forums.winamp.com - How to change password etc.

Hi,

I've come back into the forums here and logged in after a long while. My password manage is recommending that I change my password to something stronger, however as a "Junior Member" of the forums, I appear to not be able to change my own password!!!!

For example, I go to "User Control Panel" > "Edit your details" (under "My Profile") and vBulletin shows the following message:

BloodBaz, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
If you are trying to edit your profile, this can only be done once you have made at least 20 posts.

And a "Log Out" & "Home" buttons.

Am I really to believe that I don't have permission to change my own profile, change my own password or close my forum account?

Also, authentication is not done via https which is a bit naughty.

I think there is a minimum post threshold to be met before you can do things like change your password.

Maybe try spam posting in this thread up to 10 posts, then try again.

There was a security breach / hack a few years ago. Everyone had to update their passwords.

Interesting. I would expect that that would be the case if a breach occurred. However, I can't see why I can't change my password if I want to - a password is owned by the user, not the forums; and it protects my profile which I should be able to change also if I wish. This "min 20 post" thing is ridiculous.

I think it's related to spammers putting spam links etc. in their signatures; profile-editing privileges may be lumped together as a single switch (on/off/threshold/etc) in the vB admin CP.

You could of course just PM an active moderator, as post pumping is officially still against regulations.

The 20-post threshold, combined with the 60 second delay is indeed meant to stop spambots from flooding the forums before mods can ban them
