Winamp Essentials & reset Format converter questions

Not sure if I have posted this in the correct place. If not, I apologise.

I have Winamp 5.666 but I can't find the essentials to go with it. Anyone have a link?

My other question is that I have just started using the format converter in Winamp. I have tinkered with the MP3 encoder and would like to 'reset' the options back to default. Could some one tell me the default or tell me how to reset them back to when I installed Winamp please?

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

1. Essentials isn't available anymore and we won't post a link here, sorry.

2. You can remove the section from your winamp.ini file.

- Close Winamp
- navigate to your Winamp config dir (usually C:\Users\YourName\Appdata\Roaming\Winamp)
you can use the Winamp Info Tool for quick access to the folder too
- open winamp.ini with a text editor
- delete anything within the section: [audio_mp3l]
- save the ini file
- start Winamp

I searched the .ini for [audio_mp3l] or even audio and nothing came up as that.

I've attached the winamp.ini file to your posting, so that the thread stays readable.

My bad sorry, you can find [audio_mp3l] in ml_transcode.ini, I forgot, that the transcoder and cd-ripping are using separate encoder settings. Otherwise the steps in my previous posting are still correct. You can find that ini in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Winamp\Plugins\ml

Though, here are the prefs, so that you can compare:

That's great. Thanks for the help. Am I right in saying that there is no difference in switching between Quality settings like alt presets etc any more? That is what I read any way.

I've edited my own posting.

As I know, 'alt-preset fast-standard' is still the recommenced preset for best quality and speed for LAME.

Sadly the Winamp MP3 Encoder could need a prefs cleanup, there are just too many options and it's confusing for users. Usually, only selecting the preset should do it. Someone may want to correct me, but I'm even not sure, if the minimum and maximum bitrate settings have any effect, when you are using a preset.
