I think you could with the very very early alphas of WA3, I'm sure there were some cursor tags in it like you say.

I also remember seeing a skin , again might have been a wa3 one, that did something clever with maki that moved an object around on the skin that followed the regular cursor, so it behaved and looked like a skinned cursor, was pretty messy though if I remember rightly.

I stand by my original "probably not" however, as I don't recall seeing any skinned cursors out there over the last few years and I'm sure if it were possible we would see them in every skin.

Shame really, I liked skinned cursors in classic skins.

I'm trying to remember the reason why cursors were ditched, might have had something to do with the portability of skins to other platforms, had Winamp3 and Wasabi gone the way it was supposed to, is the .cur/.ani a common format across platforms like Linux/Mac or is it a windows specific format ?, if it's windows specific then it would/might have borked up skins when they were used on say the linux version

hhhmm, a good question. i guess they are crossover for all paltforms since most of the graphic files are made for all paltforms i guess these both file types could also be made for all paltforms.

It is in wasabi xml reference docks but i'm sure it doesnt work. I'm not entirely sure but i think you can define a 32-bit png as a cursor so it would work cross-platform.

i think im out of topic here, but a quick question:
is it possible to have different system cursors on hover on some objects. like for example the resize cursors. i could do it with resize="" tag but it resizes the skin. is there any other tag that could do this?

They weren't ditched, although nobody (as far as i know) uses them, they *should* work... Hmm, i'm going from memory here, but try this (in an element block) :

<cursor id="cursor_id" bitmap="element_id_or_filename" hotspot_x="0" hotspot_y="0" />

then add cursor="cursor_id" to an object, and it should use the corresponding image as a cursor... (you should obviously use 32x32 images for that).

Hmm.. I think I remember hearing about w95 issues with this code, I'm not sure tho. Try it out

cool. ill try this out!!! thanks Francis.

EDIT:

... um another question, is it possible to use system cursors instead? and not bitmaps? like resize cursors, or wait cursors, text cursors etc..

Very nice,thx Francis.
Does anyone know how to have a cursor for the background of a container,instead of a button?
I have tried this:

<layout id="normal" w="336" h="133" droptarget="pldr">
<layer id="MainBase" image="player.normal.background" x="0" y="0" sysregion="1" />
<!-- curtest -->
<button
id="blabla"
action=""
x="0" y="0"
image="player.normal.background"
cursor="cursor.test"
/>

it works but i can't drag my player.

Hmmm, I tried a 32x32 png, got an exception breakpoint error each time I entered the button area.....

I then tried a 32x32 cur, got an exception breakpoint error each time I entered the button area........

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

/hmmm, I got the png one working, slight typo on the elements, however it dosn't seem to want to recognise the alpha channel that the png is saved with, anyone else getting this? or is this just a side effect?

/goes to play futher...

Can anyone get it working on an animatedlayer object as well?, say for instance an animated button/slider?

Can't/Won't do it here for me, reverts back to standard system cursor.

alpha channels seems to be fine in my box though jones. it even have alpha blending outside the skin region with dta off.

it works on buttons, text and sliders (so far on what i have tested). it does not work though on layers. any ideas?

Hmm, I turned DTA back on by default, still have a black box around my cursor.

Can you post up a copy of the actual cursor you are using ? just so I can have a look see what's different about it.

Running this on Win2k as well by the way, what's everyone else using.

Chronic, that works here, as you said it would, now I'm back on my home machine , XP pro SP2, I wonder if it's having problems on 2k then.

I didn't actually bring home the skin I was testing it on, I'll try that next I guess.

Great as it is, still an issue with it working on layers however, I'd rather have no cursors than patchy ones that only work on parts of the skin itself.

/edit, tested my original cursor on the same skin I was working on today at home, and yes it now works, windows 2k issue maybe?

Nope, can't get it working on Win2k at all , If I use chronics test skin back there, all you get is the same black block around the rest of the cursor.

Guessing it dosn't work at all in 2k, gah.
