on the old winamp, but not with the new 5.5 one. I also have another problem. I used the old playlist I created with the old winamp and added files to the playlist and everytime I click a file and select it and deselect it by clicking a another song, the title disappears and the song length goes to 0:00, or sometimes it clones another title for example ATB - Don't Stop to every song I click. I had the same problem with one of the old winamps age's ago. So if anyone has had the same problem and has been able to solve it please help me. Thanks.

Information required when posting --> List Of Plugins

The 2nd problem (maybe the first one as well?) is caused by using an old version of the 3rd-party Drag+Drop plugin. Check for updates here.

If not using that plugin, then it must be some other 3rd-party plugin to blame.

Just found a plugin that is also newly broken. As far as I can tell it's caused by the new location for 'winamp.m3u'.
Sounds like yours may be a similar problem.

Wow, a whole heap of 3rd-party plugins

If the crash doesn't occur when none of the following are present, then it's up to you to find out which is responsible:

<< General Purpose plugins >>

FastCode Software AutoPlay Winamp Plug-in v2.3.2 [gen_autoplay.dll]
Deleter v2.5 [gen_delete.dll]
KeyControl v1.02 [gen_KeyControl.dll]
Lyrics Plugin [gen_lyrics.dll]
madStats Statistics Plugin V1.2 [gen_madstats.dll]
MSN Messenger Music Plugin (by TheBlasphemer) [gen_MSN.dll]
PEPper v1.0 (History, Top10 & other spices) [gen_pepper.dll]
Playlist-Unpacker Plugin v1.6 [gen_Playlist-Unpacker Plugin.dll]
Samurize Info Plugin 1.61 [gen_samurizeinfo.dll]
QuickSearch Plugin [gen_search.dll]
SleepTimer 0.1 [gen_sleep_timer.dll]
Tips v0.4 [gen_tips.dll]
Winstick v1.22 [gen_winstick.dll]

<< Media Library plugins >>

ATF Extender v0.4 [ml_atfext.dll]
QuickTracks v0.5c [ml_qt.dll]
Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin v2, 0, 30, 0 (ML Mode) [ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll]

Also note:

Although probably nothing to do with the problem at hand, the following plugin is deprecated (no longer required), as the feature is natively implemented in 5.5

ML Lite-n v1.0 [ml_lite_n.dll]

@ujay

Which plugin?

Hmm, there probably should still be a copy of winamp.m3u in the Winamp program folder, but still, I guess it's up to the author(s) to update their plugin(s) for multi-user support.

I was just about to suggest banzq try disabling gen_lyrics.dll as a start.

The one I had the problem with was gen_lyric3.dll

Okey, when I was adding songs to the medialibrary or playlist it crashed so I quessed the problem would be in a single song. I divided all my songs in to 6 folders and added the folders separately and found out that in which folder the "broken" file was. Then I again divided the songs in to 6 folders and so on before I found the songs that were broken. There were 3 songs altogether and I tried to find out why those songs did not work with winamp. But I did not find anything special from those songs. The didn't have any special characters and they all were mp3's and they worked fine with another player (BSPlayer). But I deleted those files and solved the problem.

@DJ Egg

I don't think that the 1st problem is caused by a plugin because I installed a clean version of Winamp 5.5 to the directory .../Program Files/Winamp2 and it had no extra plugins and the adding did not work either with the "clean" winamp.

Please could you upload a sample file that crashes Winamp to one of stashbox.org, mediafire.com or sendspace.com and post the download link here.

Don't worry if the link just shows as "url submitted by user", as that is just part of our anti-spam policy for anyone with a Junior Member status. Admin & moderators can still see the url.

Crash bug is now fixed for the next release. Thanks again.

5.51 whatsnew

* Fixed: [in_mp3] ID3v2 parsing crash with some mp3's

Hmm, I guess it would be nice if we could upload the fixed in_mp3 somewhere. I'll ask the powers that be, but if they say 'No', then this paragraph will just disappear. But please don't ask when 5.51 will be released. When it's ready and as soon as possible is the only answer I can give.

in_mp3 patch for Winamp 5.5
http://stashbox.org/44502/Winamp55_MP3_Patch.exe

Please confirm the fix

If a crash still occurs, then we will need a link to a sample file.

[Edit -> 20th March 2008]

The above patch was intended for v5.5 only, and is not to be used for any newer Winamp version (ie. not for 5.51 or 5.52 etc etc).

Hello there
I've got the exact same crash with the actual Winamp 5.52
I used the patch postet above but Winamp is still crashing.
Uploaded the file which causes the crash here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?gwd1tgeggbc

[EDIT] Would be nice to know if someone cares ... don't know if this is/was the right thread[/EDIT]

Yup, Winamp crashes as soon as I try to just drop that file into the playlist.

winamp caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module in_mp3.dll at 001b:13012ffe

It plays fine in other players though (WMP10, foobar, etc)

I'll get it looked into. Thanks.

[EDIT]

Hmm...

Encoded by RioPort MP3 2.0

ID3 tag types: ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.F

There is no such thing as v2.F, hence the crash....

We'll have this fixed for 5.53 (maybe even in the next public beta, if there is one).
Basically, we'll do as other players do, and just ignore that bad ID3v2.F tag...

Ok, edited the files (found some more) with "The Godfather" and left no tags than Artist and Title.
Works fine for me now ...
