Simple output plugin (for DPC minidisc auto track inserts)

Hi, what i'm trying to do is to create a very simple output plugin that will add a short delay between the opening of the output device and the playing of the song.

This is to address the problem of the sony Digital PCLink, which sometimes cuts off the beginning of a song if it plays immediately (for the mp3s that are encoded with no lead-in silence).

I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I looked at the out_minisdk, but it wasn't very clear about selecting output devices. I also looked at Gapless Output, but this didn't allow selection of output devices either.

I'm also not very clear on exactly how the output plugin opens and closes the output device, and how it starts the play of the file.... I think it's probably very simple for someone who knows what he's doing, but unfortunately, i don't. =P

So if anyone could help me with this, i'd appreciate it very much. thanks. =)

Ok, i have a question.

in my code, what i did was i took the nullsoft waveout plugin and used that. basically, all i did was call open(args here), and sleep(500) before returning.

this seemed to have the effect i wanted (but the visualization is jumpy now), except the DPC still doesnt start recording until the file actually starts playing.

so my question is: does the call "Open(samplerate, numchannels, bitspersamp, bufferlenms, prebufferms)" actually open the output device, or is the device opened elsewhere?

if it -is- opened on the call to "open", then i've been wasting my time. if not, then maybe there's still hope. =P

either way, i guess there are other ways to fix this problem........

Something interesting to note is that Windows Media Player 7 also cuts off the beginnings of these mp3s. (no, i don't use wmp7, but i was trying everything. =P)
