whats your question really? you can make it however you want as long as you fit the components into the spaces. and even then you can easily make them smaller

No. You need an all-purpose graphics program (MS-Paint, Photoshop, The Gimp, Paintshop Pro...) and your abilities to draw and get what you want. *Then* you use the templates as templates.

Many who live deserve death, some who die deserve life - can you give it to them?
Then be not so quick to deal out death in judgement.

Winamp 2 skinning requires no coding knowledge.
Just take a template, change the .wsz ending of the file into .zip, unzip it and you will see all the required bitmaps that you can edit it with your graphics program.
If you put this folder in your skinfolder you can set it to your actual winamp skin and test your work.

Hmm.. why I am telling you this... just follow the links Mr. Jones provided..

If you want to use a program that does all the work for you look here:
http://www.1001winampskins.com/winam..._allround.html

In my opinion it's not worth the effort to use them, all skins they genereate look like sh*t

DJjkblaze: Basically, it's not as easy as you clearly think it should be. =) Having said that, it's not rocket science. Follow the links, and actually read through the instructions given.

Just get into Photoshop/PSP whatever, and give it a go. You can't break anything by trying to make a skin. =)

It's weird how psychologically difficult it is for new people to break into the idea that Winamp2 skinning is just making pictures. I know it took me a while to get it.

http://www.winamp.com/skins/submit/index.jhtml

(you get there by clicking on SKINS at the top of the page, then SUBMIT on the next page)

You have to sign up for a username first - they have a separate database for skins/avs submissions, so your forums username won't work there.

If you don't know what to do,you should try the following thing.

Copy the skinners atlas into another folder. (for example "my skin")
Then go to "my skin"folder and open CBUTTONS.bmp.
Change the color of CBUTTONS.bmp or draw something.
Run winamp and compare each skin. You'll see what is change.
Try the same thing as all BMP files.(Except third party's plug-ins,If you don't use them.
Read the readme.txt for details.)
I believe that you will understand how the parts of the skin works.
Skinning is these repetition.Of course, you should read the readme.txt carefully.
Once you understand a principle, the rest will be dependent on your idea and skill.
Go for it!

[off topic]swampcat has the biggest sig i've ever seen [/off topic]

you can press F5 to update your skin in winamp while you're working on it. just a helpful tip. once i figured that out i was mad at how much time i used to waste changing to antother skin and going back to the one i was working on.

Basically if you think of skeletons or skeletons2.bmp (whichever layout appeals to you) as a completed jigsaw puzzle, and the other bmps as the "pieces", with the animation and clickable layers added in, you'll have the idea. The differing colors on the skeleton outline the "pieces" you have to select the areas on to paste into the separate bmps, if you open skeleton and say, cbuttons bmps side by side you'll get the idea... the winamp engine simply puts the jigasaw pieces together
